- A preview of 'The Sacred Music of the Sikh' 1999. Shot in 1998. This is a fun moment.
You may notice the ease with which I can shift from the chanti to the thaap and vice versa. This is a testimony to Ustad Bhai Arjan Singh Tarangar's teaching acumen. It is funny when the young enthusiasts even want to argue and insist on one or the other style without realizing. I hope this post will awaken quite a few kids on the road....
The importance of the 'pinky' finger is there in both styles, in chaanti usually the hand can look very crooked whereas in the thaap version, the hand is at its most refined state. Very few hands in chaanti are aesthetical; Bhai Mohinder Singh, Ustad Pinky Namdhari and YT are a few gifted ones in recent times.
Very delighted to see' youthful days' of Bhai Sahib Bhai Baldeep Singh ji.
Now a Sikh Philosopher.
I love this. Bhai Sahib is truly a gift to the panth and the duniya with his love and experience in raag kirtan. It is however refreshing to see someone such as Bhai Sahib laughing at his mistakes and being in chardi kala.

Bhai Balbir Singh Ji is an idol..... wat a voice he has... but baldeep singh needs much practise..... the show off in his playing manner is much much higher than actual quality.....

Not to worry. There are all kinds of folks have fun with a keyboard. This recording was the first take without practice and is noted as one of the finest single clip first takes and for the singing and qualitative playing and repertoire. Ask the jewellers who know, not the garbage dealers. 😊

i do think what the following composition was played at most top levels yet i seem to get the impression mr baldeep singh is mocking and disrespecting an idol bhai Balbir singh even though he is related. Although i see the nature of the humorous captions i still think were not needed as they took away abit of dignity and respect even to a keen listner like me so others who have not heard the genius of Bhai Balbir Singh will be left with the thought of a senile elderly person.
There's nothing wrong in playfulness.
