  • Dr. Alfred Bonati discusses Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a pain-related disorder that causes widespread musculoskeletal pain that can impact daily activities. This central nervous system condition affects more than 10 million Americans, according to the National Fibromyalgia Association.
Women are diagnosed with fibromyalgia more frequently than men; an estimated 6 to 10 percent of women have the condition. Less than 1 percent of men in America also suffer from fibromyalgia. Though mostly diagnosed in adults, fibromyalgia also affects children and teens. Between 1 and 7 percent of children are believed to have the condition.
Fibromyalgia pain can ebb and flow, which means some days are worse than others. Fibromyalgia pain relief can be difficult to find, but there are many treatment options that can help you minimize your discomfort.
The most prominent sign of fibromyalgia is chronic pain. In the 20th century, fibromyalgia was identified by pain in all 4 quadrants of the body for a duration of 3 months. Some of the symptoms of fibromyalgia include:
    Pain
    Fatigue
    Headaches
    Difficulty sleeping
    Anxiety
    “Fibro fog”/cognitive difficulties
    Irritable bowel syndrome
    Depression
Women may also suffer more painful menstrual cramps. Fibromyalgia pain is widespread and often felt in the muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. It can be a dull, sharp, throbbing or aching pain.
    Treatment for Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia treatment options specifically focus on the use of pain relievers, antidepressants and other medications.
Over-the-counter pain relievers may be used to dull the pain some of the time; however, narcotics are not advised as a fibromyalgia treatment option.
Other medications, such as antidepressants, may also be used to treat the anxiety or depression that accompanies fibromyalgia.
When the extensive pain a person is feeling is caused by spinal cord compression, cervical spine surgery could provide some fibromyalgia pain relief. According to the National Fibromyalgia Research Association, 42 out of 45 people with fibromyalgia also exhibited signs of spinal cord compression.
We advocate patients suffering from debilitating chronic pain to contact us for an MRI review or to discuss symptoms with a spine surgeon to discover if the Bonati Spine Procedures could be a fibromyalgia treatment option.

I fell off a ladder and the ladder broke 5 bones in my ankle and foot and dislocated it outward. Once I got home from the hospital I realized I felt like I weighed 1,000 lbs. It was after that that the sensitivities and trigger pain started. With respect, you greatly over-simplify this condition. Interestingly tho, I had a gymnastic neck injury at 13 now I have symptomatic cervical kyphosis. I finally have an appointment with a rheumatologist next week.

Not everyone goes down the path of narcotics and joining groups. I don't take pain killers and I definitely don't get involved with fibromyalgia groups because when I was first diagnosed I quickly worked out that they made me feel more depressed.

Glad to hear you were able to avoid the narcotics, unfortunately many people become dependent on them and succumb to depression. You can learn more about our procedures by visiting www.bonati.com

I didn't have a accident, l don't go to groups, l don't take medication for fibromyalgia. I have suffered anxiety and depression for 30 years. I think it's related to the nervous system and trauma. Stress and worry doesn't help..

About 50% of fibromyalgia patients has ( smal fiber neuropathy) tingling numbness in all body in addition to neck pain
Now : if you solved the neck pain by surgery how you can stop neuropathic pain ( small fiber neuropathy) in all body

Hey @shamtibbi8250, the procedures done at our facility can cure much more than just neck pain. A lot of the time, people arrive with pain that not only lies in just the neck or back, but it also can radiate to other parts of the body, primarily into the arms and legs depending on the affected area. In order to answer your question, we would have to know where exactly your pain stems from and where does it radiate to. If you would like to provide us with this information, we would be able to let you know if you’re a candidate for our procedure or at least guide you in the right direction. You can reach us at, www.askbonati.com/?TH-cam&Organic&Fibromyalgia&DrBonatiLive or by phone at (888) 343-0082.

I was told by a doctor to never let anyone touch my back with a scalpel I think I’ll just stick with my pain meds!

I had disc problems and pinched nerves in each section of my spine so surgery greatly improved my ability to heal. Reluctantly I changed my diet. I knew I had to do it but I am stubborn 😖. I am now enjoying it now; I cant get enough colors in my diet.
Ok 💯 my experience! I was diagnosed at the UofM hospital in Auburn by the head of Rheumatology. That was 2005/06 and a waste of time.

I was diagnosed around 1996 and it’s gotten a lot worse through out the years. I had breast cancer and after going through the chemotherapy and radiation. I know my fibromyalgia got worse. But my Dr. says no it didn’t get worse then. Am I wrong and I just notice it more then.

You know your body better than any doctor does! Until they come up with an instruments that can measure the pain you’re experiencing, they will never completely understand. Don’t let your doctor gaslight you!

If you're allergic to nickel, could that cause pain post-3-level c3/4-4/5-6 ACDF? I had c herniations post rear-end accident in 2007 with a large truck. Pain burning worse post neurosurgery in 2007, similar to fibromyalgia, and the right arm-shoulder feels like CRPS! Now I'm herniated above/below past surgery. I'm scared. Interventional pain mgmt zero help 🆘 I am a court reporter who loves my job❗🎯

@@BonatiSpinenearly 40 years post injury and 20 years diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I see you really have a great understanding of this diagnosis and it really has helped me to understand the diagnosis and treatment options. My right arm was losing power and was hanging very low so surgery gave me some movement. Despite 10+ mris no one saw the Neuromuscular Scoliosis even though a pediatrician saw it years prior. Instead of treating me properly they jerked me around until I finally went to the useless PC with a list of symptoms I was having that matched MS. If I hadn’t demanded it be ruled out I don’t know where I would be today. 😢 the USA is last place you want to need healthcare bottom of the barrel
