Loving this game and appreciate the way you review / comment. Def helps me develop better thinking processes for the game hearing you describe things from the player perspective instead of a person who has already watched the game and knows the ending.
41:00 I think there's some tactics enabling the Xing Sponsors - with opponent Waza assignment and holding Sun Bear there'd be no way for opponent to back-to-back play Bushbaby and Associate, while JDansp can pay Sun Bear with the Crocodile or Elephant and immediately steal.
The secretary bird is really good for one thing: Releasing. It is the cheapest size 4 animal. You get to keep the Conservation Point it gives you even after release and it will give you max benefit on the release project itself.
At 11:28: we can see onscreen « gain a new association worker (map bonus space) ». What map space bonus? It’s not like we had just built something. I don’t get it?
@@arthursimsa9005 Yeah it was the reward from supporting the Conservation Project. BGA lets you choose the order in which you resolve your actions which is why it appeared on the screen.
Half an hour in and love it so far! I've hit a wall around 300 Elo and have been experimenting with little success. Agree that the Build Size 5 move is very interesting and makes me think a lot about the distribution of animals in the deck... a little like Blackjack card counting - what's the count of good big animals?
212 cards in the deck total, 39 of them size 4 or 5 animals. Good for this game, maybe 10? To be fair though, he ended up drawing 3 very playable animals there (eagle and 2x elephants). I'm a little higher, hovering around 350 ELO, and still can't believe there are expert level players. A win rate that high seems like it should be impossible.
I'm not exactly playing against such high level opponents, but what i found noteworthy in this particular game is that there was this big spot in the upper right corner of the map that allowed for a big enclosure placement if necessary. I'm still very bad at feeling out how fast a game will end, so i think i regularly finish 10-20 points below what i aim for, but threatening double elephants just seems like such a powerful move, which in combination with the CQ the Hyena compound gives doesn't seem unreasonable. The open 4 enclosure was even good for a rhino at the time. Tigers and just more big predators in general seem like a not so bad choice either. So imo there is enough outs and ways to make it work. Really makes me wonder how much digging for those big upside cards matters and if it should be a higher priority on my list. Right now, i guess i am still in the "oh, an elephant, i hope nobody else gets it" phase. In fact right now i'm not even sure how many cards enable reasonably digging in such a way. Might be worth looking into.
@@spacemonkeyentertainment6413 Predators and birds in particular are good at cycling through the deck. I think with either of those combos you have a decent chance at hitting some form of playable large animal.
In game #1, why could the opponent not use 5 X-tokens on his association action and support 2 conservation projects in the same final move? I might have a misunderstanding of the rules.
Yeah that's a rules thing. You can't do the same Association action twice in a turn. You can grab a Partner Zoo and support a project, but you can't grab two Partner Zoos for example. The only way it's possible is with a x2 multiplier or a Determination ability (Silver Lake).
58:35 i dont get why he took africa zoo with this cards in hand. if he tooks asia, he had same discount, but could complete small project with monkeys on next turn
It's an interesting question for him, I can't fully explain it either. My best guess is that it does secure that he gets 2 Africa in case the opponent starts contesting it. And in this case supporting at 2 for 2 CP is more efficient than supporting at 4 for 3 CP. The plan was probably to do Primate Breeding after that (even though the earlier reputation from it would be better).
@@NoWondersTV its an option, but much weaker than primate breeding, his oponent had 0 africa marks and there were ->0 chanses he can contest this. Plus primates gives 2 bonus reputation points

That upgraded sponsors card from the second game did a TON of work. For an upgrade that rarely gets any love, I'm impressed.
Same. Unless I've got something up my sleeve, I often pop the Sponsor

Elephants can swing the game and being ready for them matters
Expensive but so many points when you can afford them

You may want to invest in some cough syrup.
Yeah, apologies everyone for the coughing, I am still a bit sick 😷
I'm halfway through and wondering if you survive.
As an average Ark Nova player that was very interesting, thanks Sam Cobain 😁

The one thing I am struggling to get consistently in is setting income, especially when the cards are treating me like a baby treats a diaper
Income can get really tight when you don't get any extra from sponsor cards. It never feels like you have enough!
This no wonders guy kinda looks like Kurt Cobain.
That's a first for me 😂

Elo is actually a sir name, not an acronym.
Right, I have been writing and pronouncing it incorrectly for a while now. I'll make a concerted effort to fix that. Thanks!

I know, I know. This one was rough because I was sick at the time. I have 15 more replay analyses that are cough-free though!
