Thanks for explaining this so well. I have searched all over TH-cam for an explanation of square soffits. I think you are it!

Thank you for sharing this. I've always wanted to know the dynamics behind this gusset style and where they're best used. Makesupply is a blessing to the leather-crafting community.

Thank you so much! This video was so helpful in learning a new technique, I think you are the only one on TH-cam that is teaching it. Love your videos so professional.

Nicely done video as always ... ...
I've done gussets like this for trap & skeet shooting pouches and have always done the middle panel & gussets first. This made for easier stitch marking and fitting in the stitching clamp.
As always, I'll look forward to your next video ... ...

Yeah I probably should have done that. The extra gusset really threw me for a loop. Pressure is on when the camera is in your face haha.

For the tabs on the side, I have put them on the inside so you just see a nice flat panel and a stitch line on the sides. I like the idea of doing a design on it though I'll have to give it a try!

How well does this design work when being machine sewn on a cylinder arm machine?

VERY well. As long as you make the depth deep enough to reach your presser foot without bending too much. I did a 1/2" and it was just enough.

You can punch your middle panel, glue one side gusset to it punch thru with awl, then glue other gusset and punch thru that one, sew with one thread one stich.

This makes me want to try a mini version inside a long wallet, maybe for a phone pouch just to give it the extra depth.

I think some sort of design on the bottom tab would add a lot to the total look.

It is Aquilim 315. Water based cement I love it so far.

I will use this to make me a 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" open box to hold some leather tools on my desk.
