- The last open day held at old oak common august 2000, a fantastic open day they had really pulled out all the stops with an amazing line up of exhibits. Those that stayed until the end were treated to a mass start up of almost every loco on site inside and out! It was a phenominal sight and an amazing sound which could never be repeated these days! I have looked on the internet before and never seen that last hour so if you didn't see it enjoy.
Great vid. Loved the mass start up and tones.
We wont see the likes of these open days again. Sadly.
Thanks for sharing. 👍😎
Old Oak Common always put on a good open day , always plenty of locos on shed and always different classes too. It was always a great shed to "bunk"for me, I was never challenged or gobbed off by the shed staff, in fact I remember them being quite the opposite to me personally, I often spoke to the fitters and they were always very knowledgeable and answered my teenage enquiries about the maintenance of the locos etc friendly like . Old oak, now all but a memory, a shadow of its former self. I used to sit on the bank next to the turntable and watch the goings on . I miss those days 😢.
Wonderful bit of video, that last hour or so looked fantastic!! Whose idea to put the claggiest locos inside and start them all up!!
I don't remember it being planned particularly but everything that ran was started inc hymeks and westerns around the turntable and the fgw& virgin 47s in the yard as well. Wouldn't get away with that these days!
