    Hello everyone and welcome back to Brink of Speed.

    Today, I wanted to share with you a product that was recommended to me by a few of my subscribers and I feel like it is the best and cheapest mod that you can do for your C7 Corvette. I'm talking about Range Technology. This little device is great and will completely eliminate Cylinder Deactivation in a GM car or truck. Of course in this case in my 2015 C7 Z06 Corvette.

      Driving in manual mode with the paddles, eliminates V4 mode. If we had a manual transmission, we would be required to shift. Why not use the paddles 100%? Your thoughts.

    • @Brett_Nebraska
      @Brett_Nebraska 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does putting the Corvette into track or sport mode turn off the v4 mode or does the v4 kick in regardless of driving mode (unless you're in manual)?

    You are right on. I bought one for my 2016 Z51 3 years ago. I have put over 8000 miles on it and there is no more V4. This is a must buy. Even my Chevy dealer agrees with me.

    When those LED's blink like that, it's telling you what version the firmware is on. So, yours blinked 8 times, then 3 times, then 1 time. Therefore, it's version 8.6.1 - which is the latest release. If you need emissions testing, it needs to be removed and the ECM needs to complete the drive cycles before all emissions readyness monitors are clear. And yes, it can be left plugged in. It turns off when the engine is not running. It has auto-wake when the engine is turned on. It's not recommended to buy via a third-party as it may not have the latest updates.

    I just bought a 2016 Z51 today and it did this shit all the way home (4 hrs) in Sport, Touring, and Eco mode. In manual mode with paddles no issues. Ordered the Range immediately after watching this video tonight. My car has a 30 return policy so really hoping Range fixes my issue.

    It might be good to add, manual trans only go into V4 when in ECO mode. So, this product would not be needed.

    Just bought a 2019 stingray A8 with 11k miles, first ever corvette! After reading up and learning about this AFM issue as well as watching this video, I went on and ordered this Range disabler. I realize this video is a year old but before I receive the unit and install, I just wanted to verify with you as well as your followers of y’all still recommend using this and have not encountered any additional problems with using it. Thank you

      I have a 2015 C7 Stingray A8 with 11k miles as well (yes she's a garage princess lol) Been using this product for over a year and have never had issues. Car always stays in V8 mode and shifts smoothly. I actually refused to drive the car off the lot until I got my Range device to prevent it from going into V4 mode lol also no check engine light. So definitely worth the purchase.

    Best (and only) mod I've done to my 16 Stingray. Was noticing a weird feeling on the freeway during a long road trip after I first got the car. Vibration, rpm going up and down, it just didn't feel right. I noticed it only seemed to happen in V4 mode. Brought it to two different dealerships and they both said nothing was wrong. So I bought this and never looked back. No issues at all. I also bought mine from Amazon. I was unplugging it when parked at first but now I just leave it plugged in. I had the car parked for 2 weeks and it was fine. As far as mileage goes I do mostly freeway driving and right now I have 27 mpg average, I might have lost a few mpg but I can still get 30 just cruising. Couldn't recommend it more to anyone thinking about it.

    My 2018 Stingray 7 speed manual only goes in the V8-V4 mode if you are in Economy. I have the switching cylinders a couple of times. Not worth the effort. Slightest little hill it will go from 4 to 8 cylinders.

    • @CouchMan88

      Seems to be mostly an issue for the auto's. If you have a light foot and do freeway driving especially. Some people say the Chevy trucks start burning oil after a while due to the AFM so I think it's better for the engine not to go into V4 mode but it wont cause a problem with the trans with a stick.

      I use the Range AFM disabler on my 2017 Corvette stingray. On my last extended drive of 360 miles, through small towns, 2 lane back roads, and interstate, I averaged 30.3 mpg in the Touring mode. Average speed was 63 mph. I haven't noticed any degradation of fuel economy and no shifting between V4 and V8 mode!

    Here is what we know to turn the Z06 into something beyond a supercar because it can be daily driven and tracked for 24hrs if you like. This module, heatshield wrap on exhaust, upper pulley on supercharger, cold air intake, DSC controller or coil over suspension. Those mods alone put this car dang close to race category specifically, but only a few people have done them. Randy pobst has never driven these Z06s, and its beyond the handling and power of any porsche from the reports of Katech. Great vid.

      Nobody os paying attention to the development of the C7 series on track. Its like LE MANS LEVEL racing and i am not overstating this. The track times its throwing down with mods are beyond spectacular. The Z06 From Katech is Manthey GT2RS FAST. For less than a quarter the price. Its pulling Gs on turns that are DTLM level. Meaning you need special seats with neck support. This is from a stock chassis. Thats unheard of. Mero was correct to a large degree.

      You can save money by just putting the C7 Corvette in Manual mode. It will always be in V8 mode and if you want it to shift automatically just flip it into drive until you reach the speed you desire. Then just pull it back to manual to lock in V8 mode. Be aware in manual mode you do not have passing gear unless you use the paddle shift

    Mike, some how my Spidery Sense told me you'd be uploading this video. 😉 Why should this device be removed when the Vette is not daily driven? Aside from the fact that like some of us, the Vette's computers talk in their sleep. 😉 Man the wife still asks me, "Who is Stella? 😢 Also, I've read where GM has embedded the AFM coding so deeply that no matter what one does, you can't by-pass or delete same. It's always "active," but with such devices you just don't see physical evidence of same. FWIW, most of we Subscribers don't stand behind you, we stand WITH you. Save the Wave.

    • @BrinkofSpeed
      @BrinkofSpeed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Peter Carey Lol, I wonder how that happened. It supposedly creates a drain on your battery. GM certainly did not do that with the trucks or the C7 Corvette. As you saw in the video it completely got rid of V4 mode. Thank you so much Peter you know I truly appreciate your loyalty and your friendship!😊👍👊

      @@petercarey6883 I'm pretty sure it tricks the ecu into thinking the car is under a load so the AFM wont activate. I can tell it actually works because of how the car drives compared to before. I'm not having any of the issues I was. I'm pretty sensitive to issues on cars. Two dealers told me there was nothing wrong before I installed this, but I 100% feel a difference.

    Does this product cause any warranty issues that you know of? I'm buying a 2019 Stingray z51 with automatic. I bought a new 2016 Stingray with automatic and I notice some shuddering but at low speeds while in auto. It didn't happen all the time. I also was unaware that you could see the V8 turn into V4 in the instrument panel. The dealer said they couldn't find a problem. I was told back in 2016 it went into V4 only when it was in eco mode. I'm also reading about torque converters having problems hence the shuddering. GM I suppose is denying these are problems even under warranty and trying to blame it on the consumer driving habits.

    I was told to purchase a battery tinder and keep your car on the tinder if not daily driving or your battery will die, your $182 battery. That there are so many electronics on the car that Corvettes eat batteries. I purchased the device to save my engine and trans on my 2017 Z06. Have you taken the camber out of your tire/wheels yet? Inner part of front tires go quickly if not.

This only occurs in drive mode, with the back steering pedals it's really smooth gear changing and downshifting. Do you think that it's v4 to v8 sound that my vette is doing. Went ahead and purchased one last Tuesday....

    i just picked up a 2015 z51. i have been watching all the videos about the 4 cylinder kicking in. For some reason mine (automatic) never goes into the 4 cylinder mode or at least it does not show it. it always shows the v8 even in E mode it still displays the v8. any idea what the previous owner may have done to over ride it.

    if Onstar tries to run a diagnostic while this device is plugged in they will know because onstar will notify you they can't run a diagnostic because a device is plugged in to you obd port, so they will detect your vehicle is staying in v8 mode all the time.

      I just bought a Range AFM plugin for my new to me 2016 C7 with the A8 transmission. Since GM totally screwed the pooch with AFM on the A8 transmission, who gives a shit about an Onstar diagnostic? The Jan 2022 class action lawsuit for lifter issues from going in and out of V4 to V8 is the only way GM will even acknowledge the way they hosed consumers. Protect your own engine, get the Range AFM bypass, I’m loving it so far. No battery drain. No more V4. Way Better shifts.

    I got my Range AFM Disabler a few weeks ago and have had zero issues. Does exactly what it says. Two things of note:
    1. You’re better off buying it direct from Range Technology vs. Amazon because you will ensure you get a device with the most current firmware.
    2. The battery drain issue has been fixed through a recent firmware update. I reached out to the company and asked about needing to remove it if I wasn’t driving the car daily and they said:
    “As long as you are not leaving the vehicle for weeks at a time you should be fine to leave the unit plugged into the obd2. If you are leaving it for extended periods of time we recommend to unplug it from the vehicle. Thanks.”

I took it to Chevy they replaced my transmission and driveshaft, belts, fluids seals.🤦🏻‍♂️ under warranty. For free and the squeak was still there!!! Been looking at several reviews with using this device in trucks. Numerous accounts of throwing different codes and check engine lights, would be curious with a longer term review to see if you have any similar issues. Really would like to get one once winter storage time is over but don’t want to damage engine. Also wonder what would happen to car if you didn’t use device when cruising on interstate.

    • @BrinkofSpeed
      @BrinkofSpeed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sk slone i’ve actually not seen anybody post anything about this device throwing codes on a Corvette. I haven’t seen it on trucks either but I haven’t looked very hard at trucks. As far as using or not using this device on the interstate, the interstate is exactly where you need this device because it is more likely to go in the V4 mode on the interstate.
