  • Here I show how the Dyson V11 works, and offer tips on how to get the most out of the vacuum. It's high-end, expensive, and very versatile.

    Best review yet. I liked that you are talking while using the vacuum and other reviewers lack that. Now I get an idea of how loud the V11 can get.

    This is the first cordless vacuum I have ever used. I had some professionals come and clean the house after we had a remodel done. I fell in love with the Dyson vacuum. In addition, they used an O Cedar mop. Loved it also and had to pick one up.

    We just got this about 6 months ago. We have 3 cats and a rough collie, and let me tell you....it’s been performing great! We do need to clean the roller every couple weeks, the dogs hair is long and wraps the roller. We use it at least every other day. I have mobility issues and strength issue- I can use this!

    • @sunneedaizz781
      @sunneedaizz781 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      there's a problem when dog hair wraps around the roller instead of being sucked into the machine. i have yet to discover that one machine that does what it's supposed to do. affordable, quality; if it is bagless i don't have to stick my hand inside the debris canister to remove the dirt; having to take the canister apart to clean it frequently and having difficulty putting it together.

      May I ask, is the battery detachable or fixed? ( I'm thinking about second battery to make sure when I vac the whole house I can finish in one go.)

    • @165Dash
      @165Dash 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      BlueHeadLizard
      For all practical purposes the V11 battery is fixed. It is not like a cordless power tool where you can have multiple batteries and drive screws on the job site all day long...recharging as you go. Dyson DOES have a model with change-able batteries (it comes with 2) and a larger capacity dust/dirt bin. I can’t remember the name off-hand but with a little on-line sleuthing you can find. It IS another $200...groan...which for me was a bridge too far. It is also about 2 pounds heavier and the weight on these is up at your hand and wrist...not down at the floor like with an upright. I saw a display model at Best Buy yesterday and pushed it around and found the weight a bit of an issue. I was happy to have gotten the V11 Animal. Shark DOES make cordless stick vacuums with change-able batteries but the one I looked cane with only 1 so I would have had to buy a second on-line.
      After 2 weeks of ownership I am very pleased with the V11 Animal. It is very nimble and easy to maneuver and gets the job done. I have yet to run the battery down and on the mid-suction level...which I have found to be totally satisfactory...supposedly runs 60-plus minutes. Vacuuming is quicker time-wise and with no hunting for outlets and cord wrangling is much more enjoyable. It is quiet enough to listen to music on headphones. Vacuuming stairs...which I absolutely hated before...is much easier. Ease of use has allowed me to just pull it out and do a couple of rooms quickly at a time and in the end the end the house is cleaner. No more “once a week” dreaded Saturday chore while watching the dog hair accumulate on Thursday and Friday...LOL. Dust/dirt bin DOES require emptying every 20 minutes or so but it is very simple to use.

    • @Baffuteagle
      @Baffuteagle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@165Dash thanks for your observations which, after buying the V11 Absolute a couple of weeks back, I entirely agree with. On this version the battery is detachable, but actually even doing the whole house, on the default power setting auto ( mid-suction), the one battery suffices. We have a long haired cat and the V11 absolute does a great job to pick all up the extensive hairs and 'coagulate' them together so they do not 'fly away' when I empty into the bin. Yes bin emptying is frequent as it is small and fills up quick, but its its easy so small negative. The improvement in power, nimbleness, quiet, on our previous 'cable+bag' vacuum cleaner is huge, so there is no going back, a real technology advance, not just a gimmick.
      Yea I read about the larger Dyson model with two batteries, but for me the V11 is at the maximum weight to be comfortable, so I would not consider that model. Perhaps for someone who wants to cancel their musculation gym subscription.
      For weight / nimblemess the V8 is perfect but less power and battery time than the V11.

    How do you think it would do with silky hair strands about 2 feet long, either imbedded in carpet or loose on hard floors? Other vacuums I’ve used get the hair tangled around the rotating part and/or in interior suction pathways and can easily clog. Also what would you say is the largest size debris it can handle, such as candy wrappers for example? Sometimes vacuums suck those up but they clog on the inside.

    • @VacTech1
      @VacTech1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think candy wrappers would clog it before they got to the bin. With most dysons, I say I anything larger than popcorn I would pick up before vacuuming. 2 foot long hair will prolly require cleaning out the brushroll regularly, even if the brushroll is fat and resists tangles. Thanks for watching!

    Hey, nice review! First off, let me say that I really like your reviews and your presenting style, you give a lot of information and you come across as being friendly and helpful. Having said that, I am not a fan of the Dyson stick vacuums. I own a corded Shark Rocket DuoClean HV381 stick vacuum, one of the last DuoClean models they made that has the traditional bristle carpet brushroll that is NOT a Zero M brushroll. I bought it as my present apartment is mostly hard floors with throw rugs and area rugs - have a lower level with a front doorway with hard floor, flight of hardwood stairs, hallway with hard floors, 3 mats to help with sand and dirt, and in my living space hardwood floors with area rugs in my living room and bedroom, tile in the other areas. So a stick vacuum for me is ideal instead of a carrying a upright or canister, although I do keep a Miele canister with a full size powerhead for deep cleans on occasion too. I bought the Shark Rocket HV381 (blue) for $185 CDN refurbished with a 90 day warranty from Factorydirect.ca but they still sell the wine colored HV383 for $350 CDN on the Shark website.
    I recently looked into the Dyson V10 Animal and V11 Outsize in December 2022....I like my Shark Rocket and feel it does a good job, but wanted something with a little more suction and airflow. I initially wanted to look at at the V11 Outsize as it was the first model with a removable battery, but also considered the V10 Animal. I was impressed with both of them in the vacuum shop that was selling them....both had great pickup on hard floor and carpet with the main powerhead. And I also thought it had impressive suction on the High speed setting, Boost mode. However, on the low Eco speed setting and the Normal middle speed setting, I was not impressed and decided not to buy....believe it or not, it's suction and airflow was comparable to my Shark Rocket with clean filters! Not good considering the Dyson V10 Animal sells for $750 CDN new and $500 CDN refurbished.
    The attachments the Shark HV381 comes with are very comparable to the attachments that Dyson includes, as well as the optional attachments you can buy for both the Shark and Dyson models. One tiny advantage I feel the Shark HV380 series has over the Dyson's though is that the Shark takes standard 35mm/1.38 inch European size attachments- I can use any tool my Miele canister has without needing an adapter. and it's easy to find generic European 35mm attachments now too. I only need to use an adapter if I want to use 32mm/1.25 inch North American size attachments. For the Dyson's, you need to use an adapter even for standard 32mm/1.25 inch North American size attachments, only their own tools or copycat clone tools will fit without needing to use an adapter. I prefer the DuoClean powerheads on the Shark models as well, I like that the fluffy brushroll is built into the powerhead and you don't have to switch attachments to the fluffy powerhead like you have to do on the Dyson's if you prefer to use that style of brushroll on your hard floors. The fluffy brushroll on the Shark gets ALL the fine dust on the floor, there is no residue after cleaning, comparable to how a Dyson would perform on hard floors with the fluffy powerhead. In fact, I don't think the previous Shark models that only have the traditional bristle brushroll powerheads wouldn't clean nearly as well on hard floors. I am not as convinced as you are on the cleaning ability of the main Dyson powerhead on hard floors, I think it does leave a little residue behind on the floor. Hopefully, Dyson will consider designing a similar floorhead as the Shark's when their patent expires on it.
    I also like that on the Shark HV380 series you can remove the dirt cup entirely from the vacuum to empty it into the garbage if you prefer. And although some would look at this as a disadvantage, I actually prefer that Shark vacuums have NO cyclonic system and you have the foam and felt filters that need to be cleaned to maintain cleaning performance. I find I can get away with cleaning the top foam filter after 3 or 4 full dirt cups, and the felt filter I just keep a eye on and wash with dish soap probably once every 2 months. I agree with your note at the end of the video on the Dyson's cyclone system and how the empty holes could become clogged, I don't like how on the Dyson models you can't easily dismantle the cyclone and wash it out without removing lots of screws and gingerly handling it to make sure plastic bits don't break. I had a friend who had the same Dyson V6 you compared the V11 to at the end, and he had a dirty, slightly moldy smell whenever he turned it on. Even after washing the pre filter with dish soap, the smell still stuck. Only after I took apart the cyclone assembly and washed it for him did the smell go away entirely. The fact the cyclone assembly on the Dyson clones is far easier to take apart and clean, and the Shark models having no cyclones to maintain and maintaining the filters instead, is a advantage to me. I hope Dyson addresses this on a future model in the future. I also wish Dyson would come up with a battery pack case with a cord attached to convert their stick vacuums to corded models. Some people need the extra runtime to clean their house that a corded model can deliver, and it also ensures the vacuum can still work and be used if the battery packs are discontinued and the ones with the vacuum are dead. Hopefully Dyson develops something like this in the future.
    Finally, one REALLY BIG REASON I chose not to consider Dyson is their warranty service. Here in Canada, you cannot have their stick vacuums serviced at a local vac shop that sells Dyson vacuums. You have to call Dyson and have them assist you over the phone to solve whatever issue you are having with the vacuum, and if it cannot be fixed by the customer service agent guiding you while making an adjustment or sending out a replacement part, you have to ship the entire vacuum back to their facility in Canada for repair. I have to wonder, in fact, if this is how Dyson has so many refurbished models for sale- they send you a new one and refurbish your old one perhaps? Just a thought. You also cannot buy a genuine Dyson replacement battery at one of the authorized Dyson vac shop dealers, they can only source and sell generic aftermarket batteries. You expect this kind of customer service and warranty work when you buy a Shark or some other lower end brand!
    The only disadvantage I feel the Shark Rocket HV380 series has over the Dyson stick vacuums is they have no HEPA Filter on the exhaust- only a cloth exhaust micro filter that is like the Miele Super Air Clean exhaust micro filter that is included with a box of bags. Shark states in their instruction manual to wash the exhaust filter yearly, and not to worry if it is discolored, it is normal. For me, I prefer to have the cleanest exhaust air possible, and that is just not realistic to expect to wash a filter like that and expect it to fully restore it's filtering performance. Since I use a HEPA Filter on my Miele canister vacuum, I just cut a Miele Super Air Clean filter to size, and replace every 3 months. They work just as well, and I like that you are starting with a fresh filter every time you replace it. Sure, the Dyson stick vacuums are nice, and do a great job cleaning and have lots of power. BUT, when you consider you can buy TWO Shark HV381 stick vacuums for the price of ONE Dyson V10 Animal, they have just much suction and airflow as the Dyson does on it's Normal speed setting and cleans just as well, and some of the disadvantages and warranty issues I pointed out, I just cannot justify spending the money on the Dyson when the Shark cleans just as well for 1/2 the price. Maybe once they address some of those issues, I may reconsider in the future, but for now I am just as pleased with my Shark Rocket HV381 and sticking to them. I like it so much in fact I actually bought a spare used one at Value Village for $15 CDN!

    Just bought the Dyson v11 animal+ from costco after watching this review. Was really looking forward to the soft dusting tool, but it didn't include it. Now looking at the box it doesn't show it in the tools and accessories pictures, and another review mentioned it only comes in the torque edition? I really wanted to get cat hair off my keyboard 😅

      That's a shame. Costco often sells different variants of Dyson vacuums, so maybe their version doesnt include it. I think the soft dusting brush is pretty cheap on Ebay, but make sure its genuine and has the red button (so it fits your V11).

  • @teeeff8337
    @teeeff8337 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This was an awesome review, great job! I do have a question- I know that certain batteries die faster (as in completely stop working altogether or just don’t hold a charge as long) if you keep them on the charger once fully charged. Example: when I keep my cell phone pulled in over night, every night, when it’s 100% fully charged, my battery dies faster over time. Is this an issue with keeping this dyson on its docking station while it’s fully charged, when not in use? I always thought once it’s fully charged, you unplug it to preserve the overall battery life.

    • @VacTech1
      @VacTech1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Dyson's charger stops charging, once the battery is full. It's designed to be kept on the charger between use. The batteries in these are also made to last a long time (supposedly several years). Thanks for the nice comment!
