- Farmall 460 with a bad motor in disguise. Dan Gingell from J&D Productions explains how somebody tried to pull a fast one and disguise a bad motor by deadening a spark plug. This is something to watch out for when purchasing a tractor.
That's just plain evil for someone to do that! It is most likely a spun rod bearing. If I had bought that tractor, the seller and I would have a real serious discussion after I found that, as with the plug gap flattened, it was obviously intentional.
I got lucky a couple years ago, bought a farmall H that had a really bad miss, I figured new plugs points and wires would fix it, but it didn't. Decided i would pull the head and found the luckily it was just a bent pushrod, got a good used pushrod and put in it, and it runs like a new one now, but i do consider myself lucky, the problem could've been deeper in the engine
@ostrand11 Yes, the TA is either going bad or bad in Farmall/IH tractors.
That is not a broken rod or wrist pin that thing would keep on hammering away even if you pull the plug wire.
Had 11 Farmall tractors over my farming years, never had to repair a TA. Don't free wheel them and change hyd. filters yearly.
What about if the Tractor runs good with the choke on and once the engine warms up and then then when you turn the choke off then the engine has a slight miss could that be a carb problem or something to do with the Magnetto
Grounded the plug so it couldn't fire. That's evil.
or did the piston hit it due to the spun bearing???
we haad that problem kinda with a cub and the gas line was getting heating and it was boiling the fuel and it would not run warm
bought a farmall super m from a guy named kirby sauer from Cuero,Texas who does this to his tractors. buyer beware!!
Good very 👍
