  • In this video I hive information about the sausage tree, a very unusual tree from tropical Africa. I explain whether you can eat the fruit and even have a go at propagating the sausage tree from seed.

    How can you plant a sausage tree as a shade tree? If you go underneath for shade and a sausage fruit falls on your head you will be lucky to survive.

    nice vid! can we have an update on the coconut or if its dead how about trying again with more protection this time?

      Thanks Aniik :)
      Yes the coconut does in a record freeze 2 years ago. I will try again but I’m waiting for my other trees to grow and provide some additional protection (and yes I’m much better at the cold protection now too). I might do it next spring.

    How did you make out with the sausage tree seeds, did they germinated?

    • @PracticalPrimate
      @PracticalPrimate  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep :) I showed them in a later video but from memory was near 100% germination rate.

      Found it, I only showed them when they first germinated (but they kept growing well before I gave them away). Right at the end of - Spring Garden Update th-cam.com/video/yPCByTwqruE/w-d-xo.html

    Were your plantings successful?

      Hi Carol. Yes they were an easy tree to germinate. I show them at the end of one of the later vids but they just look like sausage tree seedlings :) I gave the seedlings away locally as I didn’t actually want to grow them here (limited space).

      @@PracticalPrimate Thank you so much. We have a Seed Co-Op in our community just started and all of us have a glut of these sausages... half of us have got cuts and bruises trying to get the seeds out. Sausages are pretty dry so I am not sure now if they will work judging by the moisture in yours. Do you think it will matter?

    • @PracticalPrimate
      @PracticalPrimate  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would think so Carol but I only tried this once so cannot say for sure. Please let me know how you go!
