      Gas is well priced, highway tolls are really really high in Japan, its crazy

    • @ousi00
      @ousi00 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Toll and gas are not cheap... Last time I drove for 5 days from Tokyo to Nagoya and back (I actually went to Izu, crossed Ise wan). The toll rack up to close to 500USD, as I gun for private highway mostly and just don't care about price vs time.

    • @skystink
      @skystink 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In case this is still of interest one year later: Gas as per today is 135-142 Yen per liter regular. Toll fee depends highly on the area. Bridges are usually more expensive (e.g. from Kobe zu Shikoku), Ishikawa and tohoku was rather cheap. Car rental in Japan is not that special as anywhere else, so just make a sample quotation at rentalcars com

    trains are good for those who dont have driver's license even here in calgary it will make you think twice of getting a car if your single due to the cost of car insurance.

  • @dededengo32
    @dededengo32 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    8:25 4880 yen is for toll fees.. assuming the rental fee is 7000 up plus gas (you have to fill before returning) maybe 3000 yen, the total may be about 15000 yen.
    By train from Shinjuku to Hakone is about 4600 yen round trip. if you are going with a group of more than 4 people, it is worth.
    For car rental, jazz type compact car, 7000 yen for 12 hours.
    nissan-rentacar.com/english/vehicles-rates/
    Basically, the toll fees between A to B is about the same as the quickest train route fare between A to B.

    • @skystink
      @skystink 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I remember there are no toll fees at Izu. So you can go by train to Atami or Namazu and pickup car there. Did that, loved it.

    never will I ever rent a car in Tokyo or anywhere close. If you haven't spent few years in Japan you have a very good chance to get lost, get stuck in traffic, waste a lot of time, miss stuff, and instead of relaxing and enjoying trains and views - driving. Shikoku, Kyushu, maybe Hokkaido, Okinawa for sure, where trains are not covering most of the area and you need a lot of buses, that would be reasonable.

    • @skystink
      @skystink 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      nah it is not that bad. Nowadays most cars have GPS navigation and if not you likely have google maps or similar on your phone. So getting lost is not a thing anymore. I agree with you that Tokyo is better by public transport (unless you are a small group of people that have difficulties to walk etc.).

    You sure you always want to drive because the train on some occasions is kinda better then driving on the train you can do whatever you need and pick where you wanna sit and don’t trick people into thinking trains are useless because then they might stop using it resulting in train drivers running out of money and payments

    • @PaolofromTOKYO

      If you're comfortable with your driving skills and have specific places you want to go, I definitely recommend it. Just as long as you have an international drivers license you can rent a car. If you're not confident, then train would be fine as you can get to most of the standard tourist destinations.

    I did travel Japan by car. I'm a bit torn if it was a good deal. The gas cost was about right but the tolls cost were considerable. One intangible is parking which was $20 for 4 days in Kyoto (we stayed at a house near a small shrine) but the big cost was downtown Hiroshima to the point parking cost just as much as the hostel itself. Another cost was taking extra toll roads to get to a particular hotel. (travel sites are not strong on hotels off road). An thing to consider is just how much driving adds to fatigue and the which you touched on a little bit.

      EdgeRunner i think it’s pretty unfair to judge by hours. You should use kilometer. I look it up and it’s about 122km from Tokyo to Izu. That’s not somewhere really far but not close either. For the same km in my country it’ll take 3.5 hours by taking the normal road and about 1.5 hours if I take the highway. Cutting down the travel time doesn’t change the fact how many kilometers we need to drive

      There is a company called Omoren and you can rent skylines, silvias, supras etc but prepare to pay a premium for them, especially R34 GTRs. Some branches also have Audi R8s and Lamborghini Gallardos if you're really keen.

      Hey Abbie Susanto, Thanks for watching. I mainly use a Canon 80d ( amzn.to/2jPQbWU ) with the kit lens or wide angle lens (amzn.to/2iV06eR). In some of the shots though, I used my GoPro Hero 5 or DJI Mavic Pro Drone ( amzn.to/2mM6LrH ). For a complete list, feel free to check the video description. I hope that helps and hope to talk to you again.

      what i mean is how you can make this vlog. like the position of the gopro even you already go inside the car but the gopro still recording outside the car. or you coming back to grab the gopro :) thanks

      Hey Abbie, Yes - that is exactly what I do! haha. having a gorilla tripod helps to get the right angles. See my gear list in the comment section for the exact make/model.

    Yeah I would not drive in Japan, let alone Tokyo. I am from germany and we drive on the right side of the road. Once I visited Scotland and on the day we arrived there was a durby in Edinburgh, it was night time and it was raining like hell. Right at the airport there was a three-laned round about. That was pretty difficult for a start :D
