Women in 40k can be the rulers of worlds, captains of star ships, princeps of titans or generals of armies characters like Lutara and Celestine are favorites among the community. Having a male faction is not sexist.
One of my favorite things about 40k lore is that the gender of the saroritas is almost never given significance to the story or characters. You don’t get any of those cliche moments where arrogant men under estimate them for being women and then get proven wrong. People don’t care that they are female because they are too busy being scared shitless of them.
@@deltaturnip9247 you are correct he is much worse. His imperium creates hundreds of times more suffering than any chaos faction. If you want to analyze him personally an aeldar that came to earth stated his soul looked like a void whale and the chaos gods razor sharks circling him.
It's subjective both ways. If the Emperor was alive though, Imperium of Man would just be the objectively correct faction. Thank goodness for the universe and story he isn't.
@@secondarytrollaccount666 "Such power made Lhaerial’s mind reel, and for a moment her contempt for the creatures of Terra wavered. The mind of the Emperor was a mountain in the surging madness of the Othersea, blinding in its brilliance. The Great Powers circled this place like razorshark waiting out the death throes of a void-whale. That terrible presence held them back, and all His little servants were ignorant of it! Unease gripped her, that she would be noticed by the Dark Gods or their defier, and the fragile flame of her being snuffed out. The feeling passed. The regard of the things of the Othersea was ossified, so long had they fixed their gaze on the Earth. The Emperor did not shift His regard. His attention was elsewhere, upon the blinding pyre of souls, navigation beacon of the mon-keigh. She had no indication she was seen. There was little relief in that. She had laughed in the face of She Who Thirsts, but the Corpse Emperor filled her with a sense of dread."
@Counterpoints40K At first I thought you were going to straight up ignore the elephant in the room... but you did an EXCELLENT job of not only explaining the controversy, and both sides arguments, in a dispassionate manner, you also put forward your personal feelings on the matter last. Feelings that many of us relate to such that you could have been speaking for us directly and been pretty close if not completely dead on. All while being calm, rational, and direct. I appreciate what you are doing and am glad my initial confusion was wrong. Keep it up man. Thank you.
@@Counterpoints I've always supported representation in 40k if people want it, but I feel like there is this weird demand that to have female representation, male representation must be destroyed, which just confuses me. Long time players have been asking for more Sisters of Battle, more Sisters of Silence, more female Guardsmen, for a decade, both men and women. There was an easy win for everyone here, but instead they just wreck things instead of giving some spotlight to the female representation already in the game. It's baffling.
Well except custodes isn't created from gene seeds, even in the lore book how custodes is created, never mentions gender, they take who is best at a young age, and at 3-4 years old male or female usualy don't matter much. Custodes is handcrafted people, not made from a geneseed from a primarch, the Custodes existed before the primarchs, 10000 of them even, and in the lore about 70-80 of them is known. Which is less then 1% so if some is female isn't breaking anything, the only thing that "could" mention it is an all male group is the word BROTHERHOOD. And you there are plenty of groups, clans etc that is called brotherhood that includes females. INFACT it would had been worse if it was a space marine female which is also weird, like it's the 41th millenium like mankind can't change a few chromosomes....which we could like almost do now in the 21th millenium. And afterall GW with white dwarf in the late 80s showed us female space marines, but they didn't sell well, I remember a space marine amazon for example.
@@olle12 The female space marines in White Dwarf were literally just Sisters of Battle; they had no genetic modifications. The lore states that the custodians are taken from the sons of nobility, and while it doesn't state directly that females can't be taken, it also doesn't say that blind, limbless, deformed children of nobility can't be recruited either. The female custodians make no sense because they aren't exactly hand-crafted anymore because the emperor is no longer around to do it. The emperor more than likely has a standardized process to create custodians; otherwise, it would be impossible to create new ones without his direct guidance, and you can also tell it is a standardized process due to all custodians being roughly equal with a few standouts. If each one was handcrafted and changed to suit them on an individual level, there would be far more variance in the results.
The Arbites I think made this episode awesome! The stand and die protocol was Epic! The scene with the power-maul was just incredible! Pump action bolter with the enforcer rounds made my day. They were really brave and competent and stood there in the face of the enemy.without taking one step back! That is how I always imagined them to be Fearless and I like the way the custodian spoke to the arbitrator like he wasn't just a meat sack.
Agree, i also like how the arbites was able to straight up notice the custodes uneasyness and without hesitation able to draw conclusion that shit is going down soon
Really? Cause I can't this guy and I would watch him if I could find this for free.... maybe you needed a male pep talk, I don't really understand why a man would need that but every time dude speaks I worry if he is a cop somewhere..... he is giving off the violence makes his weiner tingle vibe 😬
For such a pinnacle of a "diplomat", she does an absolute shit job of ordering the White Templars to evac the planet. A good diplomat would have acknowledged the White Templars work and dedication to their Oath. In fact, She should have framed it as a great achievement for the White Templars. They successfully completed their Oath until the point came where the Emperor now needed the planet to intentionally fall. Instead, she brow beats him in a so-called "I'm a big badass" staredown. Quite disappointing behavior for a Custode. Some would say, arrogant, even.
I think it's a pretty accurate depiction of powerful beings being disconnected from those who they should be protecting or working along side. I like the idea that she is stating that space marine arrogance is what led to the Horus Heresy, but she is doing the same and maybe there's learning to be had.
Also Male Custodies and Female Sisters of silence have a beautiful and complimentary relationship. The Custodies are the hard physical shield, unflinching authority and the disinclined unrelenting violence. The Sisters of Silence are the ethereal mystical, fearless towards the turbulent emotions that to anyone else would spell doom, untouchable and above/beyond petty mortal concerns. The are also unbeatable together in combat, only countered by an orbital strike. The SoS while in the best arms, armor and has undergone the pinnacle of human training, is only a human. She can be overwhelmed or outmatched in combat. The only counter to a Custodies endless martial prowess is the mystical warp. But together they shield each other's weakness and become greater than the sum of their parts. Of course, the notion that men and women being different but complimentary is anathema towards 'some people'.
If custodes are the pinnacle of martial prowess then how could there be a female custody? They were akways men for a reason. If u have men custodies and women ones, the men beat the women cause of the differences between sexes. Even with genetic engineering the men would just be that much more physically powerful than the women ones
@@shawnjames1107 Two of the strongest mortal human faction in 40k are the Sister of Silence and Sisters of Battle. The difference in terms of combat between the two sexes are near nonexistent in the far future.
@@ghostofsparta757 wrong , so in the far future women morphed into a complete different thing? No they are still women and weaker physically in every sense than men. those two you mentioned are inferior to custodes and space marines which are men. I dont care about female custodes or whatever, I really don't, but it's the reason why GW did it is what pisses me off. If you're in the loop, you know EXACTLY why GW did it, it was all because of the dumb 40k Amazon show collab after all. It's a damn shame, I personally wouldn't even mind female custodes, even more if they actually have somewhat unique armor too, but it's been established for so damn long that Sisters of Silence are basically cool female custodes, that this just simply feels like a shoehorn move.
Thank god someone said it, like I wouldn’t have mind it if they introduced it naturally instead of shoving it in like a pill to a patient in a Pysch ward. They did it because a bunch of trolls made a big stink across social media about there being no female space marines. This was GW saying “here now shut up”

Whatever faults they may have are made up with their genetic engineering and bio sculpting the emperor and malcador gave them thus is why they are very very hard to recreate
The women custodes would still not be able to fit the same standard as men no matter engineering. If both men abs women got same engineering the women would not fit same standard of training and ability as men. It’s absurd. Just like in real military they had to lower physical requirements for women.
As a Mexican, i always have felt the conection or "being represented" with certain fictional character no matter what race, sex or even if they are humans or not . In 40k for example my favorites have always been The Salamanders and The Blood Angels (not verry Mexican am i right?) "representation" is a lie, it has to do with the individual and their insecurities, not with actually representing yourself on a fictional universe by your race or gender.
Exactly. Didn't matter how or why you connected with a faction, only that you did. I'm not a world consuming horde of alien monsters... I like my nids though...
I hated cinema classic 'Alien' because the hero Ripley wasn't a dude! See how idiotic that sounds? You're bang on. "Representation" is a substitute for subversion.
Makes me happy that the Salamanders seem to be be getting a lot of love lately. Their continued story of kind sacrificing shows the best (that there can be) of that world. Also Vulkan as a perpetual has to come back at some point
Acho cabron ten cuidado que no te quedes sin respirar al chupar tanto bicho blanco. You do realize you are connection the most with chapters who are MEANT to connect with minorities right? You bring up the salamanders, an all black chapter that has strong bonds to family and community, something also present in many Hispanic cultures. You are being influenced by rep and you don’t even realize it, all while trying to lock out others that simply with to also take part in a power fantasy. How insecure and weak do you have to be to want to lock people out of that? You literally lose nothing, and yet here you are bitching about fantasy characters having different skin tones or tits. You nothing but weak man who throws his people under the bus while using their name as shield against criticism. Yeah you have don’t need rep but you sure need to mention your nationality to gain validity on the internet right? Sad as hell, glad to see people with your mentality are dying out even in the fandom. You will not be missed
The problem with this argument arises when you realize that people within these communities idealize their fantasy universe as being one where your ethnicity doesn’t exist or exist as a lesser life form. You really don’t see the problem with anyone who’s not white or male having to seek out either lesser factions or aliens in universe just to get some type of representatio? (Not to mention most humanoid aliens in war hammer are actively experiencing genocide). Also, being pissed at something as small as a woman or non-white person being introduced into a universe where the people dying in wars are in the quadrillions just exposes your personal biases. If you can’t stand to see minorities and women being represented as equals in a fantasy universe what does that say about how you or the writers feel about them in real life?

10/10 script explaining and providing a pretty rounded argument mate. Thank you for the effort you've put into this video, I think this was one of the best videos I've watched so far, and wasn't expecting how good it was gonna get. I also didn't know anything crazy about the Custodes (outside of TTS, RIP), but establishing a more clear divide where Astartes are the Engine of War, Sisters of battle are the Zealots of Loyalty, and Custodes are the Pillars of Humanity (excuse my vocabulary, it isn't my forte), knowing Custodes are only a cut-above because they're essentially more citizen than war machine, that they represent the capacities that society exists for (art, politics, philosophy, etc) makes greater sense how they actually fitted in the whole "Super-Soldier" collective.
I just wanted to continue the last section without creating a wall of text. When you have such an array of super soldiers, Space Marines, Sisters of Battle, Custodes, knowing how they fit into the whole scheme really mattered, because of how the Primarchs existed to previously be engineered leaders, so it was all pretty rounded, but admittedly I never noticed "Art, Philosophy, etc" was a area kind of vacant, the pieces of human society, really only restricted to nobility or the hive cities?
I wouldn't outright reject a female Custodes if it fits lore wise, but I don't like the retconning GW Writers do ever so often in their stories. That's one of the reasons why I don't like certain parts in The Death & the End Vol. III.
Custodes are hand crafted super beings, why would that be limited to one gender? The emperor created them to be companions and to be intellectually stimulating, again, limiting them one gender would be boring. Space marines have geneseed that requires a human male as a limiting factor.
I keep saying this! I know most of the community would not mind female custodes had they introduced them properly instead of shitty retcons on the lore But now the community is split between the hyper progressives and regular people who just want lore consistency

The mostly vanilla white scar models allows for so much creativity, and I think that’s the best approach. Kit bashing, green stuff, and 3D printers really enable players to make their armies in their own vision. I’ve never had anyone criticize my army. If anything it facilitates beautiful dialogue in which everyone involved can see how we can all carve our own domains in this large expanse without intruding on others. I’ve loved this about warhammer. I’ve always thought that the two missing legions really existed to allow hobbyists to create their own legions, and this is what I’ve done. My vision of warhammer probably differs significantly from the next person, but the immense lore allows for it without forcing it on everyone else

I for one , strongly oppose female Custodes. If GW wanted to included some more "strong independent" female characters then WHY not make NEW organizations composing "strong independent" female characters instead. NOT simply ruining the already established lore for DECADES. Although we the fans can't really do anything, no matter how frequent we object or protest to GW's decisions. I think we the fans should still ban together TO PREVENT GW from making anymore illogical decisions in the future, such as this one. By abstaining to spend money on their products for a considerable period. I 'm not saying giving up on the hobby or franchise completely. I 'm just saying we should make GW think twice by affecting their SALES quarterly, semi-annually or even annually. 1. Cancelling subscriptions (TV or any) for the mean time. 2. Postponing buying anymore codex, books, novels and models etc. 3. Simply use or play with what you have currently. 4. Finally have time to work on that pile of shame in the mean time. I don't like how female custodes were implemented. No one did. It was underhanded and they should have made it an in-lore explanation within the Codex. Imagine if they said this is new, like a very rare few females survive into becoming Custodes, and were only considered after the Lion's Gate and the Custodes needing to rebuild their numbers to the ten thousand. I agree, the thematic of Humanity at it's pinnacle - Men AND Women - Experiencing the fall of mankind and protecting it in it's dying hour is very interesting and I actually like that they went with a design that conveys that, no. Female custodes will not be dainty little princesses. They are built to be towering war machines just like their male counterparts. They gave up that beauty, that desirability that many men would seek in a woman, to become the Emperor's word. If the Adepta Sororitas are the pinnacle of the female form And the Adeptus Astartes are the pinnacle of the male form I think the Adeptus Custodes being the utter peak of humanity as a whole, the Emperor's hand-crafted vision for what mankind would look like as a whole, if he was never stopped is the far more interesting depiction than the under-developed boys in gold. I look forward to the lore, and I will happily eat my own words if this actually does turn out to be the death of a hobby that has stood the test of time. But I believe this too shall pass, it won't be a big deal in the long run because at the end of the day, GW is a business. They stand to make money from at least offering the option here and there for you to get the models you want. Proxies exist, you can kitbash. You don't NEED a female custode in your list. At the end of the day they're your funny little plastic army men. It doesn't matter one bit whether they have a hypothetical dick or not let's be real here. I have a female custode blade champion, she's a great model I kitbashed myself, I really like her. I went more feminine than this depiction, but that's only because I think both is good.
"I agree, the thematic of Humanity at it's pinnacle - Men AND Women - Experiencing the fall of mankind and protecting it in it's dying hour is very interesting" That starkly contrasts with history, though, and the experiences of humanity as a species. Which might be a subconscious part of why it's so unpopular.

There is more than enough representation in Warhammer 40k. It's also entertainment. It doesn't need representation. You have what you get. I don't want to see a female Custodes because it isn't necessary to have one. However, What i will say is that she is exactly what i would expect a female Custodes or Space Marine would look like. Neither are going to be sexy fem fatales. They are going to be big ugly brutes due to the loss of estrogen. Look at any un enhanced female body builder. So at least they got that right.
Valid point, I don't see a major problem with having female Custodes or Astartes and I don't see the benefit in getting outraged. I'm a 40K fan and have gotten very into the IP in the past few years, I enjoy the painting side and I'm very into the lore and recently been playing Space Marine 2 and it's awesome. Just because it was all male and predominantly geared towards males 40+ years ago doesn't mean things can't change and adapt. I don't see how adding in female variants takes away from anyone's enjoyment. You still have access to all of the models and content that already exists and as you pointed out if you show a female Custodes or Astartes they should probably look like the above, you can't even tell the difference since they should all be big hulking monsters in power armour. I get that for some people this is THEIR thing and it's something they connected with at a young age, but there's more than enough room to include some modern sensibilities and variety, I also agree there's already a lot of diversity in the 40K universe so I don't buy anyone stating that there's a lack of representation when almost every faction has a varied showing of gender, race etc.
@@piposull08 i think the outrage is more about the current trend in game development of forcefully putting minorities, woman and LGBTQ+ people just to check boxes without care about the story not only does this end in a lot of cases misrepresentation and clear virtue signaling its also ruin a lot of the story. while this is but a small change that really in my opinion doesn't mean anything its the fear of the fans over what stuff like this can do to a franchise as we have seen with star wars which is now considered to be 100% dead, we all care about Warhammer we don't want it to get ruined. also if this was about adapting the story they would have have at least tried to come up with a lore reason as to why we have never seen any female Custodes until now. in my personal opinion this freak out over the changes are untestable but to me not necessary as this is just one case when we start seeing a pattern of GW sacrificing the story of Warhammer in order to appear more inclusive and to do some virtue signaling them this kind of response is required.

To further demonstrate the potency and effectiveness of a Custode, there was a recent book telling of a single Custode being forced to fight an entire regiment of PRIMARIS space marines aboard a ship because they were getting very uppity with the Custode for telling them to just hold back for inspection because he was just skeptical about the introduction of the Primaris. More than half of the regiment was slaughtered within minutes.

We’ll just push it down your throat till you accept it”…..Well I’m here to STAND UP FOR MY BELOVED BELIEFS AS WELL and whats going on right now is getting REALLY OLD FAST!
I'm not against women in Warhammer, I'm against rewriting the lore, which is almost older than many of the fans. I'm against pandering to propaganda, because it can't be called anything else. I'm almost 100% sure that they are adding women to the lore not because they actually care about the female fans, but because it's a trend / fashion / politics / money. How far could these rewrites go? Are we going to make the Fabricator of Mars a gender-fluid trans helicopter with hairy armpits? One of the lost primarchs a body-positive, non-binary, furry fanboy? I fell in love with Warhammer for the setting, for the lore, for the atmosphere, and now it's turning into a circus. I think it's important to clarify, I'm sure no one is against women in Warhammer or gays, lesbians, or transgender people. It's just that if they exist in the lore, there should be a logical explanation. Female Custodes should have some advantages over male Custodes, or it should be explained how the difference in gender is neutralized by something. All these changes without explanations, just to appease propaganda, destroy the perception of Warhammer.
And overall, I don’t understand why they feel the need to meddle with Warhammer and change it to fit their vision. Why touch a world that has been built over many years, why change its core? If they need all these propaganda gimmicks so much, they should create their own universe exactly the way they want it.
Enjoyed this! As of now, we can enjoy whatever we want. I truly hope this continues. And the idea of 'if i cant have it no one can' doesn't rule out. I suppose its just human nature. Rising above is hard! And it takes work and dedication.

Different causes, same resistance to progress. You conservatives haven't changed a bit!

Bro really had the right idea when in the middle of the video he said Custodians were handcrafted by the emperor. Literally nobody knows how to make custodians anymore, there was that one guy who made the video about the emperor making a key to the lock that was the individual custodian candidate, now the highest studied gene tailors are just using those old keys of the emperor and seeing which lock they can open with them. Doing this with men is fine because of the whole breeding balance thing, but doing this with women is idiotic through the same argument basis where you wouldnt send all your women to war nowadays. Youd have nobody left back home to make new soldiers. This still applies because custodians arent just made from some random people all over the imperium, they are made from the *Most genetically perfect high nobles of Terra.* Female astartes? sure, maybe. We have quadrillions of people to trial-and-error our way through the process and maybe make some female Astartes. But we dont have the same luxury for the Custodes who are currently being created at a rate of 1 per year in the setting. The emperor made them at a rate of 50 a year prior to being entombed to his throne.
Funny that nobody makes the "breeding balance" argument against the Sisters of Battle, or the female units of the Imperial Guard. The Imperium has trillions of people to choose from. They're not running out of breeding pairs any time soon.
@@BlackEpyonthey did mention with custodians have a higher risk given that theyre taken from those with the best genes which the guard dont tend to have
@@thefakecat8340 Given that nobility tend to inbreed, "the best genes" is a rather subjective criteria. You see it all the time in purebred animals, the ones with the best "desirable" traits tend to have a lot of recessive deleterious genes that become dominant if you keep inbreeding. RESPONSIBLE breeders will introduce a mutt or a grade into the breeding pool now and again in order to dilute the deleterious genes, but you'll notice that throughout most of the past millennium, nobility tended to avoid that. The Hapsburg lip is one famous example. Even if the Custodes selection are the best of the best of Terran nobility, they're a genetic cesspool!
This this this. I’ve mentioned the same things about birth rates and the rate bloodlines of high Terran nobility. There’s NO way those families would sacrifice their daughters to become Custodes. They were always male and they can’t make new ones. So if they weren’t made back then they can’t be made now.

Custodies and the Sisters of Silence are like the Emperor's own hands. If the Custodes are the right hand then Sisters of Silence are his left hand. And the WOKE that cares not for the 40k in the first place demands the Emperor has two left hands now? If it took another boycott of GW so that they know who is buying their plastic toys then let it be.
It's like a plague, we're slowly witnessing sexual minorities in this franchise. The custodians are like the emperor himself. As far as I know Lor, they've never accepted a woman in this position. They're completely made of the emperor, and now without An attractive story and a background, they want the fans to accept it with pressure, we will never accept it

Well said my friend
If custodes are the pinnacle of martial prowess then how could there be a female custody? They were akways men for a reason.

III.

Yea, it would have been better if they started getting female custodians recruited recently
Custodes are hand crafted super beings, why would that be limited to one gender? The emperor created them to be companions and to be intellectually stimulating, again, limiting them one gender would be boring. Space marines have geneseed that requires a human male as a limiting factor.

If the Adepta Sororitas are the pinnacle of the female form
And the Adeptus Astartes are the pinnacle of the male form
I think the Adeptus Custodes being the utter peak of humanity as a whole, the Emperor's hand-crafted vision for what mankind would look like as a whole, if he was never stopped is the far more interesting depiction than the under-developed boys in gold.

How come you don’t like representation?
Do you not like seeing minorities and women?
I get that for some people this is THEIR thing and it's something they connected with at a young age, but there's more than enough room to include some modern sensibilities and variety, I also agree there's already a lot of diversity in the 40K universe so I don't buy anyone stating that there's a lack of representation when almost every faction has a varied showing of gender, race etc.
oh my God Warhammer is going woke
@@byronritchie5449 Warhammer 40k has always had males and females in abundance, why are you unable to see them? Do you not like any of them? Female Custodes are not a thing and you seem upset by it and fail to even recognize whats already there. You explain that first.

Brienne of Tarth - Custodes
So we can have brothers of silence now?
To further demonstrate the potency and effectiveness of a Custode, there was a recent book telling of a single Custode being forced to fight an entire regiment of PRIMARIS space marines aboard a ship because they were getting very uppity with the Custode for telling them to just hold back for inspection because he was just skeptical about the introduction of the Primaris. More than half of the regiment was slaughtered within minutes.

Heressy, brother... Heressy.

@@BlackEpyon What?
Bro really had the right idea when in the middle of the video he said Custodians were handcrafted by the emperor. Literally nobody knows how to make custodians anymore, there was that one guy who made the video about the emperor making a key to the lock that was the individual custodian candidate, now the highest studied gene tailors are just using those old keys of the emperor and seeing which lock they can open with them. Doing this with men is fine because of the whole breeding balance thing, but doing this with women is idiotic through the same argument basis where you wouldnt send all your women to war nowadays. Youd have nobody left back home to make new soldiers.
This still applies because custodians arent just made from some random people all over the imperium, they are made from the *Most genetically perfect high nobles of Terra.*
Female astartes? sure, maybe.
