nice bit of history mate, thanks for sharing it. and to think 7 years previous the 50's were refurbished at Doncaster into large logo livery, they looked stunning on the Dawlish sea front from Langstone rock
Stuck my nose into OC last week to have a look from the footbridge by the canal. The Factory is all gone and levelled as is the turntable. Foundations for sidings going in for Crossrail, but no diesels ticking over :-(
So so sad. I spotted in the 80s as a teenager. My house backed onto the Coventry - Leamington line, oh the joy and thrill of hearing and then seeing a 50 Hoover thunder past!
Cheers Bob Strange to think back in 91 The norm for a reasonable quality video camera was a thing so fnn big it sat on your shoulder...now its in a mobile...great stuff
Probably something in your eyeball...!! My first go was with a Ferguson videostar,,like yours a full vhs job,,and did a couple of all liners with it including the old oak one...
There are quite a few class 50s preserved. Indeed, in the last few years, Arriva Trains Wales have used perserved class 50s on and off for scheduled passengers services in the summer.
Yea.... your rite there they were great loco's,,felt a bit eerie there as I only filmed 50028 out of Waterloo a year or so ago & thanks for the comment's
They should have at lest kept a couple of them for posterity. Although having seen a few old Hammersley Iron (Western Australia) locomotive cabs gathering rust, would have loved to save a couple. Would put them on a couple of rail bogies and a chassis, fill out where the engine room was, and it would be my "ornamental greenhouse" lol
Yea I think that's what hurts the most taffy402...Just think what we had 20-30 years ago and now we haft to buy it in.. The one that maybe sticks out more than others is the APT Project !!
pity they didnt cut those duffs in the background instead, nse duffs you just knew the end was comeing, looking forward to minehead though.good vid you dont see much footage like that on the normal dvds.
The real scandal is that they sold the rights/drawings etc for the APT to Sweden. It appeared as the X-train and Sweden then sold it round the world!!!!
but thats this country for ye, nice locos them, my sadest day was donny 1982 the deltic graveyard , my opinion wed av been better keeping the likes of 37, 40, 45, 47, 50, 55, 56, keep them in pristine cond and have exitement on the railways still, i just want to take a tin opener to todays crap
Well sad - I loved the 50's and to see them dumped and unwanted breaks my heart

The two ends of the big logo 50, any idea witch one it is?

Love the bonus of 47530 on the turntable
I used to use a Panasonic M4 full size VHS camera, and I know what you mean. I wonder what we'll be using in another ten years!

My god this video is depressing, and I'm not even old enough to remember them...

Great locomotives shame, At least there are quite a few preserved now!

@cashpanache 50028 was my first cop
He wasn't renowned for spontaneous laughter...

50 039 was the large logo one.
All Old trains are going to died out!!! (Oh god!)
Hell no, FGW's London Depot. I think DB Schenker shut down their freight depot over there though.
Allways a sad sight, but not as sad as rows of 56/58s

its not quite as bad as barry scrap yard but i am a steam man my self but this is quite shocking
someone looks board 3.29 lol
Horrible video, but thanks. My dad took me down to Reading from Derby to see the 50's every summer. Awful to see them in such a state.
how sad! large logo was made for 50's ! look at 47530 at the end you realise how awful the nse livery was!
disappear and60007
Torch this rubbish.
18 of these have been preserved, we don't need any more. We don't even need as many as 18. Cut the rest for scrap!
