    Note that this kit has been updated to include the FRM feature. Nothing else has changed, including power usage and install. Some older stock may still be without this feature, depending on where and when you get it. See here for a demo on what FRM does: • FRM Demo feat. ZAS

    Just received mine, the official package is diff. I can tell yours got cherry picked & tested before they sent it to you.
    Build quality on my kit is very much garbo, lots of stress points/ uneven glass as I have backlight leaks top left without installing it.
    I had to remove the metal shield and not use 2 screws on the top, else backlight leaks everywhere with garbo black levels.

    • @makho
      @makho  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      RGRS tends not to cherry pick kits for me (I know from getting defects in the past which is why I tend to test these before even starting the video) but it's possible that OC cherry picked a handful to send to RGRS first and I wouldn't put it past them. However, it's also possible that you just got a bad kit. Have you already reached out to the seller?

    Still waiting for a kit that includes some useful color modes, for example a desaturated mode for use with older GBA and GBC games. Those always look oversaturated on a modern LCD, imo.

    too bad for the fllickering and retention (it distract me a lot personnaly, at any level that i perceive, i hyper focus on it)
    also yeah, the color option is a missed opportunity, they could have put a color correction one, it really look like they have put it just for the sake of putting something for "more options"
    thank for your review, i saw the kit and had a hunch that it could be insatisfying for me
    really hope funnyplaying are able to pull a "perfect kit" one day, i have the 3.0 laminated one and its very close, too bad no integer scalling (an equivalent of their gbc one for gba would be the best)

    Is there a way to bypass or completely remove the touch sensors on these screens for GBC, GBA & GBA SP? I need to perform this process even more so on the GBC as the Pokémon Pinball game causes the sensors to go haywire. PS, my second screen purchase for my other new GBA SP cobalt blue came with the proper wire so I can utilize the backlight button.

    @makho did you had a chance to check power drain on your funnyplaying screen? Low, mid, high settings? I'm interested how those two compare in terms of performance. Random question, but do these screens look noticeably different in picture quality than the OEM ones? I’m just wondering since they are listed as such a high resolution so wouldn’t the games all look weirdly scaled?

    • @makho
      @makho  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You should look into what integer scaling is. The game is the same resolution and since the scaling is using an integer value, there's no weird interpolation.

  • @TheTjtremor
    @TheTjtremor ปีที่แล้ว

    You are moving from 9 to 1 pixel to 4 to 1 pixel with pixel grid, prob higher brightness is needed to make it look good? The only thing I can see negative is being off center. You might get ~1mm-2mm if you trim the bottom lcd plastic (those 4 plastic indents ) and shift the thing to the left ?

    • @makho
      @makho  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can get better centering by doing that, yeah, but it would probably also require modifying the housing too.
      And yeah, to get the same perceived brightness with the pixel grid emulation on, you would have to increase the brightness.

    I thought this ips kit came with the wire to be able to utilize the brightness control button. What gauge is suggested? And what a lot of these videos fail to add, the 5 rubber parts needed to be removed in order to get to the screws when swapping screens, may need replacing as the adhesive doesn’t stick to these parts rather they are sticking to the screws. It was tedious but I had to carefully remove the adhesive from the screws before removing the screws from the shell. Is anyone selling these parts separate from the shells? I’m a little freaked out over this as I spent $600 on a new in the box Kingdom Hearts edition GBA SP 001. all I planed was to update screen and change buttons to clear & transparent black.

    • @makho
      @makho  ปีที่แล้ว

      v2..? This is a different screen than they've used with other kits so it wouldn't be compatible even if I knew what you meant specifically by "v2". I'm not sure why you'd want a non-laminated LCD either when laminated is an option.

    I noticed that in the ips gba sp the with 800 mah battery, the red led comes on too soon, almost 2 hours before shuts down, I will be better if appear 30 minutes before, there's isn't a mod to do this?

    • @makho
      @makho  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really. This is a quirk of the LMO (Lithium Manganese Oxide) battery compatibility. LMO batteries have different voltage curves than modern common Lithium-Ion cells (and especially the Lithium Polymer cell that my mod uses) and so Nintendo originally used LMO batteries in this console and set the low battery warning relatively high to line up with the voltage curve of LMO batteries.
      With a LMO battery, the low power warning lines up approximately with remaining life in the battery but this makes it so LiPo batteries are reported as mostly depleted even though they are at or above approximately half capacity.
      Thankfully the charge profiles are the same between all three types of batteries though (at least at this low current) so aside from the early triggering indicator in some cases, there's no issues swapping between the three chemistries. You do lose some capacity on the low end due to the somewhat high low voltage cutoff too but it's relatively minor and realistically good battery practice so not too big a deal IMO.
