  • The headlights have always been dim while driving at night so I decided to upgrade to LED lights. It was an easy upgrade with only some minor modifications to the plug at the back of the bulb and the results are amazing.
    Here are the housings I used:

      Welcome to the club! I always focus on things that make it reliably go and stop first and then work on the things that make it more comfortable after than. I expect there will always be things to do as long as we have her.

    I swapped out for LEDs in my '77 Kingsley. The entire assembly is the exact same size as the old style "bulb" (the whole headlight), and the pair cost less than the halogen bulbs you have listed. Not only that, but the assembly uses the original wire harness, so it's literally plug 'n' play. I love them. They even have halo style driving lights that flash amber when you use your turn signal.

      Thanks for the comment! I looked at some bulbs like those, there are a few cool styles with different LED patterns and effects like halos and turn signals. However, I wanted the preserve the original look so I chose LEDs that looked like the original lights. They were more expensive but I like the look. Regardless of the style, I think good LED headlights are a good upgrade for safer night driving.

    Thanks for posting this. We’ll definitely consider adding this upgrade to “Carla”, our 1973 “Glacier” GMC Motorhome.

      I'm really happy with the results. The lights are much brighter and I think good headlights are a safety feature rather than a "nice to have"

    Love the updates, keep 'em coming! In the same boat with needed headlight replacements. Will take a look at a similar set. Snyders '76 Palm Beach

      Thanks! I have a lot more on my list but I'm afraid it will slow down a little over the winter.

      @@rsprockets7846 Yes, I've seen those. I'm pretty happy with the way the round lens with LED bulbs are working and it maintains some of the original look.

    First thing I would say is the original headlights don't look like they were aligned properly The passenger light is pointing to the right, and they look like they were aimed low. But I am only judging by the 30 seconds we saw them on video.
    EDIT I see you comment on the adjustments at the end. I think if the halogens had been properly adjusted they would not have been so bad, but the LED is certainly an improvement.

    I know you probably are not needing to use the headlights a lot in this short time but would love to hear how the bulbs are holding up. I have heard a lot of bad things about LED bulbs without cooling built in not lasting that long.

      We plan to get out more this spring and summer than we did last year so we'll see how they hold up. I'm not sure we will do a lot of night driving regardless, ideally we will be camped and enjoying ourselves by the time it gets dark.

    The link for the LED bulb is no longer working. Is there any chance you can share the bulb information?

      I think any H4 type of bulb will work fine. I'm not sure why the other link is bad but this is a link to the same bulb. amzn.to/421UDoz

      I ordered everything from Amazon. I included the links above.

    there are several options for the lens in the link. What diameter lens did you successfully use?

      Thanks for the question! I used the 178mm size and it fit in the original spot using the existing retainer ring.

      Thank you sir. By the way, did you find any of the lights in the coach being wired with the base connected to 12 V? My floor lights have 12 V running to the bezel base of the socket. Kind of poses a problem with the LEDs.

    Can't seem to find where you got your lights?

      Hi There, I'm not sure why the link keeps failing but I updated it with the ones I used. I used H4 housings so I needed to use an H4 headlight. I don't think the brand is that important, I just picked one with good reviews. amzn.to/3Tz9rbD

    Was it the 178mm size you brought ?

    • @MrGMCMotorhome
      @MrGMCMotorhome  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I used the 178mm H4 housings and they worked great with the stock retaining rings.

    So how are they doing 2 years later?

    • @MrGMCMotorhome
      @MrGMCMotorhome  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question! They are working great. The bulbs are still working and the glass senses are holding up well too, no chips or discoloration.
