This host has a naturally, friendly, infectious personality. This was so nice to watch. I can do the menu she mentioned too, just the Callaloo with some rice and stew chicken and I'll add some home made lime pepper sauce. The finished product looks amazing. 💯
@eatahfood where have you'll been hiding Chrisal? She's a natural. You'll need to have Chrisal do more videos. She's not only funny but she's taking the time to explain as she goes along. Can't wait to see more of Chrisal!
I dont generally watch videos past 7 mins but I watched this here to the end. I don't cook nor do I like the idea of cooking either. This lady is inspiration.
Where have you been hiding Chrisal Martin? This was one of your best videos, she is very engaging, she told stories about the dish and her childhood memories, she grabbed the viewer attention, she spoke clearly as she explained what Callaloo is, no moment of silence, and she always talking about the dish and the process, most important she plugged the sponsor at the key moments, I could go on and on about this lovely lady; I think many will agree with me when I say we need to see her on more!! Great job ♥️🙏
The reason why your grandmother took all sections of the leaf and threw away the stem, is because you are cooking with Taro leaf, which when cooked with its' stems/veins incorrectly gives you itchy throat. So by throwing away all the veins in taro leaf, your grandmother eliminated the itchy throat 'syndrome'-clever lady. Fiji Indians also have a similar dish like Callaloo and it is called 'Raro'. Leaves cooked in garlic, onion and bit of cumin and then added with cocoanut milk and left to simmer-delicious. So interesting to see various other vegetables added to your dish.
Anybody else here happy to finally learn wat callaloo is? I heard bout it in an episode of the Cosby show many moons ago and am a huge lover of Caribbean food. But I had nvr heard of this before then and am just now learning what it is. Ty & me love the channel. Peace & blessings & big up ya self! Definite rate! Respect ✊. Happy I subbed to the channel since me watch the geera shrimp video. Bless up eatahfood!
I LOVED every minute of this video! We need to have Chrisal back for more cooking sessions, she's funny and so natural on camera and engaging. ... I have to try your technique as i don't usually make mine this way
She is a delight to watch and listen to...made the experience special .. Her nature and spontaneity wins one's heart straight away. looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Thank you.
So it had to take a search of different ways to cook callaloo for me to see my neighbor whom I haven't seen in yeaaarrrrsss and lived just 2 streets away lol! Hi Chrisal! Nice to see you doing your thing
Juxtaposing "quintessential" with "I does"...what a perfect mix, just like the callaloo! I approve! Warm, down to earth, using Trini colloquialisms...yass girl! Can Chrisal please come back to make a baked BBQ chicken or cou cou?
Yes indeed ... coocoo was supposed to be on last Sunday's menu but i backed out and made a corn pie instead yes... didn't have the courage or energy for all that stirring!
I am from your neighbour little island, Grenada. Have lived in the UK, on & off for most of my life and as I approach my dotage so long for Caribbean cuisine. Cassava, callaloo (soup) okra, salfish and bakes. So happy I found this channel & your good self. Just loved the accent & expressions, I nearly had a tear. Just gorgeous. Please present some more cooking recipes.
Love her videos! She is totally engaging and genuine. Keep using the Trini dialect girl. It adds the extra taste in the local dishes that you present. Blessings.
Endless flavour and spice in that "Chrisal" voice!!! For sure that Callaloo must taste delicious and full of flavour too! Recipe directions were were easy to follow. Full speed ahead lady!❤❤
OMG, looks so tempting. I’ve always heard of callaloo from my Trini friends, but never had pleasure of tasting it. I just know that I’m going to enjoy this. I have a little challenge finding callaloo bush where I live in New York, but I’m going to look for it. I have to try making this mouthwatering dish that you made. I’m vegetarian, will enjoy it anyway. I love your spirit my dear. You’re a joy to watch. Thank you for sharing your delicious recipes.🙏🏽🙏🏽💕💕
Check Caribbean, Asian or Hawaiian market or supermarket...... ask for Taro leaves. If you're in the hot south you can buy plants online or in a plant shop and grow them yourselves. Or use regular spinach instead.
Chrisal girl love you💖 yuh leave out de pepper 😄 no worries, add it in anytime. I love the stories about grandmother sorry she's not around to see you cook. The swissell stick does it well 'what ah get meh self in' thanks producer! Girl the hand blender is the way to go. Waiting for you again I totally love watching you, blessings my dear 🌷💖
Goodmorning Crisal and Badawi, i am. Watching this episode at 4am. First of all what energy your chef brings to the show, great execution. Those knife skills are BOSS. Hope to see more of Chrisal. Keep well all.
Oh gosh! You know how long I waitin' fuh this! Lol. Chrisal you are a Godsend and a natural. I hope we'll be getting more segments from you in the future. Eatahfood finds the best people to present the best recipes. Love from London!
Greetings! Sista, I must say your Callaloo dish looks so DELICIOUS 😋...and easy to follow. And, might I add, your personally is the BOMB!! THE BEST EVER!! Real down-to-earth!! Just like home (country talk) and very comfortable and music 🎵 to my ears. Keep up the awesome good vibes. I will definitely try this (my vegan way). I will make a few changes to fit my taste. Nuff Blessings to you into the future 🥗😋💗
Beautifuly done 👌🏻 In India we make similar recipe with Spinach and other green leafy vegetables individually and all mixed together too. Ingredients are almost the same except for pumpkin and okra. We don’t use pumpkin and okra in leafy veggies. Excited to try this way of making leafy veggie dish. Thank you 😊
yes I used to take out the leaves from the ribs too but your a right, no one has time for that anymore. Now you can get the bush already chopped at the farmer's market
She's a very pretty woman. 😍 I like to burst the hot peppers at the end for a lil heat, then remove it. I also add a few chopped pieces of pimento pepper at the end.
Great video! Sugar? Never head of that. The swizzle stick was all they had back then not because a blender made in more fine. Taking out the ribs of the leaves prevents people from having an allergic reaction it makes the throat and skin itchy.
Hi Chrisal, I love your videos you are so funny yet teachable. Now subscribed to your channel. I love the spagetti with tuna. Going and try that. I love how you make your callaloo but I learnt it entirely different from my mum. Keep up the great work on your food channel.
Watching this delightful video. Question abt the stalks, wouldn't that take longer to cook down than the leaves so could go in before? But i like your step by step, will be sure to try some of your variation as every Sunday is some issue with me and this callaloo!😅
@@chrisalmartin5567 thanks, My mum no longer cooks but she was a purist who striped the stalks, & removed the veins from the leaves. Her callaoo was always divine... but who have time for that when your life is a whole lot of multi-tasking. I also have a cousin who has mastered the art of pressure cooking the callaloo. That one is a technique for the quick and dirty!😎
@@simia7038 yesss veins...I couldn't remember the word so I said rib 🤣🤣🤣. My mom does it in a pressure cooker actually but you work with what you got 😉😉

Actually the leaves take longer to break down than the stalks but I do tend to add the stalks before when making mine - (baidawi)
Well for me , once you take off the outer layer of the stalks, it cooks or melts faster ☺️ and that's what I saw my grandmother did

The wire one is the Swizzle stick
Love plain callaloo...
That's what I use also. Actual swizzle stick is too hard to clean after using😩

You also add a little ground clove, 2 small bay leaves and take it out before you swizzle.Very flavorful with hot pimento peppers.
