Awesome stuff Faydz... Big Up! Tunes & scratching on point (as always) but the icing on the cake was seeing video footage of so many legends & underground artists alike. Old school Hip Hop for life... Old school UK Hip Hop for life!!!
Thanks, nice to see some of those talented artists from back in the day, respect to them, thanks to anyone who supported and continues to support the Music of Life family, other UK artists and many thanks for the nice mash up :)
got some hijack records off an older when I was about 16 when I started DJ'ing. everyone else in the area was playing happy hardcore and that. theres me mixing this into 36 chambers, pitched right up :D first prodigy record as well.
Nice one Glyn! Totally agree with you there mate, I can't even listen to any of today's commercial rubbish, there's still some great underground acts about though. Can't beat all the old 80's / early 90's stuff! :)
I used to love hijak and silver bullet it was weird because I loved it more for the breaks and scratching that's when I knew I wanted to be a dj also the film juice . And alot of pirate radio djs who scratched . Anyway wicked scratching . I've got to put a mix on youtube asap . Peace faydz
Excellent stuff yet again Faydz: your skills are almost unparalleled!! Love the hip hop of yesteryear myself!! Stuff of today is generally a right load of old shite IMO, then again I'm getting on abit, nearly 40 :(
Tim Westwood seems to have forgotton about this era and has a 'selective' memory.....He seems to be very up and in with the Grime and Drill artists nowadays though. Funny that.
Just shared this on one of Mc Dukes posts on FB where he's talking about some young modern 'clueless' journalist has apparently said that UK Hip Hop has only just started to get exposure and emerged thanks to the mainstream popularity of Grime artists. *huge sigh* You can imagine the uproar thats caused with alot of us older lot. If it wasn't for this era of UK Hip hop straight up there would be no breakbeat hardcore,no jungle/DnB,no UKG,no Grime or other sub genres that involve breaks or Mc's. UK Hip Hop lies right at the roots of ALL these British based genres. If your gonna document or report something or chat history then you have to speak the TRUTH otherwise don't even bother. Seems like some wanna twist it,forget or fail to acknowledge the REAL old school uk heads who were there at the start and totally rewrite the history. Those who were really there know the TRUTH and we don't need twats like Westwood to misinform people too coz his memory seems to be somewhat blurred too. Probably old age maybe seeing as he's hit the big 60 now! Lol Respect Steve. Cracking little video and mix respecting the UK Hip Hop roots. Sure I'll see you out in old skool rave land soon matey. Peace. Marky
Fucken Tim Westwood. Uk’s unsung hero of brit hip hop. Well, him and ali-G......he need s to return to his roots imho (Tim, not Ali, just for the record ;)
Hey Jake, in the early days ‘82-85 most of us didn’t know any better. We just copied what the USA guys did. When I listen back to some of my old stuff I cringe as well Lol! Proud to say I had a cockney style I’d drop every now and then. We had a US, a Yardie and me, the Cockney in our crew.
Lockdown in full effect takes me back... Killed it man fucking killed it.............
when uk hip hop had it's own sound.. britcore classics
Wow amazing mix. Best days of music ever.
Thank you! :)
