The original version of your astartes video is what got me into the hobby by reading Horus Rising. I just finished The End and the Death volume 2 yesterday and have over 2k points worth of Salamanders 3 years later. What a ride it’s been. Thanks for sharing, Conor.

I've become a 40k fan for quite a while now and I am continually surprised by the amount of lore, videos, books and figures in this universe! If you have access to a computer you could get into 3D printing. Just my take... but when the Space Marines are absorbed by the Orb and they are floating in the true body's tentacles, the blast of black fire that frees the Space Marines MUST have been the final parting shot from the soul of the Possessed Alpha Psyker, homing in on his last enemies just like the death curse of wizards from Dresden Files When the Psyker is meditating and scrying on the Orbs in the Warp, the Orbs have an aura that is bright blue and somewhat electric visually, while his is like black colored flames surrounding him. When he was possessed and executed, I think he launched a final desperate shot at the remaining Orb.
There's just as equal odds that the Chapter had Librarians if not the Chief Librarian on station. They had a artifact/creature that was powerful in the warp. The First Captain was present and he would have prepared accordingly.

Although I was aware of the 40K universe and had some curiosity about it I was just a dabbler. However, this incredible piece of fan fiction got me hooked on the lore of this complex and in-depth story that defied the idealistic narrative of most science fiction. Even though I, like most others have hope for a brighter, better future 40K takes that vision and rips it to shreds by reminding us of the shortcomings and foibles of Humanity.

Dude your breakdown and introduction to 40k using "Astartes" is fantastic! It's not just going through the video but is a total intro to the lore and mythos (while barely scratching the surface of the hugly deep well that is 40k) that's succinct, to the point, and brilliant. Hitting all the points needing more emphasis and details. Well done sir ! Additionally this fan video is what really made me fall in love with 40k. Before this I knew very little, after I became a total 40k fan and wish to the Emperor of Man that the "Astartes" creator is allowed to make even more videos and finish his work. GW would be completely inept, foolish, and frankly hurt their brand and stock holders if they do not allow this brilliant creator to finish their vision and continue creating absolute works of art. GW needs to ask this question, how many fans existed before "Astartes" and how many were brought into the hobby and fandom by "Astartes"? I guarantee millions of people became fans, and hundreds of thousands joined the hobby and have bought 40k merchandise and it's all because of this fan created video. Lastly if GW denies the creator of this video the ability to "cook" I honestly believe shareholders would have a case to sue for damages and lost shareholders revenue and value. Not so much because of the backlash by existing fans, but because of the lost potential to bring more paying customers into the hobby. Without this video how many currently existing paying customers wouldn't exist (I'm one of them)? To lose the potential for new paying customers to enter the fandom all due to not allowing this man to "cook" would be damaging to existing shareholders.
ive seen professional movie producers go nuts over this, honestly most of them are uttely gobsmacked that it was all done by one person. pretty much all of them rave over his attention to detail. the way the lighting and effects are done is apparently almost god tier.

I saw something that really resembled these orbs in a Warhammer 40k game called Gladius (which is Civilisation with a warhammer skin). In it, akin to barbarians you have the various neutral horrors of 40k that pop up on the map. One such of these abberations are the Umbra, which look a lot like these spheres and seem to function similarly to those in Astartes. I can't find a lot on them, apart that they're powerful warp entities, but it could warrant further research.
The creator of Astartes is a fkn GENIUS!!!!!! The shots he chose to tell his story was perfection at its finest. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone with this exceptional gift. Has anyone ever interviewed this man? If not, he must be hunted down, put on public display, and prodded with a stick.
6:08 Didnt notice that at first but it seems like the fighter also disabled the ship's engines with rockets, probably so that they dont escape incase the boarding fails
Keep in mind the original was in 4k. But then after games workshop threatened to sue him into oblivion. Then took control of his creation and reduced it down to a low res And take town and get rid of all the originals. In order to get something that's halfway decent you have to remaster it. 😢
Congratulations on the well earned recognition. I would be very interested in reading the plot and narrative style for your animation. The ‘no talking’ in the episode is cool but I personally feel the ability of the episodes to convey 40k humanities positivity and negativity via dialogue is what creates a relationship with the viewers.
Considering the nature of this... I found your channel straight off of watching Astartes and TH-cam linking to you after. (Was my fiftieth watch.) Love your work, thank you for sharing your knowledge and insights.
What makes criticism work is when the person doing so has knowledge, nuance, and perception. Your understanding of the genre, your military background, and your facial expressions that you share with us make this and all your other WH videos consequential. I hope your trek to 100K moves with pace.
28:11 the force was inquisitor's last help, his attack. When two orbs are speaking in the stars, they glow white, and inquisitor glows black. The thing that attacked octopus like thing on 28:11 was also black.
I have never played 40k but as a sci fi fan I am obsessed with the lore and the story of Warhammer and it started with this short. So great to hear this artist was hired by the creators. Shout out to Corridor Crew for featuring this artist on their show. 😁👍
This was the work of one guy. And GW did right by hiring him when they had the chance.. I just hope they give him a big budget and a staff of writers so this level of immersion can be turned into a feature movie. Id be happy to wait for a decade if it means no drop in quality
As a casual Warhammer/ Space Marines fan I’ve watched the Astartes mini movie a whole load of times but didn’t really understand what was fully going on. This breakdown fixed that and, not only, added more layers of intrigue to the Astartes Space Marine faction but explained to a newbie in a well thought out way. So thanks very much for that. I am aware that Games Workshop are a bit of a closed shop and very controlling of their Space Marine world but if they can ever match this masterpiece I will be amazed… I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better piece of Dark Fantasy Science Fiction. Ever. For the Emperor !
Couple years ago when I randomly got the youtube recommendation saw his video I was instantly hooked. His video alone got into the warhammer and then after that started watching and learning about 40k. One day I wish to be able to paint a model. I wonder whatever happen to the creator
The Astartes series is what got me into Warhammer. I desperately wanted to know more about the armor-cladded warriors I saw from this several years ago
Astartes never gets old. While some shows has gotten close, I don't believe any has gotten the shear excitement that Astartes generates. This is done by nothing but shear visual. If there had been dialog from the Space Marines it would have diminished the effect. The care that each scene is constructed conveys all the viewer needs. Every tiny detail moves the story along, my favorite was the prayers on the wall around the containment room. Truly a master piece in story telling. My one fear is that they publish an Astartes II and it has too many cooks in the kitchen. Keep up the great work.
Astartes, when the final episode came out, a long with the lockdowns really got me into Warhammer 40K. Also out of a depression funk as well, but story for another time. Love this lore and this hobby. Keep the Grim Dark GRIM and DARK. Thank u
Hey man, awesome video. I was just wondering where your intro of a space marine smacking that orc was from? Is it an animation or something you had made for your channel? Thanks
Honestly I feel like the music in the music in the original videos was a lot beter than the remastered version. Although I will say that I think the visuals were slightly improved for the most part. Great video!
Just wanted to point out that the Marine that got hit with the las volley is the squad's sergeant Also a cool detail is when they first deploy, they wait for the sergeant to take point before advancing
@@duanehenigin when I go full time I want to listen to the Horus heresy on stream while painting/3d modeling and do breakdowns while I’m listening to it, but also do summaries
@@Counterpoints Great story!! Does not feel as Gritty or Dark as the videos. But I"m just getting to the more "chaos" oriented content. (Dont want to spoil it for anyone)
Thats is cool how the full body, it has a inner suit called the carapace. 9:40 Because ill bet that if it got inflated inside of the armor, then the space marine would be stronger.
Yeah, I assumed there would be new music. The Dredd soundtrack is what I work out to, so I recognised it immediately in the original version; the new soundtrack doesn't compare. A few sound effect tweaks, and they've altered the speed of a few shots? I've always thought the autocannon guy was an idiot for choosing the worst angle from which to attack, unlike the multilaser crew. I had hoped the voicework would have been more legible in this version, but alas.
There is no question about it, THE RETRIBUTORS MUST BE MADE CANNON. I started following Warhammer 40K becsuse of the Retributors and this outstanding video. Games Workshop will be hard pressed to top Astartes.
i know ive said it before on the last vid but i really love how to show how powerful the space marines are they put them against actually intelligent enemies the chaos soldiers they fight actually understand how 'urban warfare' works they use choke points ambush locations HMG teams AT teams to try to defeat the space marines but are just not strong enough and the chaos psykers actually know how to fully utilize their powers too making forcefields to protect themselves and try to crush the space marines to death and the space marines arent just meatheads they are being smart too taking cover when needed actually going to intercept an enemy ambush using stealth and using smoke grenades plasma weapons knives and supressive fire to give themselves another edge even though they prolly dont need it that much
Connor Remastereed his hair....that is a 40k hair-doo if i ever saw one...awesome... The new visual detail in the animation is great...love it... I liked the old music and pacing of the action in the original better...
The "two masked individuals" you are speaking about are or seem to be, two chaos marines... Maybe from the same legion of Arhiman, the warlock of chaos which devoted himself and his whole legion to the ruinous power of Tzeentch, the Chaos God of Magic and Knowledge aimed at its own pointless...
Just saw that netflix announced Terminator: The Anime Series, basicly just the title and other names. Iv wanted terminator and amime for so long, this will be so cool!
Not just that but it portrayed the Marines aa faithfully as possible. It really doesn't get more accurate than this as a representation of their pure power and capabilities, mental and physical. WHICH, UNFORTUNATELY, doesn't seem to be how GW wants to portray the Marines nowadays. 90% of their cinematic works represent marines in a medieval knight "chaaaarge" forward ooga booga sluggish tanks. They are usually somewhat emotional or dramatic (pls keep in mind, by what marines standards should, and were set as), they are sluggish with occasional dashes or quick rushes, which still seem slow and not very agile, they are literally 80% dumber and less mentally sharp (* see Sa khan firing 3 random bolt shots before jumping INTO COVER when facing with a MEELE enemy that was far from closing the gap),their enhanced senses/battle instincts are never demonstrated and overall seem slow and simple minded, in a bad way.. they were turned into either abnormally fast but still heavy and slugish tanks with narrative main character syndrome, or, the same but instead of the drama it's a marine that stomps is way forward with no cover, strategy , or care, and as if his weight is dragging him down, while while he scream for the emperor and simply tanks everything in the face. Good example of an exception would be Black Rage Blood Angel vs the Two Death Guard. He moves fast, reacts fast and strategically, while still demonstrating raw power and strength. Then again, that is supposed to be and enraged state in which they aren't thinking straight albeit enhanced in strength. Even tho, that should be pretty much a standard marine fighting and somehow is the only time he didn't just stood there shooting his bolter into the void with no cover, or brandishing is chainsword against pox walkers like a kill trying to slap a fly. And i guess you could argue or question the resilience of those death guards but at this point that's not even worth the debate. So yeah. It sucks. Especially because we got THIS to see them in all their might, with basic weaponry only. Now we are lucky to get snippets of this They are now ooga booga hulking tanks capable of somehwat abnormal agility and little to no thinking or strategy besides, idk, spray fire from cover into general a direction, like a guardsman with lasguns, stand still and spray wtv weapon, walk around carelessly like they own the place, or rush forward in full tunnel vision while screaming "waaagh" because they are stupid and really like fight- oh wait
@@Peterphoskytos mate that is the longest reply I have ever read. Its almost an essay. But you are right about the portrayal of the space marines. Arstartes nailed it. I only wish the creators had more time with the series. Especially when they teased Eldar in the end trailer.
@@LilGinjaMassive ahah i apologize, i write a lot without effort when I let myself go But yeah exactly. I think they eventually got to a point where the overall theme/battles/wtv conflicted with how they defined the Space Marines, leading to a conflict where they had to choose between the more tactical, efficient, modern military approach, or the medieval sword clashing rush forward battles but with some technology. They are essentially heavily armored knights with extra speed and attributes. Which is fine in of itself, it just kinda sucks in comparison to what we got to see and understand as what was a Space Marine
@@Peterphoskytos no need for apologies brother. You made your point and had plenty of information to back it up. You obviously have the same passion for the hobby and/or the narrative lore. I have the same passion and would have done the same.
@@LilGinjaMassive appreciate that! Yeah, I'm not extensively knowledgeable or any expert, but I am very passionate about it. And the aspects that made me fell in love with it. Cinematics like this Like the click in my brain when both marines sprint effortlessly at the psykers and I remember "Marines can weight like a literal TON" and suddenly you imagine and understand the absolute terror that would be to have a enhanced, fearless , unwavering tactical genius, weighting 700-1000kg and almost 3 meters tall, with enhancing armor that is comparabe to a tank, SPRINTING at you with the sole purpose of deleting your existence Those moments were you were reminded of how insane marines, and by extension, the enemies, are. That sense of wonder is what lured me in. And many other people. So seeing them reduced to 1/10 of what they are truly saddens me. I want people to see and experience what I did, bcs it was amazing. Not one of the worst fights i can possible think of from 40k, like Sahkan vs the Necron. Which even annoys me... But oh well. I apologize for my rant again x.x
The remastered version of the project was disappointing, primarily due to the significant changes in its music soundtrack. The original soundtrack was integral to the project's artistic impact, having been finely tuned to complement the visual artistry that took months, if not years, to perfect. Unfortunately, the remaster, likely influenced by WG copyright constraints, replaced this with their proprietary music, which did not resonate well with the existing scenes. Additionally, some of the altered sound effects clashed with the shots, further detracting from the experience. Given that the remaster was completed in a relatively short time, it fails to do justice to the original work's depth and artistry, ultimately undermining the video's long-term value

In order to get something that's halfway decent you have to remaster it.
😢
Only Slaanesh holds the answer to that question....
Uruk Hai ork models sound pretty cool. I've seen some stuff on social media showing custom minis, but that is a pretty awesome concept.
Thank you as always for being a portal to this hobby and the lore that supports it.
Still the best 40K animation to date. Its just beautiful. This is what got me interested in the franchise.
Hey, Connor. I always wondered what's your favourite 40k faction/chapter if you haven't mentioned it already.
SPACE WOLFS 🐺
28:11 the force was inquisitor's last help, his attack. When two orbs are speaking in the stars, they glow white, and inquisitor glows black. The thing that attacked octopus like thing on 28:11 was also black.
Nice animation and sound. Nice explanation by you too, Connor. Thanks.
Your original Astartes video got me into your channel, and it's awesome to see you revisit it with more experience.
Something tells me he's working on the live action Henry Cavill 40k series. The timing would line up and he's got the talent,
@@Rogue_Trooper970i hope so. The direction is great with no fluff. Add a good story and it'll be an awesome movie
10:42 actually there are two rebels, hence why the marine shot twice during the close up. I missed the second guy the first time I watched too!
28:10 the shadowy figure in the warp that destroys the monster could be corvus corax post-heresy
There is so much to love about ASTARTES. The attention to detail is second to none.
12:25 When the Blood Ravens are around, and you haven't bolted down everything.
Great video as always. I was wondering if you've seen the 40k animation Steel Coffin. Part 2 just came out recently and it's pretty good.
Like a breath of fresh air. This was well done and broken down even better.
the doc with Lauren Southern was great! love the content as always.
Thanks
I truly believe Pedersen’s Astartes Project is, without a doubt, the birth of the Star Wars saga of our generation.
Honestly I feel like the music in the music in the original videos was a lot beter than the remastered version. Although I will say that I think the visuals were slightly improved for the most part.
Great video!
Just wanted to point out that the Marine that got hit with the las volley is the squad's sergeant
Also a cool detail is when they first deploy, they wait for the sergeant to take point before advancing
I'm not into gaming but I'm drawn to the lore and storyline. This video is great for a new guy like me. Thanks
Check out Space Marine and Space Marine 2 video game trailers for an easy in
@@Counterpoints I have been listening to Horus Heresy on audiobooks too. I have alot of windshield time with my work. Thanks again bud.
I can never get enough of that intro!
What where the 3 chapters at the end? I only recognised the first as the blood drinkers i think
Smiling wholesomely at mortal beings being torn apart by His chosen Angels.
There is no question about it, THE RETRIBUTORS MUST BE MADE CANNON. I started following Warhammer 40K becsuse of the Retributors and this outstanding video.
Games Workshop will be hard pressed to top Astartes.
i know ive said it before on the last vid but i really love how to show how powerful the space marines are they put them against actually intelligent enemies the chaos soldiers they fight actually understand how 'urban warfare' works they use choke points ambush locations HMG teams AT teams to try to defeat the space marines but are just not strong enough and the chaos psykers actually know how to fully utilize their powers too making forcefields to protect themselves and try to crush the space marines to death and the space marines arent just meatheads they are being smart too taking cover when needed actually going to intercept an enemy ambush using stealth and using smoke grenades plasma weapons knives and supressive fire to give themselves another edge even though they prolly dont need it that much
24:18 Can you tell me where is this place? And what is the lore behind it?
Connor Remastereed his hair....that is a 40k hair-doo if i ever saw one...awesome...
The new visual detail in the animation is great...love it...
I liked the old music and pacing of the action in the original better...
God kväll jag ville säga att
Du är värkligen bäst i vad du gör🕯
Also note that as Psykers go, the two who were commanding the cultists were actually on the weak side.
Would love to see the custodians in this type of action
Wow! I hope you’re dream comes true! I’m hooked. Great content! Keep it coming.
You got yourself a new subscription today. Love your stuff and I can’t wait to see what you have coming
love your pragmatic enthusiasm. subbed
Cool video. Where is that intro mini video from?
12:39
Is this the origin of the sound effect ?
THE AUDIO IS INCREDIBLE !
Should’ve won an Oscar for this!!
Why can’t we have more😢
i didnt even know there was more to Astarte's. I thought when the one handed captn came back to realspace on that crazy world.
I would love to see a real life replica of the Retributors' combat knife or a close facsimile of it.
Warhammer 40,000! WOOT! Warhammer Fantasy is also really cool too!
I bet GW still look at this masterpiece with one eye shut.
Knowing that an independent fan project set the bar so fucking high.
Now we are lucky to get snippets of this
They are now ooga booga hulking tanks capable of somehwat abnormal agility and little to no thinking or strategy besides, idk, spray fire from cover into general a direction, like a guardsman with lasguns, stand still and spray wtv weapon, walk around carelessly like they own the place, or rush forward in full tunnel vision while screaming "waaagh" because they are stupid and really like fight- oh wait
@@Peterphoskytos mate that is the longest reply I have ever read. Its almost an essay.
But you are right about the portrayal of the space marines. Arstartes nailed it.
I only wish the creators had more time with the series. Especially when they teased Eldar in the end trailer.
@@LilGinjaMassive ahah i apologize, i write a lot without effort when I let myself go
But yeah exactly.
Cinematics like this
Like the click in my brain when both marines sprint effortlessly at the psykers and I remember "Marines can weight like a literal TON" and suddenly you imagine and understand the absolute terror that would be to have a enhanced, fearless , unwavering tactical genius, weighting 700-1000kg and almost 3 meters tall, with enhancing armor that is comparabe to a tank, SPRINTING at you with the sole purpose of deleting your existence
Those moments were you were reminded of how insane marines, and by extension, the enemies, are.
I love this stuff, it's among the best stories out there. I can watch it all day shit you not. I need more like this one. I'm x .
Looking forward to all you mentioned in 2024 and beyond! !!!
This was the video that got me into 40k
Have yall seen the warhmmmer space marine hoddie and patching jogging plants?
It's crazy the GW still hasn't been able to surpass Astartes. Hopefully they let Pedersen slam Astartes 2 out of the park without interfering.
what video is the opening from with the ork?
8:21 Where is this From?
what do you mean, remastered? When was remastered version done? is it somethin gnew? if so, where can I find it? tnx
Given that the remaster was completed in a relatively short time, it fails to do justice to the original work's depth and artistry, ultimately undermining the video's long-term value
it's a shame so few people talk about astartes appearing on top of the pilons in the end
How is it possible to remaster a masterful piece of work
Glad to be part of the 55k
Maybe they have him working on the CGI for the live action with Henry Caval
