🌺 ABOUT US
Aloha! We are a worldschooling family with three young kids. Our home base is the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii. We've been living a nomadic lifestyle for the past 15 years. We hope to inspire you to begin your own quest!
Just got back from Japan. Google maps and google translate were wonderful. Google translate allowed us to read signs, food ingredients, menus, and to converse with friends from Japan who only spoke Japanese. Made our trip that much more enjoyable!
Technology has made visiting and living in Japan much easier.
It sure has! I remember 30 years ago when I had a pad with a lot of phrases written on it.
bought a pixel pro just for the verbal translation app , it is a godsend for traveling overseas where english is not frequently spoken!
very informative. Straight to the point without chit-chatting, which I really LOVE. Keep up the good work.
you're single-handedly carrying my entire trip to japan. thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Very useful and straightforward information. Thank you.
thank you for information. Just come back from Japan , what a wonderful trip. There were a lot of tourists , by following your information, everything were so fine. Thank you for your work.
These updates are wonderful. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing all the great information. I applaud your dedication.
Great video Kensho. Informative but quick. Thank you for your opines.
Thank you so much for this great, informative video 🫶
Great job! Short and to the point….no preamble. Thanks!🌸
Thanks for the info! Going to Japan with the family in June (osaka/kyoto/Tokyo) and this may help us quite a bit.
Thank you NOW!! This vlog is soooo helpful!!!
Awesome video! This help out so much especially since im going in september! 🙏
Great vlog. The detail is helpful
Thanks. Your contents are helpful
Thank you. I just installed every app you recommended. 😊
Always very informative videos thank you
You’re welcome!
Great info..Thanks..
Thank you very much. This was great information - straight and to the point. We will be going to Yokohama in May. We will also be taking a cruise from here. I learn something new every time I watch your videos.
1:00 we are also taking a cruise in May from Yokohama.
This video was very helpful will be visiting Tokyo in July
This is great! I just moved to Sapporo, and your video is very helpful. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Good information, going to Japan soon.
Great info, thank you! What a great presentation of information! you are an excellent TH-camr!!!
Wow, thank you!
This is gold! Thank you so much!
You’re welcome! Glad it was helpful.
Just got back from Japan. Thank you so much for telling us about the Go app. We used it in Tokyo and Hiroshima in particular because our hotel was pretty far from everything. It was so easy to use and we got taxis within minutes of our requests. It made our trip that much more enjoyable and stress free. 👍❤️
Hi! When I tried registering with Go app once I was already in Japan, it requires us to register with a Japanese simcard and I didn’t have any because I was just using roaming data with my local Philippine sim. When you registered with the Go app, did you use a Japanese sim?
great advice! Nice video, thank you so much. But next time let me see the app icon for a moment.
Great rapid fire love it!
Thank you for all of this videos !!! We get to Japan tomorrow ! Can’t wait to put them in practice ❤
Have a wonderful time in Japan!
@@KenshoQuest WE DID !! We had a great 25 day trip and thanks to your videos we were some kind of japan wizards, thank you for all of this information and hope you and your family are happy and well

I ve travlled to Japan multiple times, and as a frequent traveler to Japan, I must say all those apps that you featured in your video is SPOT ON! Great sharing 👍🏻.
Great to hear!
Useful Information. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Just got back from Japan and we used a digital IC card like you suggested. It was wonderful! So easy to use and recharge. Thank you again!
Wonderful!
Super helpful, thanks!
You're welcome!
So helpful! Thank you. Regarding transit balance on my IC card, I had gotten in the habit of looking down at the turnstile to look at the displayed balance. It did not slow me down but in no way was I as fast getting through the turnstile as everybody else.
Yes, that's a convenient way to check the balance on your IC card! Sometimes we're in a hurry and forget to check, or the screen doesn't display correctly, so it's nice to have another method.
Thanks for info brother!
You bet!
Very helpful video! Thank you!!
Im in Japan right now and used Uber quite a lot. It appears to be linked to the local taxi service much like how you described Go.
I wanted to say thank you for helping me choose. In my opinion, the right wifi router. Very informative channel without the fluff. Thank you.
Great to hear! Thank you!
This video is brilliant.
I will use the Go app next time! I was in disbelief when Google would give me transit directions in Tokyo for a 50 minute journey and driving was only 20 minutes. I didn't immediately realize that I was looking at a 10 minute walk, 30 minute train and another 10 minute walk so I doubted it could be so quick to drive in Tokyo. And I suspect Google wasn't accounting for all the time getting in and out of the stations and finding platforms. I figured Uber would just add a fee to the cost of the taxi so I didn't want to use that app. Getting a price estimate would have made for informed choices too. Would have used trains most of the time anyway, but it's nice to have options.
👍👍 for digital Suica, it was awesome.
very helpful - thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank u for sharing! Preparing with local apps before embarking on a journey aids in discovering popular spots while employing web translation tools such as Immersive Translate enhances comprehension wherever your travels take you, regardless of the destination.

You're welcome!
just the video i need
Your videos are really useful, thank you so much!! One question- can the whole family use the Digital IC card with the same phone?
No, each person needs to have their own separate IC card to use it for transportation. You need to tap your card when entering an automatic ticket gate and tap it again when exiting that train line. Each person needs their own card, so the system can keep track of where you enter and where you exit. 🌸 Heidi
The final boss of any newbie in Japan, the AC remote!
I saw the Go Taxis be never used them. If I go a rural area and am not renting a car, I'll do that. I prefer to spend my money having my luggage transported. Since I mostly traveled by air this time due to the cost increase of the rail pass, it was great.
Great tips! One question about the digital IC card option: can it be used for several people (kids and parent) or only for one person each time? Thank you
Hi. To use for public transportation each individual person must have their own separate IC card. If your children are between the ages of 6-11 years old, they can get a physical Child SUICA card to pay the child fare, which is usually half the adult fare. Here's how: th-cam.com/video/BbvQurJdOnc/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for the video! Does digital IC card expires?
Hi, great question. The physical regular IC cards expire in 10 years. But we have not found any information regarding the digital versions. They may not currently have any expiration date.
I found the GO not helpful, the driver still asked me where I wanted to go, using the app ads a 400¥ fee when I can do the same flagging a taxi down. The transit apps suck , even when you pay a fee. Google does a decent job translating and navigating. Suica card on iOS was very handy.
The data we need, when we need it. Thank you!
Thanks for that video!
Other than transportation, what stores and uses can you use an IC card?
Many places accept IC cards for payment. We don't have a full list of stores, but 7-Eleven is one. Also some luggage lockers, vending machines, fast food restaurants, and taxis. There will be a sign if the business accepts payment by IC card. 🌸 Heidi
@@KenshoQuest thanx! I needed to know how to spend it if I put too much money on the card.
@@omegawynter My strategy is to load 1,000-2,000 Yen on the card at a time, so it doesn’t have a huge balance. It’s easy to top it up as needed.
Hello again! For the Go Taxi, do we need to have car seats/boosters for children? Our kiddos range from 3-9 years of age. Thank you so much for all the time you put in for making useful and informative videos!
Hi. Taxis are exempt from car seat laws in Japan, so you don't need to bring car seats / boosters into taxis. We bring along our car seat to use if we rent a car. 🌸 Heidi
ECBO definitely one of the best ever made for tourist
Hii Kensho. Thankyou for all your video. Very helpfull. May I ask about Go Taxi. If i booked from nagoya station to my bnb. Is it okay with the regular taxi that standby at the nagoya station if I using taxi go?
Hi, There usually will be Go Taxis around the station but only if they are the one who accepted the job. Otherwise, you can just line up at the taxi queue and show the location of your bnb to the driver from your phone. If you choose this option, it is best to have the addresss in Japanese.
I can't wait to try the translator on s24 ultra when I go back
THANK YOU GOAT
I'm in Japan now, thanks for the chanal it helped a lot!
This guy is good. Wish I found this before my trip to Japan. BTW does the taxi go app let's you call taxi with wheelchair access? Or are there even any apps that can be used to call a wheelchair accessible vehicle?
Hi, thanks :). I just checked and the app let's you choose between a regular taxi and one with sliding doors which is larger. I have seen a user with a wheelchair get into this vehicle and the driver placed the wheelchair in the hatch.
Of note, the app is adding new features to their reservation tab. Currently, you can reserve one to the airport and in some areas you can reserve a van, like a Toyota Alphard which is large and possibly wheelchair accessible.
Thanks for the details and I am closely following your videos for my upcoming trip to Japan. I have one question on digital IC cards. In India apple wallet/pay is not supported. If I come to Japan, can I use digital IC cards on my mobile. i.e. Will the apple pay/wallet will be enabled on my mobile once I reach Japan region?
Hi, unfortunately, we do not know the answer to your question. You might try a VPN to see if it will work. If it does not, then your phone might have the feature pre-disabled.
Thank you for your information. And let me know which English speaking tour guides app or website is better. 5:12
Nice video and thanks for the infos!
Questions:
Is "Japan Train Card Balance" better than "Suica and IC Card reader" (Suicakeibo)?
"NHK World" or "Yurekuru Call" for emergency notifications?
Hi, it looks like you have some good alternatives.
I have tried both card readers and maybe it's a personal preference but I prefer Japan Train Card Balance.
For emergency notifications, we haven't tried Yurekuru Call. We've been using NHK and are happy with it and it's also recommended by the japanese government and the US Embassy.
Great content as usual.
Question...
Does Go taxi work well in Kyoto?
We assume so. We've used GO Taxi in Hokkaido and Tokyo so far. I've also tested Kyoto ( while in Tokyo ) and GO Taxi was showing drivers in the area, so it is available, we just don't know how well.
Do you travel to South Korea? I’m planning to visit SK next fall season hoping for some tips and maybe a Klook discount too☺️
Not yet, but we’d love to travel to South Korea sometime! Our coupon KENSHOQUEST might work on some activities.
Thank you for sharing the tips on Japan. Very helpful!
I’ve downloaded the Gotaxi using my mobile to register. I will use esim when I’m in Japan. Just wondering how does the taxi driver contact/ring me?
Hi, once you have the app fully installed and you have internet via your eSIM, your driver will contact you via the app. You will get a notification that a driver has accepted your request and it will provide an arrival time along with their license plate and other info. In general, it works very similar to ride sharing apps like Uber. You can choose to add your phone number for the driver if you want, but they will only ring you if necessary, such as, they can't find you. I hope this helps.
Thank you so much for providing useful information. I have been watching your videos the last few days. My fiance and I will be in Japan in two days….gonna see the cherry blossoms :) cheers from Canada. Thank you again.
You'll be coming at a good time as most, atleast in the Tokyo area are yet to be in full bloom. Have a great trip!
Super helpful video, thank you! Quick question abotu Go taxi app... We are a family of 5 (3 kids aged between 9 and 15), travelling to Japan for first time next month. Can we request larger taxi / people carrier type vehicle via the app, or will we need 2 cars? Not sure how common larger taxis are, if it would mean longer wait? Thank you!
Hi, currently you can reserve multiple Go Taxis at once. So if your party is too large you can split between two vehicles. They are also currently introducing the ability to reserver a 6 seater van option. I have not seen it yet but I do believe it is available in some areas. Though, as I mentioned, you will need to reserve this larger vehicle in advance. Larger taxis are certainly less common. You can also ask your hotel to arrange a larger vehicle which might be the easiest method.
Great tips. Thanks. For the go taxi how much luggage was a lot out of interest?
Hi, we rented the taxi with the sliding door, which has more room that the regular taxis. You can select the sliding door taxi in the App. We had one large suitcase and three carryon size as well as 5 backpacks for our family of 5.
@@KenshoQuest good to know, 7 of us will be visiting Japan in May, and, we will aim to use public transport normally but prefer not to use public transport with so much luggage. Tried setting up Go-Cab but its rejecting my AU credit card. So the old "stick your hand out and wave at taxis" will have to do 😅
i blame you for not releasing this 2 weeks or a month early >.<

@@KenshoQuestdo you have a video about driving in japan as a foreigner? i'm a canadian and i want to try the mario kart in tokyo
Thank you for the useful tips! Your previous vids were super helpful too. Btw, We used the navi time app since we purchased the arch pass, we did not have any problems at all until we went to Yokohama. The app clearly showed that the pass can still be used but the lady in charge at the south gate did not let us go thru. So it’s either the app is not that 100% accurate? - which I doubt. Anyway, we chose to pay thru card since it was for 660 ¥ each & she insisted that we pay only thru cash and We were Not given a receipt. Highly unusual for an urbanized station.
Sorry that happened. I didn’t think Yokohama was covered by the Hokuriku Arch Pass, only parts of Tokyo. I see how the NaviTime app is showing it as included. There are bound to be some errors.
Great info, Thanks for sharing. I am traveling with the family in June 2024 and definitely will use these apps.
I really love the channel and it's helped a lot with most of my Japan travel questions. I do have one more I can't seem to find a consistent answer for, however, and that is where is the best place to convert USD to JPY? I have seen many sources say local banks/credit unions, and many more saying not to even bother until I arrive in Japan, and I'm hearing 7/11 ATMs are the way to go. I would definitely like to have some yen when I arrive, just in case.
If you’d like to bring some Yen with you, you can purchase it at your bank before leaving for Japan. We like to take money out of the ATM as soon as we arrive at the airport in Japan. We also use ATMs at 7-Eleven. And we often pay for food, items, and taxis by credit card. Here’s our video that covers this topic:

@KenshoQuest Thanks again for all your helpful videos. You're the best channel I've seen for Japan travel information. Another question though: I am currently in Tokyo, and I'm on a data only esim. How can I use Go Taxi with data only if they have to send SMS alerts and require voice calls? I may have to forego the app, but what are some alternatives if I need a cab? Any information would be very helpful. ありがとうございます!
@@FluffyBunny9002 You need to receive an SMS to your actual phone number to set up the GO Taxi app. After that, we've been able to track when the taxi is arriving using the app, and haven't needed to receive additional text messages.
@@FluffyBunny9002 Hi, if you don't have access to your home phone SMS then you might try Uber if you have it installed already. They are in Tokyo, just not widely available. Or you can try to flag down a taxi. If they have the red sign lit up, then the taxi is available, green or any other color means not available. Sorry, I don't have better options for your. Good luck!
@@KenshoQuest I appreciate the help. I found a way to make it work last night, but not with the Go App. It's not too hard to get a taxi as it turns out.
Great informative video, as always... thanks!
May i check if there is GO TAXI service in Osaka and if we can choose the type of taxi? There are 4 of us and with 2 large luggage and planning to try this from our hotel in dotonburi area to shin osaka station to take the shinkansen train to Tokyo. Thanks again!
Hi, yes, GO Taxi is available in Osaka. However, some areas of Dotonbori have a restriction of when GO is available. Probably due to the traffic. Worst case, you would have to meet the driver a couple of blocks outside of the restricted area. As for type of vehicle, it depends on the area. But usually you can choose between a standard taxi and one with a sliding door. Always choose the sliding door taxi if you have luggage since it can fit more. I think it would be sufficient for your two large suitcases. It's the black taxi in the video with Tokyo Station behind it.
@@KenshoQuest thanks alot for your clear explanation, appreciate lots.
Thank you for this. Does Go Taxi offer bigger cars that can accommodate 11 people with luggage? If not, what hotel-to-hotel transfer would you recommend?
HI, currently they do not, but they are always adding new features. For now, when we have larger groups we ask the hotel to call for a larger taxi. Sometimes passenger vans are available. But for your group of 11 you may need two vehicles.
@@KenshoQuestThank you
Hey ! Thanks for the video !
I want to use taxi go for our next trip our next trip but we Travel with a on year old and a four year old. So we will need two car Seat... Do some driver are equiped for this ? Is this an option we Can chose on the app ?
Thanks ☀️
Hi, Go Taxi's do not come with child car seats, but they are child seat ready. We have had no issues with this. You can also choose to request a sliding door taxi within the app which is a roomier taxi and also has a little more luggage space. I hope this helps!
Does TaxiGo allow you to choose type of vehicle?
I am planning to travel from New Chitose Airport to Tomamu Resort this summer not sure if I should get private car or use TaxiGo as we have 9 persons.
Hi, there are currently a couple of choices: regular and sliding door. The sliding door taxi is a little larger allowing for more luggage. For 9 people you will need at least 2 taxis which we often do but for your case you may prefer a private taxi.
Hello great videos, Can you explain further more about using Apple wallet with suica card? I have my credit card in my Apple Wallet but in other of your video saw it will charge me as cash withdrawal? Thank you
It depends upon your credit card how it will be treated when you top up a digital SUICA card. It's best to call your credit card provider to double check. Chase told us that it would be treated as a cash advance. Instead, I'm now using an Apple Card to charge my digital IC card, and it just counts as a regular purchase. 🌸 Heidi
how to hire a travel host or live in the house of the travel host for a week in japan?
Im just curious but would you guys have an app or method for reserving restaurants ahead of arriving? I know some places are hard to get into if you just show up. Thanks for your help with everything else you guys are amazing.
Hi, you can use the Tabelog app, it allows reservations with some restaurants. However, you might have some translation issues. But it is the defacto restaurant app in Japan. You might also be required to have a Japanese phone number to make a reservation with some restaurants. You can learn about that here: th-cam.com/video/aQU42wIbDtU/w-d-xo.html
@KenshoQuest awesome thank you guys some much
Great video! Regarding the digital IC cards, what if you have kids who don't have their own phones yet? Can I use my IC card for them also -- can you swipe 2 people for each train ticket? I am stuck because our flight arrives Haneda at 04:30 so will not be able to purchase tourist card as the ticket offices will be closed.
Hi. Sorry, you can’t share an IC card for transportation. Each person needs to tap in and tap out. I would buy your kids paper tickets to get from the airport. Then the next day you could go to Tokyo Station, or any JR station, and get actual physical child SUICA cards. Children ages 6-11 are charged half as much as adults for transportation. Since the child cards are registered with their name, they are still available. Make sure to bring their passport to show their age. Here’s our video on how to get a child SUICA card:

Anyone know how well T Mobile works for your iphone to get data?
i am from a country where apple pay isn’t supported. will i be able to use digital ic card when i arrived in japan?
Hi, sorry about this but currently we have not come across a solution for users where Apple Pay isn't supported. Hopefully, someone else can chime in.
Hi, I have been following your channel for a while now and really like it!!! I do have a couple of questions I cant seem to get to the bottom of in terms of passes. I want to buy a JR West pass and start to reserve my shinkanzen seats before I arrive in Japan. I can clearly buy it online prior, and I can clearly reserve tickets online, but I cant seem to work out how you use the pass when reserving online. I wonder if its not possible? The website says you can but wondering if you have any tips. The concern is missing seats for our large group of 6 and disrupting our travel plans. Also in terms of digital IC, what do you do with children who dont have a phone? Should all the adults just use apple wallet and the kids use a physical card? Thank for your help!!
Hi, thanks for watching :)
Let me try to answer your questions.
First, which JR West pass are you interested in?
Now, if I understand your first question correctly the reason why you cannot see options to use a JR West pass is because you haven't actually purchased one yet. Once you have a pass and are logged in, you will have an option to use the pass and reserved seats using your pass. Then you won't see the option where it wants to charge you. Instead, you will be able to reserve at no cost using your pass.
Regarding children, yes a physical IC card is best. If they are between the ages of 6 - 11 then you can purchase a child SUICA card at the JR Office. This will save 50% off on most trips. Here is a video on the process: th-cam.com/video/BbvQurJdOnc/w-d-xo.html
I hope this helps!
Brilliant advice and thankyou! I'd hoped this maybe the possibility in terms of reserving seats as part of the pass purchase. I'm looking at couple of options in this space to cover off Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, Himieji and either Setouchi area pass or the Kansai Hiroshima pass look really suitable if you dont plan to go north of Kyoto. Then it just boils down to 5 or 7 day options on them. The plan is Kyoto>Hiroshima>Miyajima>Himijie, Oasaka, Airport and the passes look great all the Shincazens that are needed - although none of them cover the Kyoto to Osaka leg, but you can pay the difference it seems between an express and Shinkanzen if you want. @@KenshoQuest
So what am I doing having an Android phone? Are the physical cards Welcome Suica or Pasmo Passport (long-term) cards also out of stock?
Currently you can get the physical Welcome SUICA or PASMO Passport at Haneda Airport, or jus the PASMO Passport at Narita Airport.
hi question can u demonstrate suica card how to download on iphone its all in Japanese. not in english how to use app will help many thank u ❤
Hi. Instead of downloading the SUICA app from the app store, open Apple Wallet on your phone. Click "+" in the upper right hand corner. Click "Transit Card" and under "Japan" choose "Suica". (This is shown quickly in the video.) When I added it this way it works.
public transport is ... good? i mean when there IS public transport it might be reliable but i got more than one example where i wanted to go to a more rural area, where a train took like 4-5 hours and where a car takes 1.
For the Go taxi I don't plan to have a Japanese Sim Card when I arrive . Can I put U.S number just to register ? and complete registration in Japan (if need be) . I won't be doing roaming as well on my US number and just depend on Esim data connection.
Yes. Once we arrived in Japan I was able to complete the registration using my USA +1 phone number. 🌸 Heidi
Could the iPhone, with the digital IC card installed, pay the transit tickets for two people including myself? Thank you in advance.
No. Each person needs to have their own IC card to pay for transportation. You need to tap in when entering the automatic ticket gate and tap out when leaving the train line. Each person needs a separate IC card so the system can track where they enter and where they exit. 🌸 Heidi
@@KenshoQuest Thank you very much. You are serious youtubers. Like your posts.
Can multiple users share a suica? We have androids and only one of them has Felica support
Not if you use the SUICA card for transportation. Each person must have their own card to be able to tap in and tap out of the automatic ticket gates. I recommend getting one physical Welcome SUICA.
For the Go App, do you need a local number for setup? So you basically map it to Credit Card and select destination from your location? Thanks
Hi. Once we were physically in Japan I was able to register the GO app using my USA +1 phone number. Then I entered my credit card number. We didn’t need a local Japanese phone number. And yes, you can select pick up from your current location and enter your destination. It doesn’t allow pick up from a marked taxi stand, though. 🌸 Heidi
@KenshoQuest Thank you. We don't know any Japanese and this app seems very helpful. We did preliminary install, but the remaining setup needs to be completed when we are in Japan. Hoping to get things prepared before hand. Helpful video.
@KenshoQuest Also, will they charge extra for luggage? The cars should generally fit right? Or do we need to make a special request for taxis with luggage? Thanks.
There is a trunk with space for luggage, no extra charge. @@mogtrader8
@@KenshoQuest thanks. great!!
Can I use my digital IC card for more than 1 person? I have kids and I’d like to know if I need to purchase each of them a physical card… thanks
Hi, sorry but no. The reason is each person needs to both tap in and tap out of each gate. If your kids are over the age of 6 then yes, they need their own individual cards. Children between the ages of 6-11 can get a child Suica, you can purchase these directly from the JR Ticket office. They get 50% off. More info here: th-cam.com/video/BbvQurJdOnc/w-d-xo.html

Uber is possible, they just aren't as widely available throughout Japan as GO.
about the IC card, is it only for Iphone user only?
Hi, digital IC card is for iPhone only. You can still purchase a physical IC card.
Thank you fir the video. I have the app, but after I out in my (American) phone number, they send me a 4 digit identification code, and I dont see where that is. Can you tell me to look under "messages"? I'm not getting the cold--or am having trouble looking to where it is.
We received it as a SMS text message.
I hope the physicsl suica cards are still not hard to get. Plan to get for a trip next one and don't have an iphone for the digital one.
multiple people have told use they were able to get the regular Suica at Narita Airport in the past month. However, in Tokyo, I have asked at a few locations including Tokyo Station and they do not have them available. You can still get the Welcome Suica or Pasmo Passport.
hi there I hope this message finds you well, just wanted to know if you're traveling as a family of four can you have four individual suica cards on your cell phone or must each individual have an app on their phones. kind regards, yusri.
Hi. Each individual person needs to have their own separate IC card. Either a digital one on their phone or a physical plastic card.
@@KenshoQuest thanks you for getting back to me so soon. the information is much appreciated. once again thanks.
😊😊😊😊😊
hey can you tell me which is the best place to exchange japanese yen in tokyo.i'm heading there soon so i wanna know which place is good to exchange for japan yen.thank
Large train stations such as Tokyo Station have currency exchange counters. We just use ATMs to withdraw Yen, rather than exchanging.
Could we use the Go taxi app using data SIM or data e-Sim cards? It seems that the Go taxi app needs a Japanese phone number during the registration process.
Any idea how to get round this?
Thanks a lot.
Hi. A data SIM is not enough. You will need to receive an SMS text message during the set up process. I used my USA cell phone number that I have through GoogleFi. The app didn’t send any more text messages after the initial set up. 🌸 Heidi
