Thats my XJ! It is not stock but barely lifted, its 2" in the front 3.5" in the rear on 31s. Jeeps home safe and needs work but all is good now thanks to you guys! Edit: the reason i was on the trail was to re-create a picture my dad took in my grandpa's 45 Willys on poison spider (mission successful) but along the way early on into poison spider a group adopted us so we stuck with them. The reason we left the Jeep was it took us 5ish hours to get there and since we were dead center if the trail it was 5 hours each way. It broke at 4:45pm. We got out the other end of the trail at about 10:00pm and we had school in a town 3 hours away.
Not to burst your bubble man its stock. Dudes out there running tires almost double the size of yours and have trouble getting places with full lockers, doublers gear reduction everything. I give ya a handshake tho for having the nuts to do it and pretty good driving.
Oops! I read the description of the video and started to read the comments, thought I'd better watch the show to see what speaking Cherokee 18:04 was all about.
Wow between Mike's superb camera work and now Justin's drone flying the quality of the Trail Mater channel has risen multiple times over. Keep up the great work and keep the videos coming. Thanks all. PS Shaun is no slouch with the camera either!
For those interested, jeeps have a canbus system which means if a couple of wires short, the jeep will die. From his description, i bet the wiring harness that is near the front axle has a pinched or bare wire. I learned that the hard way.
It's called a ring topology for a network that consists of a point-to-point connection. If a connection breaks it can no longer pass information along. Very similar to the old series wired Christmas lights where one bulb went out they all went out.
Those darn transmission mount bolts on the XJ almost got me too. I picked up a vibration when mine worked loose and disappeared. Luckily, I noticed it when I stopped to check things out and as I went to unscrew the T-Case fill plug to check the fluid the whole t-case and trans shifted as I tried to turn the wrench. Looked closely at the mount and noticed the two bolts holding the mount were GONE! Now I carry a couple extra spares in my tool kit.
I had the same issue blowing fuse M19 on my 2012 JK. It turns out that the ASD wire that runs to one of the injectors was rubbing on a head bolt and had shorted out. It only took about 10 fuses to track it down, and a good bit of electrical tape to patch it up. The wiring harness had not been secured after some previous service and that allowed the wires at the injector to contact the head bold.
Heck yeah! an XJ on 31's with a 2" budget lift is the peak of 4wd capability per dollar! I've put 15K into my XJ since I wheeled that setup and it's maybe 25% more capable. Also, XJs don't mysteriously stop working when you drop off a small bump!
For the last week I've been off roading in Arizona off Eagle eye road. This morning, I hooked up the Jeep and headed to a new spot. I flat tow my Jeep behind my RV. After arriving, I unhooked and as I was backing up, I lost all steering. Fortunately, I had the tools to remove the drag link that had separated at the ball joint and thank my lucky stars I wasn't in the middle of nowhere and hanging off a cliff.
Just awesome if you replace everything below the frame rails and rewire it so the safety's don't kill it when you tip more than 4 degrees. Keep your electroplastic crap in the mall parking lot where it belongs. Please don't block our trails cuz your fuse 18 blows and shuts your whole rig off. I got better stuff to do than wait for wanna be off roaders to calm their scared little jeeps down enough to get them into limp mode so they can tiptoe off the bunny hills. Pure junk
Congrats Rory and Mrs Rory on the wedding..thank you for awesome videos Enjoy everything you guys do always laugh with you guys...thank you keep up the amazing work
Great job on the recoveries!! Nice camera work on the trail shots too!! You guys are always a good watch because it's always different and you get the job done no matter what! Love it!!!
What a Halloween present Mater doing 3 recovery's and what an adventure it was with the beautiful scenery and all! Sometimes these guys experience with these vehicles is unparalleled and spot on in getting these guys out! Good video!
First place to check on a jku is front passenger by the sway bar. That wiring loom can get pinched and chewed up causing havoc. Had that happen to two rigs I have wheeled with and learning that has saved our bacon before. Once in the middle of the rubicon
Awesome video. We were in Moab back in July came all the way from Kansas. Stopped by your shop didn’t get to meet you guys but picked up a bunch of merch and got to sit in trail mater. Can’t wait to go back. We rented a jeep and did poison spider and some other trails while we were there.
Goes to show never under estimate a jeep built before 2004...I had a WJ that did impressive things on a set of 285s. Hell of an office y'all to to work in everyday!
There was a trail you guys used to be on all the time and I never see it anymore. A very tall and steep step up with a 90° turn at the top. Has winch anchors in it. I even seem to recall the boom hitting a customers hood on it once. Can't remember the name of it.
Loving the drone footage. Laura Farms had some from a night harvest his week which was absolutely spectacular, and that was in a Nebraskan cornfield. Imagine it on a moonlight night in Utah!

Favorite Jeep ever
Wheeoh! Waited so long for a trailmater video I thought I'd be pitching in for the hospital bill!
Glad you got home safe. Sounds like a loose wire grounded out, hope it is an easy fix. 😊😊

Xj wheel really good
😂 Shawn speaks cherokee is the best line I've heard ever heard on here😂 my wife and I both burst out laughing at that one.
Oh that view down to 191 was amazing
"Yeah, I'll follow you."
Folks, I just love this little running gag of the Trailmater crew... 😁🤘
Nice recovery of that Cherokee...that b was able to go that far.
Shawn speaks Cherokee......I truly enjoy you guys. Congrats Rory.
I thought he was Navajo? Related to the Code Talkers. The last one recently died, RIP, Hero!
Oops! I read the description of the video and started to read the comments, thought I'd better watch the show to see what speaking Cherokee 18:04 was all about.
A joke started by a white man whose creative thought was to misappropriate a nation to name a vehicle.
Justin's drone work is always appreciated! 👍
Congratulations again to. Rory for getting married..
Wow between Mike's superb camera work and now Justin's drone flying the quality of the Trail Mater channel has risen multiple times over. Keep up the great work and keep the videos coming. Thanks all.
PS Shaun is no slouch with the camera either!
When Shawn ran out to the overlook, I leaned back in my chair. When Rory went down/out on the little point, I slid my chair back about 2 feet. 😮😊
I liked it when Rory jumped on it. If it broke off, we would all miss him, but Chris would miss him the most.
I thought he was going to take a leak, that would be an epic spot to take one. Not that I would want it filmed.
9:31 congratulations Rory on your marriage!

LIFT KITS GET THEM

There’s nothing better than a “rescuee” who knows everything except how to be rescued.
11:30 love when Rory takes the scenic route🤩💚❣️
I've been around welding so much that sometimes I look away when you guys weld!! It's instinctual. 😅😂
Ya, i swear it burns my eyes! 😂
I cover the spark with my finger...😂.
I wear my welding helmet watching these vids.
@rickcampbell372 Hahahaha 😅 💥
@Aaron.M.Solomon 💥😅
My Jeep XJ, but in Moab!! Exactly. Proud of my 23yo beast. 173k, just did the rear main seal.
That view was incredible... (15:07)
"So as I understand it we got a jeep of some king with some kind of issue". Geez that is one great piece of information right there!
Excellent recoverys guys.....the views are always breathtaking and exciting....thanks for taking me along!!
I busted out laughing when Rory was standing on that rock, turned, and did that little shake and "ahh" thing. Thanks, guys.
Awesome, good to see ole Justin hanging out. Great work, guys 🇺🇸
Congratulations Rory and Chris!
Congrats, Chris and Rory! Wish you both a wonderful life together!
Thanks Rory for showcasing the 3 Trailmater team members individual and team skills/knowledge in this video.
Shawn speaks Cherokee. Best comment in the whole video. I am glad then three of you are such great friends
Cherokees are so capable stock and cheap to modify. I have one and love it. I have modded mine and really enjoy it.
15:20, OH SHIT !! The shot from that height just made my taint tighten and tingle so hard I had to look away ! I just wasn’t ready for it.
Thumbs up 👍, Rory at it again
Congratulations to Rory and Chris. 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Too much electronic gobbledygook in today’s cars.
Congratulations, Rory and Chris!
Rory looking starry eyed at the Cherokee, me too. Sure was generous to give Shawn yours!!! He was definitely going to let Shawn drive Buggy out😂
Shawn ( Sean) is a psychic he was able to identify a broken jeep on site hahaha. Matt
I stopped at trailmater shop last week.
And met Mrs Irish! What a lucky man UR! It was such a pleasure to meet her!
thanks Rory and crew for the off-road recovery vids!
Rory, Irish trail Mater is the best off road recovery team in the world
Is that a drone over there... keep going, keep going, keep going, right there... oh, its a plane. lol!

CONGRATULATIONS MR. & MRS. IRISH
Thanks, Mike. We haven't seen those shots in a while.

Hollywood level camera kudos on the linkage. Thank you for it.

Colion Noir and Brandon Herrera for director of the ATF.
Excellent work!
Thank you for sharing :)
In the opening shot the vent pipes on the toilets make Rory’s truck look like it has huge stacks 😂
Keep up with the good work love watching your videos on TH-cam God bless you and your team

Great recoveries! Thank you for sharing. Maybe my XJ could actually do some of those trails. Hopefully one day
Shawn is the XJ whisperer
Thank you for taking us along!
I new XJ's were good stock to wheel in , i had no idea they were this good to handle some pretty serious trails in Moab 👍
I have a 99 xj with 345,000 + miles on it. Thing has always been like driving on velcro with fuzzy tires, wouldn't trade it for anything
What a Halloween present Mater doing 3 recovery's and what an adventure it was with the beautiful scenery and all! Sometimes these guys experience with these vehicles is unparalleled and spot on in getting these guys out! Good video!
Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
Great job again.
Nothing better than an XJ
