I find it really hard to tune into my body because it exacerbates me noticing of the pain and makes me distressed and overwhelmed. How do I move past this to engage with this meditation?

With mindfulness practice, many have found that it actually helps to focus on the pain rather than trying to avoid it. To notice it and practice acceptance, allowing yourself to experience it rather than fighting it, describe it in factual, non-judgmental terms, etc... it sounds counterintuitive, but for some, it can actually lessen the perceived experience of pain severity. I have both seen this in my former practice as a therapist and experience it myself during migraine attacks. Acceptance-based mindfulness practice, even with pain... look into it, and best of luck to you! May you find relief.

It's a mental training to work on pain, not to override it, so as every beginning it's hard to get into pain and normalizing it to our neurological system so as we don't not react to it (depression, anxiety, etc.) but to act on it, (getting in basic selfcare mesuares, trying to enjoy what we can do, according to your conditions, etc.) and also to learn how to be relaxed despite the pain... wich is a good experience since it's hard to experience pain and not being stressed (F. example muscle contractures and chronic tiredness) and it's hard to enjoy what nevertheless life brings us. I think it's helpfull when it's interpretated from this perspective perspective

      Thank you so much.
The rhythm was slow and peaceful. I have difficulty staying awake during meditation. Kept my eyes open this time. Allowed a softened gaze. The timing was slow enough to allow concentration on the breath while at the same time to follow the imagery and move from one area of the body to another. Very well done sir.
For a brief period of time the pain level moved from a 6 to a three.
This technique has been analyzed to promote an effect that I have never before encountered.
      Thank you so very much.

Sounds like he's manipulating me to unwittingly activate a magical doomsday device but hey, it works. 9/10, would be the Chosen One again.
