Simon is my favorite drummer among many I like. But such a humble guy for being so good. Would love to have a few beers with him here him talk drums. His live performance of Give Blood by Pete Towshend is so good and so inspiring. Simple for him in 4/4 but he makes it groove and rock. Wow
Your thinking of Robbie McIntosh that played for McCartney's touring band of the late 80's/early 90's, but another Robbie McIntosh was the name of the original AWB drummer, Ferrone was his replacement in 1975 after McIntosh died by accident from an OD.
With honesty he should of fessed that seeing Cobhams logical approach with mahavishnu made him switch to open playing. Played Tama Artstars square sized as well like Bill had his kit setup practically the same

Lenny White as well was an open player
For some reason him mentioning the Average White Band & there original drummer Robbie McIntosh has put a smile on my face.
Billy Cobham...yeah and Carter Beauford...left lead giants
You're definitely right!! Hamish Stuart of the average white band was playing with Mccartney and I made confusion..
I was at this clinic, myself, and I must say... His Gong Drum sounds absolutely brilliant.
It's ridiculous.

Robbie McIntosh is the great guitarist, the drummer in Average white band was Steve Ferrone

Maybe you should fess up to not watching the whole clip.
I'm not sure that Mr Phillips would be too happy about this having been recorded and uploaded. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the whole thing!
