I’ll never forget hearing this for the time blaring from my sister’s room. When she would leave, I’d sneak in her room to play the record over and over. The meld of that woman singing, the conga drums, the hard beat, the random samples, their rhyme…it is a journey into sound.
listened to it, when it came out. my buddy had a knack for picking albums. Partied in the northwoods to this album great at 2am in the middle of nowhere.
80s hip hop was such a vibe. Soooo creative because it was the beginning. I wasn't even born until the 90's but I'm proud of these "kids" (who are the same age as my parents!) for doing so much with so little. Their legacy is hip hop from every generation until now!
Rakim had the clearest delivery of all rappers. Each syllable was perfect, intonation and accent exactly where he wanted your attention. The sonic wall of samples was a masterpiece and nothing like this could be done today due to copyright laws
This is probably the greatest hip-hop song ever made. That beat is iconic. And Rakim's flow was something no one ever heard of at the time it was released. Truly a game changer.
I consider myself a metal head as well but love the hip hop from my youth such as this, Cool J, Ice T, Kool Moe Dee, BDP and of course the great Run-DMC

Wow
Real Rap!!! Old School will forever be Superior to today's mainstream Rap!
Todays so called music is Trash cant stand that crap. Im always on youtube going back to the old days
Yes. There wasn't mumbling in the old days.
One of greatest tracks of all time !!!
Born 91 south Bronx where hip-hop was started at and still listen to this in 2023 the real hip-hop, not genocide and degrading our people hip-hop 🔥🔥
Born 91 in Las Vegas, NV and I brush my teeth to this!
This culture is lost now a day
Dude, you're born in 91 hillarious. All us Gs were popping in the clubs to this while you were breastfeeding millenial. Sit down kid, you grew up to Minimal. When were you in the bars bro! 2010 ROTFL...
Best hip hop song ever. It epitomizes the origins of the culture - big beats, mixing, scratching, sampling R&B old school hits, and hype rap lyrics about getting paid to get paid ...
I disagree, there are songs of the era that manage to talk about real issues.
Da Art Of Storytellin' and C.R.E.A.M would like to have a word with you
Grandmaster flash- the message
@@GLBJ260 Agree they started it all the message Grandmaster and the Furious 5 2 Eric B And Rakim And then Whodini And Run DMC And LL Cool J
guys, if you love real hip hop, please watch on TH-cam a short story of former music executive Krayzie Bone, who speak about a special meeting, that happened in year 1991 in LA, which changed the entire hip hop music industry, you can find this on YT: "Krayzie bones exposes the secret meeting that destroyed our generation"
I’ll never forget hearing this for the time blaring from my sister’s room. When she would leave, I’d sneak in her room to play the record over and over. The meld of that woman singing, the conga drums, the hard beat, the random samples, their rhyme…it is a journey into sound.
The singing is a sample from Ofra Haza - Im Nin'alu. Ofra Haza was an Israeli singer.
Paid in Full is the album that aged well!
LOL! Found you. Nice to see you here
@@yunarukami14 Aw, dang! How did you find me?

Rakim was Pioneer of hip hop
this song is a work of a genius
You said it! True genius! Check out Rakim's Lyric Breakdown th-cam.com/video/zg3xcZnzbCw/w-d-xo.html
fr the most INSANE hip hop video i’ve ever seen before
From The Blues to Rap the musical Genius of Black Americans
blues and rap are actually pretty similar, afro americans created it and basically you sing / rap your story, your life , your love pain.
Let's not forget jazz and the inspiration for rock and roll. #blackexcellence
and don't forget house and early techno.
Paid in Full is literally in my top 10 greatest Hip Hop tracks of all time 👍🏾😁
My Melody is the greatest hip hop track, in my opinion.
It is a moment
@@Musicienne-DAB1995THAT JOINT ROCKED HARD!!! 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿✌🏿
Smooth
80s hip hop was such a vibe. Soooo creative because it was the beginning. I wasn't even born until the 90's but I'm proud of these "kids" (who are the same age as my parents!) for doing so much with so little. Their legacy is hip hop from every generation until now!
Rakim had the clearest delivery of all rappers. Each syllable was perfect, intonation and accent exactly where he wanted your attention.
The sonic wall of samples was a masterpiece and nothing like this could be done today due to copyright laws
Sonic art, and great visuals! I wish this was a 12 hour loop...I could listen to this all day
it would be a 24 hour loop then right?
@@jjsmith8681 no, because 12 of the 24 hours is night...and I still need to get some sleep :-p

One of my favorites since 1987 and it NEVER gets old! Eric B. & Rakim - way ahead of their time.
All his lyrics are like the national anthem of rap! PEACE! PEACE! PEACE!
Ofra Haza's voice still gives me chills
This was so ahead of its time...If it was released today... it would still be FIRE and would be all over the radio as the #1 hit
This is probably the greatest hip-hop song ever made. That beat is iconic. And Rakim's flow was something no one ever heard of at the time it was released. Truly a game changer.
Agree 💯
Samidot fucking obliterates lol

Still a kickass classic. "This is a journey" plays into my head 24 years later without thought or warning
36 years…Man
I was 14 yrs old when I first heard this and played it constantly, and today at 45 I still remember the lyrics.

The real ones understand good music - it knows no boundaries -it knows no genres !
+Nick Kalsi: Nice to find someone so open-minded. Good for you.
Much respect ✊ to this musical genius from another metal head
I consider myself a metal head as well but love the hip hop from my youth such as this, Cool J, Ice T, Kool Moe Dee, BDP and of course the great Run-DMC

1987? wayyyyy ahead of its time. GENIUS.
OH YEAH
Stacie Jones Eric B and Rakim take no credit for this remix.
Yeah, this is Cut Chemist's remix, but they're still ahead of their time. This album is fuckin' timeless though, if you get the expanded edition it comes with this remix and others.
