For anyone who is watchng this video and thinking of doing their own hardcore run here's a fun tip. The bit where Ellie is opening the CEC doors, you DO NOT HAVE TO FIGHT ANY OF THE NECROS there. Just run around till she opens the door. Read this somewhere online, and then tried it myself. Thank me later! :)
Okay quick tip for the elevator section with all the tripods, the detonator is your best friend, grab like 20 rounds for it (or more if your aim is off) stand in the middle and it takes one shot per tripod, not only does it reduce risk of death but if you kill them all you get an achievement for it
Nice video, did this a few years back myself. I used the plasma cutter and the force gun, a fully upgraded force gun can shred anything to pieces and even before that it even if it doesn't kill enemies will push them back giving you some much needed breathing room.
Honestly not a bad idea. I hadn't touched the game in over 10 years, so I didn't even remember what that gun did until I played it casually after this run lol. Good call!
Now that we have DS remake, DS2 is by far the easiest one to get the hardcore achievement done on. No permadeath = easy, especially since throughout the entire series you only die to environmental hazards rather than enemies... unless you suffer from major skill issues, some rocket hits you in DS3 or you're playing DS3 on impossible rather than hardcore, on that difficulty enemies are finally able to kill you if you don't plan your moves. Still, DS2 hardcore is a piece of cake in comparison, and a pretty easy achievement overall. 1.4% users got it for a reason, try Halo LASO (0.05%) and tell me about it.
Hardcore is such a pain, but a fun challenge. my saves were first after the solar beam; second one before eye poke; third one was the last save station in DS 2. There were so many deaths between the start and flying through the beam debris I had the opening memorized and could play the first half crying. Most of the deaths were sponsored by Fragile Window TM: We shatter and suck out all your hopes and dreams.
Talk about pushing your saves to the absolute limit 😂 I definitely couldn't have waited that long between saves. You're a legend for that. I'll be calling my window guy to get him to look at the station, cause I agree with you. My subsequent playthroughs had that happen too 😂
I've been an achievement hunter myself since 2011, and I recently started a new thing called Completions only with my brother, which we started 2020 a little before covid, so seeing these videos really make me happy to know achievement hunting isn't dead. This is one of my fav achievements to get.
Note to Xbox players: It'll actually be a lot easier for you in the second half of the game due to the disc swapping creating a temporary save file. In other words, if you can make it to the start of chapter 7 without saving, you'll start at the beginning of chapter 7 if you die, even though you haven't saved. Again, this is TEMPORARY, as the game will send you back to the start of the game if you quit out. You can make good use of this, though, by having that be your "first" save and wait to use your first ACTUAL save in chapter 9 or 10. Two good points to save after that are the start of chapter 13 after you send Ellie away in the ship, and just after the eye poking machine or the start of the final chapter.

0:18 Bit of an error there, hardcore is scaled to survivor difficulty, not the hardest difficulty. Its pretty much equivalent to medium difficulty but with 3 saves.
I didn't think the clarification was needed, but I would say Hardcore has the hardest difficulty *related achievement* in the game. Technically Hard Core enemies are Survivalist level and item drops are Zealot level, so you are correct in that the enemies are not the highest scaled enemies in the game. When you mix in the stress though, I'd say it's the hardest difficulty, but that's just based off my experience. I did know you change the direction of the plasma cutter, I just prefer the horizontal cut to the vertical one, but you're right that there are moments where it makes more sense to swap over. Sorry for the level two trigger lmao
I recently gotten into Hard Core a few days ago. Not the first time, but this year's a start. I'm planning on getting an additional DLC with the weapons I mainly use to beat the game. I suggested myself to get the Supernova Pack because of the Contact Beam, Ripper, and the Forged Engineering Suit. But yeah, I can tell that the mode is for those who are absolutely ready and mentally trained. I saved at the end of chapter 5 where I'm about to see Daina. My next save will hopefully be around chapter 9, then on either chapter 11 or halfway into 13. Speaking of 13, the Reconstruction Room is a tricky one, but I would stasis 2 of those spinning things. A maxed out stasis will definitely help, but you'll only have a 4-second window to get to the next room.

Great run, man! I love the dead space series so much and it's always entertaining seeing someone suffer-I MEAN....enjoy the game...lol Seriously tho, well done.
I got this achievement. The only unfair parts are the needle in the eye and the final boss. The needle in the eye is so bullshit it doesn’t matter how accurate you are at the beginning, only the last few millimeters matters and Issac’s eye moves so much you can only try at random. The final boss teleports close to you, but depending on where you are, she can spawn right in front of you, killing you instantly. The good thing is that both of those parts are at the very end, you just need to make sure that you save right before the needle machine, or even before that because there’s a black hunter (the regenerating necromorph) that kills you in two hits, not to mention that the killing blow can sometimes animation-lock you when you would be able to dodge or heal. I played on pc and only used the plasma cutter and assault rifle I did it back in the days because I liked the game. But now that I grew up, I don’t recommend doing it, not if you have better things to do with your life
I know this video is old, but here is how i did it. Twice by the way: First safe beginning of chapter 7 When you are at the end of chapter 7, just run in circles because as long as you don´t kill an necromorph, there won´t coming more. My second safe i used at the USG Ishimura in chapter 10 To be safe some use it in chapter 9 in the Tripod Nest My last safe i used, right before i eye poke machine.
I'm at 12:05 did you not realise/remember that you can hit/stomp the corpses of enemies to get them to drop items? It makes a HUGE difference in how ammo and consumables you have.
I hadn't played the game in like 12 years, and without a guide I completely forgot. I did the remaining achievements after this video went up, and that's when I realized I was leaving resources all around the station lol
One saving grace is that this mode combines the 2 hardest difficulties; survivalist (2nd hardest) and zealot (hardest). In hardcore you take survivalist damage but zealot drops (ammo, credits, health). So technically this challenge could be even harder if you just play it on zealot with 3 saves.
But then you wouldn't get a cool achievement! But you're right, this is (in my opinion the hardest difficulty) not the hardest possible dead space 2 challenge, but the 3 saves restriction of hardcore makes the overall challenge harder then a standard zealot run IMO
The hard to the core challenge was tough. My safe spots was after the 2nd disc change, somewhere inbetween then and second to last and my final save was at the last chapter. There was even a moment where i was at the last chapter and didnt like my inventory and restarted the entire run. My weapons were plasma, pulse and contact thats it no 4th weapon
@morgansbasement yeah plus only having 3 weapons does help alter the drops from enemies a bit. But I think that even though this was a challenge. Dead space 3's hard-core mode is actually tougher due to the jank and no controlled saves to fall back on.
I beat hard to the core couples months ago my first save was at chp 10 before you enter the ishurma 2nd save before the drill ride one of the hardest part in ds2 my last save before the eye machine that part hectic died alot on the final boss but after the struggle I beat hard to the core 4/25/2023 congratulations brother keep it up I finish outlast I on insane without reloading the battery that was much pain 😭😭 but got it done ✅👍

@@cajunfries6955 Just trying to share my achievement hunting journey! After seeing people like Snamwhiches, Nick_ar, and Straydog, I was feeling the motivation to do the same. It's been fun so far!
Due to deadspace 2 having a newgame plus i have done a playthrough almost every weapon individually, only kenisis, but he javilin launcher fully upgraded makes the game a comedy. Was the challenge to also not rotate the plasma cutter? The ubermorph it can be faux killed by having a door close on it or pushing it down a infinite fall cant respawn if its falling
LMFAO no that wasn't part of the challenge 😂. I did rotate it, but I prefer the horizontal slice, so most of the footage that was used just happens to have that
lost chapters worth of progress because whoever decided to put a save station next to the store screwed me up and backing out of the save station somehow teleported me into a wall felt so discouraged after that
I remember going for this achievement a few months after the game came out. I played the game multiple times kinda memorized all the enemies where they would spawn and got pretty far during the time. I think I was on disc two with the free check point had all three of my saves because I was saving them closer to the end and when I got to the AI room everything was going good then the power went out and I sat there in the dark thinking whelp that’s it 😅 haven’t gone for it since
Dude I had my power go out a few days before attempting this, so I had that fear the whole time LOL. Thankfully I didn't have it happen. I think you run this back and clean it up. It's literally fate at this point
i found hard core rather easy with just a plasma cutter and then a contact beam in the end (fully upg, ch13+), died once bc i got pushed out of bounds by 2 enhanced slashers in ch9. ch7 free dive, the laser room, eye surgery, final fight and the bit after all had me scared sh#tless everything else i was not scared at all. my saves were at beginning of ch3, beginning of ch7, ch13. i did it all in 1 day. everyone says that this was too hard and painful on them, i found it relaxing. i did a zealot training run ng+ beforehand
It sounds like you prepared properly haha. I hadn't played the game in like 12 years, so I forgot simple tricks like stepping on corpses for ammo/health. It was also the first pseudo-permadeath mode I had played, so with only 2-3 hours available after work, it was so stressful knowing I couldn't try again if I died. But ultimately, I think this is the easiest permadeath run I've done now, and being able to zoom through zealot with the foam finger afterwards, was hilarious lol
I forget what the guns called but I had the sniper rifle with maxed out damage. Its ridiculous one shotting necromorphs in the chest but i aint complaining. Final boss was dead in under 30 seconds.
@@morgansbasement lmao, my final save was just before you had to fix that thing for Ellie and go through necromorph central. I could respec and upgrade any gun I liked and buy enough ammo to take an army and landed on the sniper which one shot everything
@@OriginalTrapstar I've never actually finished Dead Space 1, so I'm really excited to run through the game blind on impossible mode. That will definitely be happening on the stream!
@@morgansbasementawesome man I’m running my trial on hard (pause) to get practice in for my impossible run with the remake. I got your notifications up so hopefully I’ll be able to tune in between work when you start bro!
This was my first "tough" achievement that I hunted on the channel, and I wasn't used to having limited time to attempt these. I will agree with you, this achievement is far more enjoyable than Mein Leben
I did it and it was pretty ez but I accidentally died once on that one part where the guy ambushes you once you open the door because i was on my phone bc I forgot it was a QTE and not just a cutscene
The actual game isn't too hard, I agree. I hadn't played since 2011, so I definitely got caught off guard a few times. If I could've played for 2 days straight then It would've been very low stress. The hardest part of this achievement is juggling game time and life time lol. Luckily I didn't get caught slipping on my phone haha
Much better than the stupid permadeaths in other games, at least saving saves some portion of time. But if you ask me, a game shouldn't have permadeaths on situations that have instant death or the on rails parts where it needs trial and error which is harder than the actual game, all makes permadeath pointless.
I played easy mode like 8 times to know the lay out before I did my run.. I know the stress of the bs of this.. I did it with out dying once.. if I would have died I probably would have been the same way
This achievement I was able to get in one day and night. You want a real challenge? Play the game Bioshock 2 on its hardest level without saving once. beat the game to get the balls of steel achievement . That's hard, because Bioshock 2 is a long long game.
The hardest part if the dead space achievement is trying to juggle work and irl commitments haha. But I've done wolfenstien 2 mien leben and max Payne 3 hardcore new York minute at this point. Those are significantly harder than bioshock 2 imo. But I do have the brass balls achievement! I I can't fully remember the difficulty though
@@marquisecollins2122 I went in blind and it took me like 5 or 6 attempts, so you'll definitely beat it faster than me. BTW if you want to plat dead space 3 you should get the coop achievements soon, because those servers could be shut down in the near future
I'm so happy they allow you the option to reload on the lower difficulty instead of a massive middle finger you gotta start over. Because even if you failed they give you the opportunity to still enjoy the experience
Now that the game is fresh in my mind, I think I could do it without much of an issue. The hardest part is just working in permadeaths around other life stuff lol
See I don’t have think I could play a game like that lol I get attached to whatever character I’m playing as and having to make a new one every time it dies it’s no wonder why I haven’t gotten into D&D lol
On the off chance this gets seen, if you need extra help (because the game certainly isn't weighted in your favor) you can duplicate infinite power nodes after the first boss if you don't progress too far, you only get one chance to do it so make it count , like i said thr game is not in your favor
When I was a broke little boy from a third world country, I pirated this game when it came out and played through it so many times, that at some point I heard of this achievement and managed to do it... obviously since the game was cracked I didn't get anything but my own congratulations lol. IIRC I did it with only two saves, first save was ay chapter 7, and the second one was at chapter 12 because I was reserving a save just in case for the last 3 chapters as I hated the regenerating percomorphs, and the amount of other necros the game throws at you is just retarded after that.
I remember in High School waiting in line with my friend and his dad the night this game came out because he said he wanted to played the "Space Resident Evil 2"
I did all of these back on Xbox, then rebought them on PC and sadly learned that both 1 n 2 cheevs are no longer on steam. *edit* Wait load a save? no this was like the 1st one you had 3 save 1 life - and if you died it deleted the save and you had to start all over. Wtf?
That's so lame that the achievements aren't available on steam! I'm not sure what the edit is about, but if you're asking about Hardcore difficulty then it works like this: You get 3 saves to place where ever you want, and if you die you can choose to reload. There isn't a forced start from the beginning mechanic. I believe only Dead Space 3 and the Dead Space remake have that
I can definitely believe it. The hardest part is keeping your nerves in check. If you're as solid as concrete, then I can definitely see you clapping Hadcore
*-Gets shot 6 times without reacting* *-Pays attention and reacts accordingly-* *-Remains oblivious, gets shot again and dies* *"Wait, WUUUT?! Those things insta-kill you?!"* Mhm. "Insta-killed".. riiiighhhtt. Lmfao
Try dead space 3 its even more challenging u have to beat the whole game without dying ngl its pretty easy once you get that blackout gun bc its overpowered asf its basically the devils horns younger cousin
@@morgansbasement yet the checkpoint would have been fine? I get it is built in the hardware, but it's no different from leaving your console on over night.
One was included in the game, one wasn't. They're not the same thing. I don't care if people use it, I just didn't want to for this video. It's not a big deal 😂. I also take a few days between attempts, so it could be on for a few days. I've had games crash like that before. It chalks the mental when that happens
I think I said that I haven't played this game since 2011 and showed my achievements to verify that in the first 10 seconds of the video haha. So it wasn't my first playthrough, but it's not exactly fresh in my mind lmao
There is a "standard" thumbnail for achievement videos, so I'm slowly making changes over time to differentiate my content. I've got some cool ideas to try out in the future, so we'll see how that blows over! And I'm glad you enjoyed!
This is really easy once you beat the game 1 or 2 time to have a idea what going to happen because nothing changes besides damage and ammo count You safe on on 7 10 and 13 the best way to beat the game

@@morgansbasement I've tried many times without using stasis, and succeeded twice. But in my opinion, slowing them down helps. 👌
Great run, man! I love the dead space series so much and it's always entertaining seeing someone suffer-I MEAN....enjoy the game...lol

Thanks, Lewis! I'm gunning for it bro!
I played on pc and only used the plasma cutter and assault rifle
I did it back in the days because I liked the game. But now that I grew up, I don’t recommend doing it, not if you have better things to do with your life
I wish I had kept a save for the very end. I would've saved hours of time if I had lol
thats why you need to use the Graviton Accelerator, you can send everything in your path flying
This is great video! So much stress, anxiety, fails, but you got it! You have my cheers and sub)
I really appreciate that! Welcome to the basement!
29:40 made me Laugh. Simply touching an object going the direction you're going kills you, apparently.
I was blown away when that happened lol
That Mass Effect music hits nostalgia man.
"The collectors are about to find out what happens when you piss me off"
I know this video is old, but here is how i did it.
Twice by the way:
First safe beginning of chapter 7
When you are at the end of chapter 7, just run in circles because as long as you don´t kill an necromorph, there won´t coming more.
My second safe i used at the USG Ishimura in chapter 10
To be safe some use it in chapter 9 in the Tripod Nest
My last safe i used, right before i eye poke machine.
@@morgansbasement
You unintentionally did the hardcore Hardcore run, lol.
@@LSB001 Sometimes it has to be that way lool
One saving grace is that this mode combines the 2 hardest difficulties; survivalist (2nd hardest) and zealot (hardest). In hardcore you take survivalist damage but zealot drops (ammo, credits, health). So technically this challenge could be even harder if you just play it on zealot with 3 saves.
But then you wouldn't get a cool achievement! But you're right, this is (in my opinion the hardest difficulty) not the hardest possible dead space 2 challenge, but the 3 saves restriction of hardcore makes the overall challenge harder then a standard zealot run IMO
@@morgansbasement true. The game is still full of insta deaths.
@@friendlyreaper9012 I had a ton of fun doing this!

[Eyeball surgery scene]
Me: Well I won't be getting this game.
I forgot how terrifying that scene was until I played the game for this achievement lol
That legit is the single only reason I will not play this despite being a 1 and 3 Veteran
Waiting until the disc change for a save is wild. Congrats on getting through it without getting owned!
@morgansbasement yeah plus only having 3 weapons does help alter the drops from enemies a bit. But I think that even though this was a challenge. Dead space 3's hard-core mode is actually tougher due to the jank and no controlled saves to fall back on.
you’re definitely from michigan with those “ope”
I don't know what you mean, but I'm from Canada 😂
Pipes round here are thrown exceeding well!
BRO LOL
I usually use the force gun and plasma cutter on Hard Core attempts.
The force gun is the shotgun right? That might've been helpful near the end with all the close quarter fights 😂

I did rotate it, but I prefer the horizontal slice, so most of the footage that was used just happens to have that
lost chapters worth of progress because whoever decided to put a save station next to the store screwed me up and backing out of the save station somehow teleported me into a wall
felt so discouraged after that
Omfg I would die. If you haven't gone back to finish, you should definitely do it. I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT
wasn't that a chapter 8?
Plasma cutter and Javelin gun were my friends. I aiso saved on 5, 11 and 13, that was a mistake on my part though, didnt die, just chose wrong.
Sounds like you were too good. That's the shit I like to hear
@@morgansbasement Yeah, pretty much a Dead Space veteran, love the games
I wish I had known that at the time haha
@@morgansbasement lmao, my final save was just before you had to fix that thing for Ellie and go through necromorph central.
I could respec and upgrade any gun I liked and buy enough ammo to take an army and landed on the sniper which one shot everything
@@breadchips4803 That's some smart planning lol, I didn't consider doing that
When i did this, my saves were start of chapter 9, start of chapter 13 and start of chapter 15
Not saving till chapter 9 feels so risky haha, especially if you hadn't played the game in 10+ years. Your balls are bigger than mine lmao

Too scared to play dead space but nice video
This game is really fun if you can manage the horror aspects! I recommend it for sure!
At least it gives you limited saves. Makes it manageable.
Mein leben on the other hand sucks.
I completely agree. Anytime you have to worry about QTE or insta kill encounters, permadeath modes become silly
I played easy mode like 8 times to know the lay out before I did my run.. I know the stress of the bs of this.. I did it with out dying once.. if I would have died I probably would have been the same way
Nice work going in so prepared! I thought I was good enough to do it with 0 knowledge, but I was wrong 😂

The hardest part if the dead space achievement is trying to juggle work and irl commitments haha. But I've done wolfenstien 2 mien leben and max Payne 3 hardcore new York minute at this point. I beat the game on zealot a few times but could never finish hardcore. I was able to beat the remake first try on the hardest difficulty tho
I still need to beat the remake on Impossible mode, but it sounds way harder than DS2. If you can do that, then you can do Hardcore!

This was hard at first now every now and then I’ll redo it and it’s easier, totally Worth it to get the hand cannon.
Now that the game is fresh in my mind, I think I could do it without much of an issue. The hardest part is just working in permadeaths around other life stuff lol

Thankfully this game doesn't feel too bad on the controller, but some of the other games were way sketchier
I know a mouse is precise but it's not difficult on a controller
On the off chance this gets seen, if you need extra help (because the game certainly isn't weighted in your favor) you can duplicate infinite power nodes after the first boss if you don't progress too far, you only get one chance to do it so make it count , like i said thr game is not in your favor

Low key, I think it's a pretty good strategy, but having the contact gun would've helped on that chapter 14 haha
Not using the 3rd save is criminal 😂 good for you though
That guy at 2:32 is actually invincible and if you tryn kill him without stasising him you'll die no matter what

I believe only Dead Space 3 and the Dead Space remake have that
@@morgansbasement Damn, Im gonna have to relook.
