if you press start button,”wye contactor energize same time with omron timer on delay after 5 seconds, wye de energize and delta contactor energize.
Wye connection is soft start the motor to prevent over current, and not damage the belt,coupling shaft, keyway, pully.

I believe soft startearnlers have removed the need for this configuration, but important to learn in case you have to repair.
we some startvalve motors we use soft start seimens and allenbradly. instead wye delta connection. but better you must know and learn how to connect specially for the beginners.
this motor control wye delta connection is very important to learn mostly used on big motors. if you know the connection you know how to troubleshoot and install or connect.
No VFD'S have replaced them. They save an enormous amount if power whenever they are running at less then full speed. We had hundreds if VFD'S from 2 to 1,759 HP. All of the air a handlers ( 50 to 150 HP & Return air fans ( 20 to 125 HP ) were able to run at only 50 to 60% of full speed at nights & weekends thus only using maybe a third amount of a full speed motor.

Professor paki gawa ng video ng overhead cranes na gamit ang VFD . Paki explain ng circuit diagrams at pag program ng VFD. Salamat .
Makakawa ako ng video tutorials nyan wiring installation pero wala VFD . Hindi pwedeng lagyan ng vfd drive ang hoist or crane. Ibat ibat company pinang galingan ko walang may variable drive ang hoist.
Not safe with vfd drive ang crae or hoist.

Are 8 and 5 the normally closed timer connections?

Yes you’re right,” terminal 8 and 5 is normally cloes and terminal 8 and 6 is normally open.
Many thanks Master for the excellent presentation. How is the time delay calculated in a Star-Delta set up? What I am trying to say is that how did you come up with 5 seconds? Why didn’t you select 7 sec for example.
That is standard mostly used is 4seconds to 5 seconds only and the connection is always like that.
