    Little stems make good tannins!

    Great video! Made me excited about this year's upcoming grape season in about a couple of months - 2 & a half months!
    Can't wait!
    While I am waiting I've just made a pyment - a grape mead...in my case a grape juice mixed with honey.
    A suggestion: when you're adding potassium metabisulfite, whether it's in a diluted form of campden tablets or concentrated - usually sold in little bags, add some pectic enzyme too...say, 1/2 of teaspoon per gallon. It'll help immensely with further disintegration of berries and the extraction of all the grape goodies... juice, color, flavor, aroma, tannins...etc.

      How did your meade turn out?

      @@RussellDoesLife Oh I've just mixed it up yesterday, it's fermenting.
      Last year when I made 10L of pyment from actual grapes, it turned out wonderful. I still have 7 bottles and right now, it's amazing...it is like a big, bold red wine with much more age on it than just a year, lol!
      It has almost certainly gone through the malolactic fermentation but the honey character gives it even more buttery smoothness.

    Thanks for sharing this video. Really enjoyed watching your process of making the wine and appreciate you sharing the experience.
    Curious how many vines you have and how long it took them to grow (or if you got them from a nursery/vineyard already grown).
    Also, will you make another video for this year as well?
    Thanks!

      I will definitely be making a new batch this year and a new video, Hopefully improving on last year's techniques again.
      I was blessed in that my neighbors already had these vines growing across their backfence into my backyard. So I don't have much information on buying the vines or growing them.
      This year I have trained the vines up some light cords I have across my backyard. They have been climbing and they are gonna produce much more fruit I hope.
      I believe it is 3 main plants.

    To me it looks like you forgot to put water (or sanitizer fluid) in the air-lock.

    Approx how many kg/lbs of grapes did you harvest? Were there creepy crawlies in the bunches?

    • @RussellDoesLife
      @RussellDoesLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interestingly there was very little to no bugs at all with my grapes.
      I actually didn't measure the weight of the grapes when I picked them so I can't answer for you on this one.
      This year however I will try to remember to weigh them first to know how many pounds lead to how many bottles.
      Right now, I can measure with " my backyard vines leads to this many bottles".
      The part of the video where you see the big red cooler full of grapes is kinda showing you the amount.

    Hello,
    I have a question, how do you know how much sugar or yeast you need to add to reach the percentage of alcohol needed?

    • @RussellDoesLife
      @RussellDoesLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      heres some good tips.
      Note Hydrometer procedures step 3
      www.homebrewit.com/pages/hydrometer-basics-for-home-brewing-and-wine-making
      But remember that you can put more sugar in, but you can't take it out.
      It's very easy to mix up and add more and measure with the hyrdometer as you go until you get what you want.

      @@RussellDoesLife thank you for this! And how do we know that we have enough yeast to transform all the sugar?
