As a fan of twisted metal growing up it's sad that the series is in cold storage but if done correctly (TM: Black was one of the best PS2 games of all time) it can resurrect this wicked series once again
Wish 2012 kept the formula of having a driver per car, I love the amount of story with each driver and I missed some old drivers from past games in 2012. Part of me want them to continue with the dark TM: Black story but I also want some wacky 90's action to come back, I know both of those things can't really exist in the same game but I can wish.
I agree, the last TM really dropped ball in this regard. They need to not get cute and try too many new things. This is a pretty simple franchise, have a car, a driver with a dark or over the top personality. Play an arcade mode to completion and get an ending where Calypso twists their wish around on them. Add a larger story if you want, but this is essential. Also we for sure need classic vehicles back. Sweet Tooth, Grimm, Darkside, Axel, i would say are guaranteed. Though some of the other classics who have been PS1 mainstays like Thumper or Hammerhead. Even if its just DLC packs to ensure sales of a season pass, need to happen. With arcade endings of course.
@@veissra4047 100% agree, TM 2012 felt like it didn't really have the TM soul other games had. I do like the idea of a game having a base of 5-7 drivers some new some old and a way to unlock older drivers.
@@whatthespenny4835 Well we also live in a day and age where dlc packs are sold by strategic markesting. Keep an original out because people.will buy it later. I been using Thumper as an example for this, but depending on tone. Maybe Thumper does not make the cut, which would be fine. Old school fans of the series would still buy them as DLC along with other legacy characters that may not be base roster and or unlockable.
7:00 In some cases, Depending on where the level is, the civilian aggression could be default higher (Chicago, LA, Texas, a military town…). Also in some cases, the civilians only get more and more angry the more damage you cause or the longer the match goes on.
What I'd really love is for Harbor City to be finished. At that time of early development, the team even thought about implementing a feature where drivers could get out of their vehicles to do some side missions. Would've loved to see how the devs would execute it. It's a shame we'll prly never have something like that. Also, it would've been cool to see the continuation of TMB characters' storylines since some of them were supposed to make a return
I like your idea of Calypso rigging the competition to make sure he stays in power in the end. He's already done it at least once with bringing his daughter back to life to fight, so why not have some of the racers be on his payroll. Personally, I'd like to see a story mode that covers more than just the individual drivers. I want intrigue that's more than just "Oh! This guy knows/is related to this guy!" kind of thing. Something kinda fun might be that, as drivers get destroyed in the competition, have some of them die and be removed and replaced in later levels. Then, right before the final match, have the drivers in a sort of waiting room, and their interactions with the other psychotics would change depending on whos still alive. Seeing them interact with each other would be kinda fun. Plus, you could have some fun background storytelling with Marcus and Needles. If you play as Marcus or Needles, and they both make it to that room, they will see the other there, but nobody's interacting with them (which, if you play as Marcus, nobody being nervous that they're in a possible murder room with Sweet Tooth would be highly suspicious). If you play as anyone else, you will never see them in that same room together, even though everyone's supposed to be there. You could throw new players off a bit by adding a character like Mortimer from Twisted Metal 3, who can see and interact with the dead. He could be another character who's not interacting with the other drivers, but he is interacting with things no one else can see. Could be a nice moment to throw some fan service in there too. Morty could be talking to old combatants. I would say, also, that characters could have alternative, secret endings/story beats depending on how the game plays out. If a driver is forced to kill their lover during the competition, it would probably change their wish in the end. As an example, you could have something like Dollface wanting to get her mask off, but, if you ram enough people, or ram a stage hazard hard enough, the mask will actually shatter and break off. Have it be that, for the rest of that match, your vision is wavy or blurry due to the concussion and the shock. Then, when you get to Calypso, you can see Dollface's face, and her desires would have changed. Maybe she's confused and broken now. Unable to imagine life outside the mask. Calypso could jump on the opportunity and offer her a position as his new enforcer. This would be an interesting outcome because it would put Darkside back as a driver for Calypso, and, possibly, be a character who never actually used their wish. That means that, if this would be the canon ending to the game, a sequel could have Darkside as a Boss, and, when she begins to lose, she could call in her wish to be unstoppable (side note, I would have it so Darkside is the Final Boss of characters Calypso doesn't want to win specifically), Calypso will grant the wish, and now your fighting (or, more accurately, running from) an Omega Darkside, and Dollface becomes a callback to the old character, Black. (yes, I know Mr. Ash was the old driver of Darkside, but a better callback would be Black, an important underling of Calypso, not the only person Calypso feared.) This could be a moment where all rules get thrown out the window, you have to find a way out of the arena, and you have to lose Omega Darkside in a nearby city, or trick them to drive into a raging river, or something of the like. Something like this would be a ton of fun in the game going forward, I think. Intrigue, twists, and clever interactions.
Or, unique vehicles he uses to manipulate the tournament. He used juggernauts as objectives in 2012, and he permitted, or manipulated, the gangs, and their leaders, with very unique boss vehicles. More of that, please.
So many good ideas for sure but you're missing one thing: a custom soundtrack option. Twisted Metal 2012 had it and I would like to see it return for a future title.
Ideally there'd be a pre-set soundtrack, a list of songs to make your own soundtrack with existing assets, and the option to play your own music in place of the soundtrack. Imagine the hilarity of seeing Mr. Grimm driving around destroying enemied to the YMCA
Back when the 2012 game was about to come out, I had dreams of seeing different types of bosses that would be fought through different phases: a train, a zeppelin (that one got inspired by TM3), Minion upgrading his tank to a massive Schwerer Gustav or a gargantuan mining dump truck.
The trolley in TM4 was basically a boss if you weren't paying attention on the tracks 😂nothing like just being about to kill moonbuggy and get steam rolled
Twisted Metal 2 was one of the first games I ever played, and I remember my mom and dad getting super excited when they managed to beat minion. It's one of my earliest memories and it's had a soft spot in my heart since then.
Agree, this is one of my most beloved gaming memories and I'm sad to see it go as it had. As much as I'd like to see the old crew (Jaffe, Campbell, Gaim) back and unrestricted at the helm, there are others who could contribute with destructive game play (What's the guys from LuxoFlux doing these days?) and maybe a few that can write good creepy background stories. I also didn't think about the horror car cameos, but that's kind brilliant.
Simply, I would just want TM 2012 gameplay and TM Black story structure More detailed: Love the classic levels idea. Maybe after each level you complete, you pick either a classic or new stage If there is a single narrative, I like the idea of a team Calypso vs team SweetTooth story. Kind of like you mentioned, there is kind of an underlying alliance with Calypso, Minion + new(ish) characters, then eventually Needles and Marcus figure out what's happening and align themselves with the OG characters. This could also introduce a level with team deathmatch
That would be cool. Maybe could do it like Doom did, where you can find retro levels and can play them with the new mechanics but old graphics for the level.
Twisted Metal Battle of The Bands: Every character is a band themed car and drivers are the band members. ACDC, Kiss, Rob Zombie, Metallica, Avenge Seven Fold, Green Day are just some of the possibles.
I love this narrative dissection! TMB is one of my all-time favorite couch coop games. The series is often overlooked compared to other Sony franchises. Would love to see Jaffe come back for another dark take on the tournament.
Here's me throwing my few cents in the twisted metal wishlist 1. The whole roster of TM4, Black, Head on (since it has most if not all the twisted metal 2) and 2012 (each car being its own character) (not to forget ma boy club kid) 2. Every great stage from Black, 2012, Head on and TM4 3. Have a story mode somewhere closer to Black(not all the way black, have each character be broken in by something bad) 4. I like boss fights (but not as extravagant as Iron Maiden... Nope, but something along the lines of TM1 minion, Primeval, TM head on Dark tooth etc). (and they be playable once you beat them) 5. I loved the idea of each character special having 2 or 3 differnt modes 6. As much as i liked keypad combos to itse special attacks such as freeze, shield, invis etc, i liked 2012's take of it (i wouldn't mind that version) 7. A challenge which unlocks say an even meaner alt version of characters Say to unlock Infernal Roadkill, kill xx targets with your special while burning or something (adds replayability) 8. While i like the idea of each driver dropping an upgrade, make boss fights challenging based on how buffed you are 9. A tiny smidge of visual customisation would be nice (liveries, paints, body kits etc.) 10. Create a car (from TM4) But more special abilities unlock for you to choose allowing you to make endless number of builds (eg : I cleared the base campaign with 3 unique characters and now i have a fire based special unlocked, which i can purchase and change as i see fit) (Change build by changing chassis, engine, armor levels and body kit, so you can go from pint sized hard to hit, mega hard hitting glass cannon to a absolute juggernaut who can freeze and stomp our opposition (inspired by Armored Core 6) 11. A balance which allows every character some level of viability (but make specter the absolute cheeze magnet or grimm as the hard hitting glass cannon etc.) 12. The AI should engage each other too rather than just all ganging up on the player at all times
I’ve always wanted a really dark and downright f**ked up TM. Something that gives me nightmares and makes news headlines as a horrid spectacle. Think of Black but bordering on the line of sever horror with no crafty ways to censor gore or uneasy violent mental situations. A lot of people don’t like that depressing vibe but that’s my dream game right there.
Twisted metal deserves that treatment, couldn't have said it better myself, I'd like it if they would let us build our own vehicles, customization, and go to a junkyard to salvage parts and all this could tie into the story somehow, upgrade the weapons and armor and id say they need to make it EPIC in scale but one can dream until then lol
As what is technically a veteran (having owned 1, 2, 4 and Small Brawl on the PS1), and as a game designer, I thought about how to bring Twisted Metal back as a franchise from both a storytelling and gameplay standpoint. I mostly agree with everything you said. Making a AAA budget game, though, is something I'd prefer to avoid, since it usually means feature creep, microtransactions/DLC, grossly disproportionate marketing teams, and unnecessary celebrity cameos that cost a disgusting amount of money to hire. I'd rather go with a B-grade, A at most budget game. The comic book-style cutscenes, however, should most definitely be kept. You could definitely do a lot with the premise, why Calypso decided to start this tournament of death and really nail down a theme, consistent story (and drivers *HAMMERHEAD*) and set of rules (explicitly and otherwise) to how his powers work. If we go with the MK11-like story idea, then that means you could go nuts with what the person would do with their wish and their ultimate ambitions. We could also have character interactions before matches to better establish the characters, their personalities, and possibly imply that some of the drivers died in previous tournaments, only for Calypso to bring them back to life for the next year's tournament. That could be the story in and of itself, that Calypso uses chaos energy from the destruction of the tournaments to keep himself empowered and grant wishes. This has gone on for so long that there is no shortage of people who join with the intention of ending the tournament, or overthrowing Calypso and stealing his power for themselves (or in the cases of Darkside, Minion, and/or Mr. Grimm, taking their power/Calypso's soul back). Calypso, in turn, has hired a bunch of drivers to stop the wrong people from getting too close to him or winning the tournament. Make this a battle between Heaven and Hell, if you want. This would open up the opportunity to introduce heaven-inspired characters to the series, and allow certain characters to fight Calypso as the final boss in the arcade mode. Gameplay-wise, I agree with the choice in weapons to keep: Fire, Homing, Power, Freeze. I'd keep the mortar in, however, because of the verticality and the ability to shoot over low cover with it. Mines, too, probably, though you should be able to target and eliminate them to avoid frustration issues; maybe a small delay before the explosion so drivers could have some degree of counterplay against them. Ricochet I would also leave in. The machinegun, aside from being a fallback weapon with infinite ammo (no cooldown!) could be remade as a way to also build up a meter that supercharges your other abilities for a short amount of time. Character weight could also affect their proficiencies with different weapons. Large, heavy vehicles like Hammerhead and Sweet Tooth would be most proficient and deal more damage with close range weapons like the shotgun, and lighter vehicles like Grasshopper would specialize in longer ranged weapons.
IF there's a new TM game and it brings back those wishes for prizes, they MUST be wishes that are granted with no strings attached for at least the majority of the wishers just like in the first Twisted Metal game.
Hear me out… what if we got a time travel level? Like the level will randomly morph into random levels from past games with updated textures, and randomly switching cars to their old designs and abilities. This could be a final level where Roadkill is on a quest to kill Calypso and now he’s changing the tournament with his powers to try to stop him. I think it would be awesome.
My take on your version of the story mode: Instead of Calypso being afraid of Needles/Sweet Tooth, he is more afraid of the Marcus persona because he subconsciously knows the world is an illusion, but the Needles persona took control as a defense mechanism, keeping Marcus at bay. Once Needles is defeated, it will free Marcus who regains his awareness and causes the destruction of the universe, which (per your Calypso-multiverse theory) removes Calypso's control over that particular universe and his ability to gather souls. It would turn out that Marcus was neither right nor crazy, but some sort of entity endowed with the ability to destroy his own universe if he ever became aware of his powers as some sort of fail safe to prevent the damnation of his universe. A little out there, I know, but it would give the characters more depth. As for the Kratos thing, I just always assumed his blades in Calypso's case were collected by Sweet Tooth from their Playstation Brawl encounter as opposed to Kratos actually driving a vehicle in the Twisted Metal tournament.
My dream is for the combat to have insane depth…. Every character being viable with their own unique playstyle. Maybe add some defensive options. Maps having all types of strategical vantage points and gimmicks. Multiple patches to ensure balanced gameplay. No shot in hell that happens, but I’ll welcome a new edition regardless
One thing that always stood out to me as a bit of a bugbear was the fact that while the rosters in the TM games were expansive, they weren't quite 'big' enough to justify the sense of you going through a tournament. That sometimes despite defeating or killing one of the characters in a match you'd often find yourself FIGHTING that character or car again. If they could do it, and that's assuming they would put that cars into the roster (honestly I would just go with adding ALL of them from TM 1 to 4 and adding several new ones here and there), I would almost have it where you won't ever come across the same car that you defeated from the previous tower match into the next. That way, it changes up the gameplay to be fresh and keeps you changing your tactics depending on who you're fighting. I want to feel as though that the cars that I'm fighting had to get through as much as I did to get where I am, rather than just being randomly respawned for my sake.
An arcade mode and story mode would be brilliant. A chance to see different endings for each character based on their desires in Arcade Mode and the story feature many chapters dedicated to certain characters. The idea of is culminating into a Sweet Tooth story is awesome.
I love most of the ideas your swinging, one thing about the health pick ups, you could make it that if you kill someone you gain a small % health back or like they did in the past run over the driver of the person you killed to get hp back. they could look towards Crossout for new weapon ideas or perhaps other games, otherwise I like everything you suggested.
Yeah that would be cool. One cars ability could be like the rally mechanic in bloodborne where you get damaged and you do damage to get that health back. Could see a lot stuff you can do with that life steal when you kill a car
id go back to having a unique driver character per vehicle, unlockable characters, skins,Multiple endings per character depending how you word your wish,it can be like 2012 in gameplay, layered destructability(buildings that don't just poof away with one machine gun shot but become structure fires)As for guest characters, maybe Christine,or Mad Max with his Interceptor
1 smash ultimate style roster 2 campaign that is a combination of what twisted metal lost was going to be a normal demo derby tm gameplay and mk style storytelling 3 noob friendly 4 map creator 5 Calypso as a secret character 6 make the story and world semi realistic a combination of tm2 world and tm black world 7 alignments like in tm4 8 hammerhead getting a good ending this time 9 character skins and alternate voices for some skins 10 every surviving member of the Kane family I liked the idea of Marcus being needles brother more than him being a split personality and bring some back too as a passenger for yellowjacket
Whether making a game or movie, they should take inspiration from things like Death Race and Ghost Rider. I feel like Death Race is just PERFECT as a modern reference and the Ghost Rider movies, especially the second one, really bring that grimdark feeling to death and carnage.
18:50. GUEST CHARACTERS •Kratos rides a Chariot drawn by two Pegasi’s. •Henry Cavill. Nuff Said. •Idunno…Tiny Tank™️? •Grampa Dave. He’s basically just Mr Magoo in a tricked out murder-truck he mistook for his own. His Special-Using voicelines include “thats not the windshield wipers” “oh I think i hit a deer” “learn to drive! (Darn kids…)” and even the rare “I cant go back, I WONT go back, y’hear?! I…uh, Wait…what was I…?” And the excessively rare: “F*ck the po-lice coming straight fromthe underground! Oh boy these new Boy Bands are f*cking hardcore!”
One thing I want to see is the customization from Twisted 12' to get a facelift. I like the idea of custom liveries, but I think this could be kicked up a notch, something like Motorstorm Apocalypse's customization where not only was there in depth livery customization but also unlockable parts from various feats like takedowns, drift distance etc. So the feats in Twisted Metal are pretty much anything you can think of, but broadly things like kills, killstreaks, nitro time, health % restored, etc.
As far as bringing in new characters, giving Drivers to Meat Wagon, Kamikaze, DeathWarrant, and Talon would be cool. It’d also be awesome to see obscure characters come back like Black, Mr Ash and Cage Edit: After watching the Lost Ending, Mr Ash had mad final boss energy
I'd love to see a modern version of Mr. Ash that always looks like how he did in his TM1 portrait. They couldn't do anything like that back then due to tech limitations, but imagine seeing this shadow of a guy stare down Calypso with those glaring red eyes.
I think a great way to have new characters is simply to give the cars without canon drivers a driver. All of the new cars in 2012 TM don't have drivers because of the faction system and the boss vehicles from 4 don't have drivers either. Since those were 1 time vehicles for the most part, they could still feel brand new. Come on, imagine what the drivers for Meat Wagon and Vermin could be like. Guest characters are tricky. There probably should be some in a new TM since it has been so long since the series was relevent and getting new players in is a must. But they would need to be characters flexable enough to fit in a car combat game and whatever tone the new game would go for. I think Undertaker and Kane might be the best bets since 1. Super 90s, you totally had a Kane shirt while playing TM on the PS1, 2. Their careers had a wide variety of darkness and goofy, so they could fit in a Black setting or a TM 2 setting, 3. They were in crush hour, so that's a fun call back. Outside of them, go for some hard rock/metal legends like Rob Zombie again or Slipnot and Ozzy Osborne. Online gaming has gotten more important lately. Fortnight (I can hear some groans) is a massive success, so we would need to emulate that game's constant support and actually functional online servers. Also, a variety of game modes outside of Death Match are probably needed. A capture the flag, that circle to stay inside of, maybe a destruction mode? What do you guys think?
The story fix so you don't have to play the story a bunch of times would be to shorten it to five levels depending on your character. Cutscene before the First level. A level with a boss and then a cutscene. Third would be a larger map with your "rival" aka counter pick as the last car. Fourth would be the lead up to a double boss like Ash and some new henchmen. Last would be a cutscene into the final level with the boss being Dark Tooth or another character that ends being warped/resurrected by Calypso depending on the character you choose. I want Holland to come back with the same color scheme come back.
What I would do would be giving the first four games the Smash Ultimate treatment. Every vehicle and every stage brought back but giving them new character endings. I would also probably make a "definitive edition" of Black which would include the Online version plus content from Lost like the levels from and 12-Pak and Gold Tooth with their own endings. Maybe people who bought the PS4 version of Black before its reveal would get a discount from buying it digitally or something to justify buying it again for the extra content.
At this point I'd be happy with just a straight up remaster of the first two games. Keep the stories , music , levels, and just hire a crew of graphic artist to bring the game from 480p to 4k
@@Dreeza68955 Nobody ever credits Twisted Metal 3 for having the best A.I. in a car combat game. How i used to love when i would die in a death match, the remaining cars would continue to fight each other and grabbing health to survive.. In all the rest they just all target you and it was always odd to me that this aspect took a step down from a 5th gen console game after. I also love doing powerslides with Thumper and despite its shortcomings loved the physics. I still prefer all of the Jaffe and Campbell made games but i still love TM3 .. 4 Eh not so much ..
@@Aeon2Flux Yeah, I so and don't like it. But they could fix that with a difficulty setting. Easy and medium the AI attacks each other and such. Than hard mode is classic "I'm coming for ya bitch" AI that also goes for health muahahahaha.
Honestly they could pull an MK Trilogy and give us a remaster where they pull certain characters, maps, and the such from all the different games. I mean at this point I'd take a greatest hits version of the game if it meant a revival. I mean this would open a can of worms within itself. What version of certain cars and drivers if they are a veteran. Like I'd rather Thumper from Head On for example. Which now that I think about it.....this is an interesting conversation to have all its own lol.
my wish list would be to have no flying vehicles cause they are too annoying and difficult to fight with normal cars, keep the speed and arcade like driving physics from black, having healing pads and health pick ups are nice, custom soundtrack, map creator, edit the cars paint job, mix in new and old maps, each character to have there own story and ending, i like the idea of getting a boost bonus from getting a kill, and for game modes like capture the flag, electric cage match, and honestly i can see a death race working if they made a map designed for it, team deathmatch, and domination could be cool. i would like for interactive and destructible enviroments that can be destroyed to just be destroyed or used as a short cut/trap kinda like in split second, as for weapon pick ups we gotta have the main 3 rockets, gas can, enviroment pickup, ricochet, swarmer, SAT, shotgun, remote bomb, machine gun upgrade and oil slick would be good to, i would also like to have random cars and civilians on the map as well, and as for the stories tone i would love it to be a mix of tm2 head on and black and i think the game would look cool if it went back to the comic book style or the flash back/still images like tm black. i would also like for ramming cars to be more of a strat to use like using heavier vehicles should do more ramming damage and ramming while using boost should give ya an extra damage boost.
I'd like to add a little to the wish-list; 1) Endings could be altered based on the difficulty you play on. On Easy mode, Calypso corrupts your wish and does you dirty as he's done many times in the past. On Medium, you get your wish but it's not quite what you wanted. Like "I go back in time to save someone." and you save them but you lose someone else as a result. On Hard, they get their happy ending as they had imagined it. 2) A rogue-lite element, if only specific to the campaign/single player, aspects where you can get upgrades for your weapons and vehicle as you progress. Damage, kills, destruction could lend towards money where taking inevitable damage will eat up those rewards between levels. Instead of having multiple missile pick-ups, there'd be just the one ammo and however you upgraded your missiles would alter how they behave. Homing, Damage, Armor piercing and other special effects as well as stuff like multiple missiles shot per volley. Character/car specific upgrades and limitations on those upgrades would work fine too. Like Axel but with spikes. Ramming additions. 3) I imagine 4 vehicle archetypes for the roster. -Military vehicles. Slow, heavily armored, able to take a lot of damage but can't avoid it and can do a lot of damage. -Sports cars and the like. Very fast and able to avoid most missiles and damage but are easy to destroy if pinned, cornered, ect. -Average cars that have been heavily altered for combat. SUVs, Campers, Pick-up Trucks, Cop Car, ect. -Novelty cars. Ice-cream truck, Motorcycle, Fire Truck, ect. 4) Levels could be a 3 stage event sort of like the Deathmatch style the games use already. Easy stage could be hosted by one of the main characters so someone like Warthog would host a Military Base. Thumper would be in the Ghetto. A city level for Outlaw. Ect. The first part would just be to shave some health off of you, let you drive around and get to know the area or collect power-ups and ammo with NPC vehicles and nameless drivers to die easy. The second part could have some niche objective, a gimmick stage where you need to avoid damage or something that doesn't require you to destroy all your opponents to process, or a major alternation to the existing landscape. (Flooding, Earthquake, a major evacuation where people flood the stage and stampede across the level, get killed absorbing projectiles, ect.) The third part would include the "Host" as a kind of mini boss that is mostly untargeted by the other AI and be much more of a problem for you to destroy or be under constant harassment by. Stuff like micro-transactions, loot boxes and all those things "triple A" titles have that ruin them would need to be excluded absolutely. And considering the game hasn't had a proper release in a long time I would be very cautious with how the title was developed before I would consider buying it... which is probably why there hasn't been one made. Investors would want the things that ruin the game to be in it to recoup potential lost revenue developing the game.
The new twisted metal should continue after Head-On and Black. Maybe they should continue finishing Harbor City. If they want to have elements from the cancellled Revolution game by having a organization or empire that is so to street culture and Hip-Hop Culture against how Sweet Tooth and the current roster is inspired by 80’s rock music. I would like to see that gta feel where Vice City had that 80’s drug cartel flash music, and San Andreas having 90’s hip hop gangster vibes in the new twisted metal with rock and roll and hip hop. The theme could even be about change how times, people, culture, and popularity. The title could be called Twisted Metal Black: Resurgence. They can improve the gameplay mechanics that David Jaffe mentioned in the documentary in Head-On. And I wouldn’t mind if they added every single stage from previous stages or characters as the Twisted Metal Ultimate. Or they can remaster Twisted Metal 1, 2, Head-On, and Black similar to Crash Bandicoot: N. sane trilogy and Tony Hawk 1+2. And remake TM3 and TM4.
Calypso back in the nuke mobile. Maybe have him back as a final boss being extremely difficult. Imagine being blown up by a nuke and hear calypso laugh.
this reminds me of then i was a kid playing TM2 and wanting to be a game dev and create the next one, I was thinking ahead too that games would look real by the time I was older and that direction physics would become believable. And it's all true now. I just wish TM didn't die out
I would enjoy the return of single-character storylines. Stuff that isn't some overarching theme where all the characters converge story-lines near the end before steering off. The morbid tone of black was still my favorite, same with most of the character's interests. While still having the mysterious tone for calypso, every character had a rather unique setup to their endings, even if they in almost all the "bad" cases, where just "Revenge". The idea that many of the characters would turn out either dead or the way they end up in the story anyway ends up feeling a little more interesting for the whole storylines of it. and most of the characters felt actually like concerning individuals who if they won, would not be a good thing to be loose on the world, which fit the theme of twisted metal more than alot of the other games do. That aside, i wouldn't mind mini-game style missions to continue, but i think i'd like to see them less as a "main focus" and more of a "benefit for doing it" role. In example, a KOTH mode, where you're supposed to take over an area, and so long as your KOTH, you get health recharge, or your weapons will slowly refill so you always have a use of different ones. Or a "Tag" mode where you're supposed to ram into certain opponents who are "it" and upon doing so you become "it" and while you're it you are the main focus, but your weapons do significantly more damage, etc. etc.
All of the contestants have been usually American with a few other worldly and a British in TM3. I think more nationalities for a world tour would give variety to characters, their vehicles and back stories. I enjoy the story elements. Calypso character being something akin to a djenn, where victors who are not careful with their words will unforseen consequences to their wish because if Calypso can twist the meaning of the words in anyway, he will.
The best way to do story is character campaigns for 8-10 characters that are different. Fighting non-playable generic enemies based on level who work for bosses or other characters. Unlockable characters from past games for online/multiplayer games. No paywalls like modern fighting games have or where you buy characters.
for me its very simple. Keep the fast paced gameplay similar to Twisted metal 2012 along with the story structure of Twisted metal 2. better online and DLC for stages and characters. and it would be an easy buy for me.
I would love different unlockable skins for each vehicle. Like if you want to play as TM3 Sweet Tooth, Black Mr Grimm, etc etc. A soft body damage like Carmageddon Max Damage would be awesome as well. No reason in 2022 to not have that in a vehicle combat game.
One thing that could really help is if they did a reboot set with the Black universe that either followed a similar structure to the “lost” Twisted Metal Harbor City, complete with walking combat sections & an Open World where you can choose your Events as your drive around or get into impromptu battles with other contestants wandering around the City. Even though David Jaffe debunked the Minion theories and the concept of multiverses by saying that he wrote the coded messages as a workaround when he had the flu and didn’t want to think too hard about a plot & resolution for Minion…it still opens the door for it to be confirmed if they lean more into the idea that the Black timeline isn’t just in Sweet Tooth’s mind but in actuality is a Universe he created as a result of a prior victory in a Twisted Metal tournament. The idea that we could revisit or even use other past versions of characters (and even introduce previous characters that were scrapped like Granny Dread in TM2) would be something incredible and fun to see. Edit: just thought of this: the ability to have a story with a Create-A-Character (along with the normal Story with each character/driver) that branches off of your dialogue choices or based on whoever was killed in a level dictating future levels and enemy drivers. To make this more doable, refer to the idea of a Twisted Metal Multiverse; whenever you win, you basically drastically change the timeline you’re in and can create some nightmare scenarios merely by winning/surviving in certain maps! To make it easier to explain, I came up with this setup: Basically, your Create-A-Character was in traffic and gets trapped in the city/map on the day and time that a Twisted Metal tournament bout is happening (either the opening match or a Finals bout) and having had enough of Calypso’s tournament…you interfere by defending yourself and inadvertently become a contestant (or the winner). From there, you’re forced by Calypso to make it through to the end (or a whole new tournament?) to get your wish of ending it altogether, which also means training for a whole year (or becoming the target of some contestants on your way between matches) to make it out alive. Where does the Multiverse take effect? Well, because Calypso is practically a Demi-God/General of Hell with limitless magic powers…some maps/levels become Period Pieces and for everything that happens in a level (e.g. 1920s Chicago and your accidental game-ending of Al Capone or The Untouchables)…it causes a ripple effect and either creates a worse future accumulatively or even a flat out Post-Apocalyptic one you must win at all costs to advert. This would even work as a means to incorporate different versions of drivers from different games like a grown-up Billy Calypso or Sweet Tooth from Small Brawl, Mr. Grimm/ST/Dollface from 2012’s TM, Raven/Bloody Mary/Billy Ray from Black, and so on. I think it would be an excellent way for them to reincorporate the concepts from all the canceled/unproduced ideas for TM games they’ve had after Harbor City (like the Midnight Club inspired one & Apocalypse) while elevating the lore of older games into a compelling saga in its own right. This franchise is RICH with great lore and story beats!
I’d be okay with a linear story in a new Twisted Metal with multiple characters since switching between them from one chapter to another would work for me since I wouldn’t have to memorize button combinations.
It's really cool seeing a channel so dedicated to a game genre (and game franchise) that I really love and that's so forgotten nowadays. And your videos are really good. You, sir, got a new subscription.
Dude, with the idea of getting a chain of something to boost your power, if you combine it with the NPC idea, it could be like... Every 10 killed you get just a simple power boost, 20 without any damage gets you a homing missile that kills, 30 you get an airstrike that takes out your biggest competitor... Or something like that lol
Weapons: Machine Gun Mods/ammo types. •Lower RoF w/ Higher Damage per shot, •higher RoF with lower damage per •heat rounds that rewards good accuracy by setting the opponent ablaze. •Armor Piercer that increases damage the longer you lay on but multiplier cools down if the target can prevent enough hits for a moment. For Tactical Use: •Flare Gun. Barely any damage, but is a nuissance to the target as it just paints him on the minimap and makes him super visible to the eye from distances. Potentially flammable if hitting or activating Oil Slick and such. Makes Homing weapons more effective. Can be used to shake Homing tech by using it like a decoy.
Definitely make the story campy like how the first one was, I love the real cutscenes from TM 1 and 2012, don't make it to cinematic but make it look like a direct to tv movie
2:27 I believe you meant to say asymmetrical here. Isometric is the view perspective from above at an angle, like classic cRPGs. That said as someone who found this video recently, and only recently played the first two games you love so much thanks to PSN, I can say three things I'd love to see in a new game. 1) The story mode, but with some very minor progression throughout. Like you're working your way up the contest ladder, and are allowed to add things to your car from a list of upgrades after every level. Some will be general, like ablative armor that tanks some random damage values before it pops off, a third machine gun to boost damage/fire rate/etc. Some will be specific for the car you're in, like a bonus effect for the special, great control while driving, etc. That way each playthru has some minor variations, especially if the enemies on harder difficulties get them too. 2) More...I'm going to say 'wacky' cheat codes. The ones from this series tend towards just the general infinite ammo, extra lives, etc, etc. Give me some fun stuff though. Moon bounce stuff, flying cars, tiny cars to make a level gigantic. Or giant cars to make a level cramped. Just some shenanigan stuff to have fun with. 3) Bring back 4's custom car, but give even more options. Maybe even a point buy system, and then give the player a wish at the end that lets them make their custom car even stronger, slowly but surely, over a few playthrus. I like my progression, and this would be a good way to tie it all back in that this is a YEARLY contest, and you can come back next year for even MORE power.
A Decoy or Intercepting missile type could make a cool weapon. It could be made purely defensive to destroy projectiles (Intercept weapon) or more well rounded with some fire damage in a short range (Decoy Flare).
That would be fun. Like a little black hole that pulls in some missiles or a zone you can drop that blows up all missiles so you would have to be kind of like a melee car. You could do so much with that idea
Twisted metal but every one is here and some cut character from other twisted metals and it celebrate all the games both good and bad and costumes for all the characters that reference past game
10:59, that's a must, TM1, TM2 and TM Black had those, The Blimp in TM3 and The Oil Rig in TM4 don't count since they don't have that vertigo feeling since tons of barriers protect the players from falling to their deaths, Tree Top Rumble in TM SB kinda counts, but players can only fall to their demises if they take the exterior side, Tokyo Rooftops in TM Head On and some battlegrounds in the 2012 title are fine, but gameplay allows players to fall off multiple times before really dying
to make weapons feel more unique why not try adding random spawning elements kinda like ratchet deadlock. the effects they could provide could be very tiny so that you dont feel forced to need them.
1. ALL Game's on a single console. 1-A. Could be done with the release of new game. 2. Create custom car's and attacks (Like in TM4) 3. Bring back All old map's and Car's. 3-A. Could be done as bonus map's for beating the game (Like in TM4). 3-B. Could also be done with Boss car's and custom parts for Custom created car's and Weapons. 3-C. Would give incentive to play the Story Mode, maybe even having to beat it with all Main Story Cars 4. OFFLINE PLAYABILITY (My most wanted feature)(At least for the older game's) 5. Have the following setting's: Easy, Medium, Hard, Insane, Survival (For each difficulty) 5-A. It would allow all players with different skill set's to play and get better or just relax and play. 6. I like the idea of different Environmental Attack's. Not 100% sure about the weather. Other notes and Thoughts 1. Oil Slick was fun 2. Destructible building are cool 3. Roof top battle are fun 4. Sweet Tooth Minion as playable Cool 5. Guest Star appearances are cool (I would pay to have my character as a playable) 6. Is my favorite number
"My name is Calypso, and I thank you for playing Twisted Metal" My main thing I want More Lore heavy bits, like Cutscenes that reference previous in Universe Contests
Just found your channel. So late to this party. Been a big twisted metal fan since I first played TM2 (far to young if I'm honest) I agree with what you've said mainly here, as you said it's opinion, not there to be argued with. I all so loved Rogue Trip vacation 2012. Somthing I'd love is those characters back. There a bit weird but I think I got this covered. Have Ozone from it Unlockable some how. Then I see his ending as (in my head its head on style so that Calypso in that place) Ozone screams in at stupidly high speed, hits a wall of tires, flies threw the wind screen. Lands at Calypsos feet. Bit of filler. His wish, simple, to be able to play with his friends. The idea being there imaginary, one of the few times someone gets what they want, works on Calypsos favour after all, more competitors. Bring the cast of rogue trip in that way and it opens the door to a few of the weirder characters coming in, example, you said Kratos.
I'd like to see Twisted Metal pull a Smash Bros and bring back every unique car that's ever competed with a few new faces and DLC add-ons for later characters
I agree with almost all of your list - especially with keeping the tone like TM2. Although in terms of story, I really wish they would move away from Sweet Tooth as the primary focus. The roster is full of so many fun characters that they could flesh out instead. He was basically the series mascot by TM3, but I don't find the Marcus/Needles stuff particularly interesting at this point. That maybe an unpopular opinion, I don't know. I do think it would be exciting if they explored more characters relationships to each other, like some contestants having grudges against Calypso for various reasons (Outlaw, Crimson Fury, Minion etc). Even reverse it and introduce a hardcore Calypso fan who wishes to marry him if they win or something. The level design of 2 was pretty much perfect. The tournament should be something that terrorizes the locals and has plenty of iconic architecture. Building on that with more destructible levels would be awesome. In terms of DLC, I'd rather they keep additional levels/characters free, and paid DLC could be additional, in-depth story content like 2012 attempted. The most essential thing would be building on the gameplay and arcade style of 1/2/Head-on, and definitely undoing the way-too-fast combat. Great video!
I think it should return to the classic formula with all the characters, but continue 2012’s storyline. I think it’d be really cool if you had Charlie Kane (Son and Successor of Needles in 2012) driving as the new Sweet Tooth driver, while having a rivalry with his sister Sophie Kane who would probably act like Calypso’s lieutenants (seems like that’s what they were going with in 2012). Imagine if you beat both of their storylines, you unlock Dark Tooth and it’s driven by the vengeful spirit of Needles, that’d be pretty cool.
Cross-platform and cross-play I think would be nice additions to a new twisted metal game with the option to enable or disable it in the options settings. A level design editor and modding tools as well so people can make new levels or character/vehicle reskins and publish them to the Steam Workshop, Nexus mods, ModDB, or GameBanana. Allow players to make a custom soundtrack or use ones from pre-existing games. Use of real-world locations you can select in a level selector like Las Vegas, Dallas, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, Little Rock, San Diego, Santa Fe, Denver, Chicago, Miami, etc, and even some international places like Berlin, Warsaw, Prague, Dublin, London, Edinburgh, Kyoto, Shanghai, Hanoi, Dubai, etc.
I would like something ong the lines of a twisted derby. It's the same free-for-all but ur car can fall apart like ur wheels and such making u rly stay on edge to stay alive
1. Wild Maps, like TM4 there was the bedroom map also the circus map was cool. 2. Bring back fan favorites but we need new characters. There is no TM without sweet tooth. 3. Customizeable cars and weapons. 4. Stable online GP 5. CONTROLS THAT ARENT CLUNKY AF. Im hoping they make a reboot for ps5 soon. I started playing video games in the 90s so i seen the whole evolution of gaming and graphics. Really would be exciting to see what developers could do with it now. I did read the creator of TM said he probaly wouldnt remake the game due to there is "nothing more to see or do." Hopefully the tv series with Anthony Mackey goes well and they get the go ahead for a full on next gen console game.
I want a create your own character mode much like Twisted Metal 4 but more fleshed out and the ability to create your own endings (or better yet, YOU get to tell Calypso your wish via microphone). Also, I want some maps situated in either Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Bourbon Street, or The Superdome
With the teams idea that is interesting maybe throughout the story branching pathways can determine certain characters fates for example choose a speach option while playing as Marcus and maybe someone else becomes sweet tooth
Id love to see alternative ending having to do some challenge or challenges and you get a funny/"win" or maybe just a dark ending maybe you have to grab hidden in game lore bits that are characters special or just make it balls hard and have the player have to do a flawless playthrough either no deaths or beat the campaign under a set time limit
Sorry but I vehemently disagree with ditching racing. I think a mode for racing definitely has potential. Just think of Twisted Metal as a reverse Mario Kart where instead of it being a racing game with a secondary feature for Battle Modes, it’s a Battle Mode game with a secondary feature for Racing. It works.
Even with how different the series are, I feel like there are modes in Carmageddon: Reincarnation and Max Damage that would do well in Twisted Metal. The race mode there had a twist on it, that you could wreck and enemy that had completed a lap in order to "steal" a lap from them. This meant you could just wreck anyone else that was completing laps and win that way. Fox N' Hounds would translate most easily though, where one player just had to survive while other players targeted them. Hitting them made you the target and the goal was just to be the target for the longest. I just don't know how well those would translate to the more weaponized vehicles of TM. Fox n' Hounds could work if you made it so only ramming or destroying your opponent stole their status as the target, but the race mode would be harder to translate to a game that's more about projectiles than collisions.
I missed this video when it was released a few months back. But I'll copy over this suggestion I posted elsewhere, using the Age of Empires franchise as an analogy for creativity and strategy for the TM games in a way that does _not_ push it to stray from its traditional core: namely, in the AOE game franchise, which is an RTS of course, each empire gets a unique unit (like a special weapon in TM), but the uniqueness in AOE is tailored beyond this. Consider how each empire gets a unique set of buffs, whether it's in a certain kind of resource gathering, technology research, fighting ability... Now, here's my analogy applied to TM: use an equivalent perk and feats system with each vehicle vis-à-vis their ammo pickup, energy usage abilities, shield features, etc. tailored to their character. You could, say, give Grasshopper a 100% increase in jump height whenever you use the jump energy ability. You could decrease Mr. Grimm's energy consumption when using Freeze by 10% (since the CPU version of him in TM2 abused the hell out of that ability), a perk for Thumper could be an increase to all ignition damage dealt from standard weapons that produce this effect by 20% (a la napalm, since he throws fire as a special), give Twister a shield perk that spins (i.e., reflects) a weapon back at an opponent that contrasts with the basic damage-absorbing shield everyone uses... Those sorts of things could add depth to the gameplay by increasing the strategy of using a particular vehicle that doesn't just reduce to differences of handling, speed, mass and the like (though it should certainly retain those aspects). And most of all, it wouldn't require subverting or deviating from the established formula of the previous successful entries one bit. Beyond this, ramming damage is a MUST. The large vehicles in general should be made to be intimidating to face off against up close versus smaller vehicles. The smaller vehicles already were way too easy to abuse in terms of ammo pick-up access advantages and maneuvering superiority such that they could flaunt these advantages in harassment of the larger vehicles, such that the former would zoom in, in a drive by fire a volley of weapons into the latter, only to zoom out before rinsing and repeating while the large vehicle has to turtle around not getting the pick ups while just absorbing damage. I actually think TM installments from the OG developer handled this well. Though I think larger vehicles could be strategically justified in sporting heavier machine guns and/or getting more from pickups they are able to obtain. That said, they _should definitely_ still retain the safeties for Grasshopper and Twister they implemented in _Head-On_ for their specials which were absent from TM2, where it was absolutely ridiculous that those two vehicles could actually end up taking more damage simply in the course of utilizing their special weaponry against an opponent. For instance, often Grasshopper might take ramming damage even though _she_ was the vehicle doing the ramming _by design._ Likewise in TM2, not only could vehicles caught up in Twister's special still discharge their weapons against her, effectively leaving her as a punching bag in the course of using her own special, if they made contact with her during that special _she_ often received the impact damage! Again that kind of imbalance is absurd and often compromised any purpose to their respective specials; and I'm happy they fixed this issue in _Head-On._ Also, I sometimes wonder: what about defensive flares? I would only want it if they could be organically worked into the gameplay, and they genuinely added strategic depth to the firefight in a way that doesn't risk making the experience potentially grindy to the player, but is also not gimmicky either. Perhaps could even be a way to give resilience and balance to the larger vehicles who could have a larger supply of them to disrupt the drive-by onslaught of missiles from faster, more maneuverable vehicles? Just a thought.
Twisted Metal only needs a few "small" tweaks to be a nearly _perfect_ game: - Return to strictly land-based vehicles for PvP battles (only bosses fly/float). - Include a Map/Arena Editor so modders can expand the virtual battle-field. - Vehicle destruction should be kept cosmetic to promote fast-paced and unpredictable fights. - Keep driver/passenger co-op for solo and MP. - Drivers can invade and compete in another driver's game to gain rewards. - Modernize the vehicle roster to include Cybertrucks, Ural M-67 AWD, SHERPs, КамАЗ-4326, Sesspir's, etc. - Place it all in a violent, war-torn post-apocalyptic (but realistically rendered) world, some of us might actually recognize. ...then marvel when I buy two copies, because it's just _that_ good!
Spiderman riding the Spider-Buggy would be hilarious. So yeah sure. Bring in Spiderman. Or maybe Spider-Cop can be Outlaw's driver this time around. XD
I'd like to expand on the idea of being able to somehow super charge an attack with a build up of pick ups. I always found every game had a weapon or 2 that I rarely used due to its difficulty of use or just because I got more drops for it than I found uses. Imagine if instead of ending up with a stockpile of your least fav weapon type, it instead became a new weapon type after a certain amount had been collected that would make it worth using and help clear out your excess ammo. This way you don't need to remove redundant weapons like the swarm missiles and instead if you collect say 10 homing missiles it turns into swarm missiles that then fire all at once for a super attack. Suck at aiming napalm? well now that you have a bunch, it turns into a barrage of fire you can rain from the sky. Not getting enough opportunities for the sniper? well now its a high powered gauss rifle! I've always felt like this would fix so many things I have issues with. anyway, great vid!
I would love to see a mixture of TMB and Vigilante 8. Both of those games need reboots or some sort of revisit. I also liked the sneak peek type stuff in TMB where they worked on being out of the car to do some tasks.
I like the stories though :( It's like the main thing about the series and the different wishes. It would be like taking out the pychopaths from Dead rising, the main factor that makes the game series unique.
A little late here but, One thing I'd really like to see, since it basically amounted to being the actual TM3, some of the drivers from Rogue Trip. Particularly, Meat Wagon's Dick could essentially be a copycat killer who is trying to be like Needles but had access to a Weinermobile instead of an ice cream van so he decided to roll with it. I can't imagine it being hard to get a hold of the rights to those characters.
I think costumes would be cool. Imagine being able to chose between the designs of different characters. Do you want to play as black version, 2, small brawl. Of course some of them would have to change. Think minion who’s not had a consistent design in any of the games. But maybe you could have the designs emulate other ones. So if say minions car in the new game looks like his tank from 2 then the other skins could fit that mold but have a new mesh or pain job to look like say 3 or something. Just an idea. I like it in mortal kombat how each character can look like various incarnations of themselves. And hey, if you really want to emulate mortal kombat in that regard, in that game some skins yielded new secret dialogue. So there’s a lot you could do. Imagine twisted metal 3 sweet tooth interacting with his black counterpart. Or 2s grim and 2012s grim. Etc, etc.
Another cool detail would be if you attack someone with very low health using your special move (sweet tooth Mecha) it makes an eliminación like: sweet tooth burning alive the driver with a flamethrower, and a DLC with immortal Joe from Mad max
They need characters back Calypso and ending movies with wishes in tow. Good levels, classic arcade fun. This is all they need to do. Maybe throw in fun car physics.
My definitive new Twisted Metal game wishlist:
1. a new Twisted Metal game
The Mad Clown, Needles Kane, will return someday. Maybe not now, but he will in the future.
Considering there's a TV show coming out, there might be a new game coming out as well.
I love TM but I'd rather have no new game than have EA involved. Otherwise bring on the carnage!
I need to look through your videos to see if you covered Twisted Metal 2012, but I adored playing that and even making custom skins for my car.
I also would love to see a TM game on the Switch.
Twisted metal head on did that. It had the fantastical side and the gritty side. I’m talking about the “lost” game mode.
@@veissra4047 I would love to see Thumper, Pit Viper and an old school HammerHead make a come back.
7:00 In some cases, Depending on where the level is, the civilian aggression could be default higher (Chicago, LA, Texas, a military town…). Also in some cases, the civilians only get more and more angry the more damage you cause or the longer the match goes on.
Yeah civs fighting back to stop the cars would be pretty fun especially if they're good at taking health down
What I'd really love is for Harbor City to be finished.
@@TheLyingFigure If the handling is good then it would be a dream
@YRU Triggered? Yes but with the addition of being able to leave your car and talk to peds or something like that...
Noted.
I love the idea of character interactions
I also had a train boss idea, and it was Preacher boss form (The Last Testament)
The mining dump truck idea got me thinking of having Bagger 288 being the final boss, like that scene from Ghost Rider.
use the original concept for peacemeal and have be the final boss, being comprissed of all th eprevously defeated opponents and spliting into pieces
Simply, I would just want TM 2012 gameplay and TM Black story structure
More detailed:
Love the classic levels idea. Maybe after each level you complete, you pick either a classic or new stage
If there is a single narrative, I like the idea of a team Calypso vs team SweetTooth story.
2012 sucked because of the in battle challenges and races.. Horrible boss battles that didn't feel like boss battles, and only 3 characters.
@@andrewverrett568whine all you want
Tonally i'd love something more in line with Black, and sticking with each car having its own individual character over what 2012 did.
Twisted Metal Battle of The Bands: Every character is a band themed car and drivers are the band members. ACDC, Kiss, Rob Zombie, Metallica, Avenge Seven Fold, Green Day are just some of the possibles.
Kratos could have a crazy special like swinging around the blades of chaos all around his car
I love this narrative dissection! TMB is one of my all-time favorite couch coop games. The series is often overlooked compared to other Sony franchises. Would love to see Jaffe come back for another dark take on the tournament.
Here's me throwing my few cents in the twisted metal wishlist
1. The whole roster of TM4, Black, Head on (since it has most if not all the twisted metal 2) and 2012 (each car being its own character) (not to forget ma boy club kid)
2. Every great stage from Black, 2012, Head on and TM4
3. Have a story mode somewhere closer to Black(not all the way black, have each character be broken in by something bad)
4. I like boss fights (but not as extravagant as Iron Maiden... Nope, but something along the lines of TM1 minion, Primeval, TM head on Dark tooth etc). (and they be playable once you beat them)
5. I loved the idea of each character special having 2 or 3 differnt modes
6. As much as i liked keypad combos to itse special attacks such as freeze, shield, invis etc, i liked 2012's take of it (i wouldn't mind that version)
7. A challenge which unlocks say an even meaner alt version of characters
Say to unlock Infernal Roadkill, kill xx targets with your special while burning or something (adds replayability)
8. While i like the idea of each driver dropping an upgrade, make boss fights challenging based on how buffed you are
9. A tiny smidge of visual customisation would be nice (liveries, paints, body kits etc.)
10. Create a car (from TM4)
But more special abilities unlock for you to choose allowing you to make endless number of builds (eg : I cleared the base campaign with 3 unique characters and now i have a fire based special unlocked, which i can purchase and change as i see fit)
(Change build by changing chassis, engine, armor levels and body kit, so you can go from pint sized hard to hit, mega hard hitting glass cannon to a absolute juggernaut who can freeze and stomp our opposition (inspired by Armored Core 6)
11. A balance which allows every character some level of viability (but make specter the absolute cheeze magnet or grimm as the hard hitting glass cannon etc.)
Twisted Metal cars with airsoft guns right now. Thanks.
Also yes I would also love a despicably horrifying TM game.
Even if it's as simple as alternate colours or skins that make it so if you do fight them more than once it's not exactly the same
An arcade mode and story mode would be brilliant.
1 smash ultimate style roster
2 campaign that is a combination of what twisted metal lost was going to be a normal demo derby tm gameplay and mk style storytelling
3 noob friendly
4 map creator
5 Calypso as a secret character
6 make the story and world semi realistic a combination of tm2 world and tm black world
7 alignments like in tm4
8 hammerhead getting a good ending this time
9 character skins and alternate voices for some skins
10 every surviving member of the Kane family I liked the idea of Marcus being needles brother more than him being a split personality and bring some back too as a passenger for yellowjacket
For Guest Stars in a future Twisted Metal Game, I felt like Jack Cayman from MadWorld would be a good pick because well, you know what I mean.
Whether making a game or movie, they should take inspiration from things like Death Race and Ghost Rider. I feel like Death Race is just PERFECT as a modern reference and the Ghost Rider movies, especially the second one, really bring that grimdark feeling to death and carnage.
Man, that second Ghost Rider film.
It was definitely from the director that made the CRANK films and that show called HAPPY!
18:50. GUEST CHARACTERS
•Kratos rides a Chariot drawn by two Pegasi’s.
Max Rokatanski 👀👀
It’d also be awesome to see obscure characters come back like Black, Mr Ash and Cage
Edit: After watching the Lost Ending, Mr Ash had mad final boss energy
I'd love to see a modern version of Mr. Ash that always looks like how he did in his TM1 portrait. They couldn't do anything like that back then due to tech limitations, but imagine seeing this shadow of a guy stare down Calypso with those glaring red eyes.
TM 4 had custom character creation... I need that back.
Ratchet could make a great guest character. I mean he was already a guest character in Jak X. Imagine the kind of crazy scifi car he could have.
If the final boss is Minion, maybe have it be where Calypso will send him to hell for real this time
And if Minion wins, he is sent to Hell Norway
What I would do would be giving the first four games the Smash Ultimate treatment. Every vehicle and every stage brought back but giving them new character endings. I would also probably make a "definitive edition" of Black which would include the Online version plus content from Lost like the levels from and 12-Pak and Gold Tooth with their own endings. Maybe people who bought the PS4 version of Black before its reveal would get a discount from buying it digitally or something to justify buying it again for the extra content.
I think the 989 type of games would work today because they were ahead of the time back then.
At this point I'd be happy with just a straight up remaster of the first two games. Keep the stories , music , levels, and just hire a crew of graphic artist to bring the game from 480p to 4k
I say remaster all the ps1 games. Tm3 &4 weren't great but they had enough redeeming elements I think they could use a remaster. Fix all the issues.
I'd like to add a little to the wish-list;
1) Endings could be altered based on the difficulty you play on.
(Flooding, Earthquake, a major evacuation where people flood the stage and stampede across the level, get killed absorbing projectiles, ect.)
The third part would include the "Host" as a kind of mini boss that is mostly untargeted by the other AI and be much more of a problem for you to destroy or be under constant harassment by.
Your intro always makes me hungry
this reminds me of then i was a kid playing TM2 and wanting to be a game dev and create the next one, I was thinking ahead too that games would look real by the time I was older and that direction physics would become believable.
Maybe a Filipino Contestant for a future Twisted Metal game? I felt like we need more Pinoy representation in Video Games.
@@maxleon61702 Maybe a faithful adaptation of Starship Troopers for once. That would be one that comes to mind. Either game for film.
Yep.
Keep going I love these twisted metal vids you give so much depth
To make it easier to explain, I came up with this setup:
Basically, your Create-A-Character was in traffic and gets trapped in the city/map on the day and time that a Twisted Metal tournament bout is happening (either the opening match or a Finals bout) and having had enough of Calypso’s tournament…you interfere by defending yourself and inadvertently become a contestant (or the winner).
Man I really liked your wishlist. In particular the guest and the Calypso squad, it would be great
Dude, with the idea of getting a chain of something to boost your power, if you combine it with the NPC idea, it could be like... Every 10 killed you get just a simple power boost, 20 without any damage gets you a homing missile that kills, 30 you get an airstrike that takes out your biggest competitor... Or something like that lol
Weapons: Machine Gun Mods/ammo types. •Lower RoF w/ Higher Damage per shot, •higher RoF with lower damage per
•heat rounds that rewards good accuracy by setting the opponent ablaze.
•Armor Piercer that increases damage the longer you lay on but multiplier cools down if the target can prevent enough hits for a moment.
For Tactical Use:
•Flare Gun.
16:25 Mr. Grimm looks like DC’s Lobo
Definitely make the story campy like how the first one was, I love the real cutscenes from TM 1 and 2012, don't make it to cinematic but make it look like a direct to tv movie
2:27
I believe you meant to say asymmetrical here.
OMG the spider buggy rides again! Also ur match events like a volcano that might go off, reminds me of City Trial mode in Kirby's Airride.
2 different players per vehicle: one drives and fires machine guns, one fires special weapons
1. ALL Game's on a single console.
1-A. Could be done with the release of new game.
2. Create custom car's and attacks (Like in TM4)
3. Bring back All old map's and Car's.
3-A. Could be done as bonus map's for beating the game (Like in TM4).
3-B. Could also be done with Boss car's and custom parts for Custom created car's and Weapons.
3-C. Would give incentive to play the Story Mode, maybe even having to beat it with all Main Story Cars
4. OFFLINE PLAYABILITY (My most wanted feature)(At least for the older game's)
5. Have the following setting's: Easy, Medium, Hard, Insane, Survival (For each difficulty)
5-A. It would allow all players with different skill set's to play and get better or just relax and play.
6. I like the idea of different Environmental Attack's. Not 100% sure about the weather.
Other notes and Thoughts
1. Oil Slick was fun
2. Destructible building are cool
3. Roof top battle are fun
4. Sweet Tooth Minion as playable Cool
5. Guest Star appearances are cool (I would pay to have my character as a playable)
6. Is my favorite number
At this point, a new Twisted Metal game is about the only thing that could possibly get me interested in buying a PS5.
"My name is Calypso, and I thank you for playing Twisted Metal"
My main thing I want
More Lore heavy bits, like Cutscenes that reference previous in Universe Contests
Then I see his ending as (in my head its head on style so that Calypso in that place)
Ozone screams in at stupidly high speed, hits a wall of tires, flies threw the wind screen.
That Maximum Overdrive bit was nice!
one gameplay wish: having the option to either have a PROPER free for all or having the usual "all AI targets you"
I would like something ong the lines of a twisted derby.
4. Stable online GP
I hope if Twisted Metal is reserrected in any cpacity, that Mel McMurrin is brought back as the vioce of Calypso. He was the best Calypso.
It works.
I'd pay $60 for a collection of Twisted Metal games. All of them.
Including Small Brawl (say what you want, it's really fun)
I feel like DC guest villains would fit perfectly in these games. Especially since how they all have vehicles of their own throughout the years
Even with how different the series are, I feel like there are modes in Carmageddon: Reincarnation and Max Damage that would do well in Twisted Metal.
Again that kind of imbalance is absurd and often compromised any purpose to their respective specials; and I'm happy they fixed this issue in _Head-On._
Also, I sometimes wonder: what about defensive flares? I would only want it if they could be organically worked into the gameplay, and they genuinely added strategic depth to the firefight in a way that doesn't risk making the experience potentially grindy to the player, but is also not gimmicky either. Perhaps could even be a way to give resilience and balance to the larger vehicles who could have a larger supply of them to disrupt the drive-by onslaught of missiles from faster, more maneuverable vehicles? Just a thought.
One word, Customization.
Custom tracks, driver, weather hazards, weapons pickups, and ultimately an in-depth Customization of your car.
Twisted Metal only needs a few "small" tweaks to be a nearly _perfect_ game:
- Return to strictly land-based vehicles for PvP battles (only bosses fly/float).
XD
I like the Twisted Metal 2 ending of Minion where he wants his powers back from Calypso
One thing that is needed above all is the involvement of David Jaffe.
A little late here but,
One thing I'd really like to see, since it basically amounted to being the actual TM3, some of the drivers from Rogue Trip.
Bro I didn't even finish the video yet and I totally agree..
For the die hard fans of the game, you said it all!! Hope the develops hear ya man.
They need characters back Calypso and ending movies with wishes in tow.
Good levels, classic arcade fun.
This is all they need to do. Maybe throw in fun car physics.
