    Jay I received all the parts and tools in the mail and finally finished this awesome build! Looks beautiful and the GBA is so much better with this screen and USB-c charging (which I ordered with my kit) is also an awesome upgrade. The build was great BUT there are a few important notes which I didn't pick up in the video:
    - The plastic shell is a bit softer than the original and does not match very well with the original screws. On the first try it was a pain to fit everything together and required a lot of force to screw everything into place. As a result, the pole which holds the bottom screw inside the battery compartment actually broke off. I managed to glue this back into place with superglue and on the second attempt, with the replacement screws from Hispeedio, everything came together smoothly. I also have one minor crack in another place.
    - I fitted the upper touch sensor right above where the flex cable sits (this is the most natural place to fit the sensor, I believe I also saw it sitting there in Hispeedio's instructions). However, apparently the flex cable interacts with the sensor and causes it to keep switching between screen modes. Very annoying of course, so I opened everything up again and fitted the sensor more to the right side of the GBA. All in all I never use these sensors and would skip them in a next build.
    Hope this helps!

    2:20 Color Pallettes is not dumb! There are some people who have problems with color. Like my friend who loves retro gaming. He has a problem with bright colors especially Neons. Even brightness adjustment can't do anything with his problem. When he saw some reviews about color palettes in gameboys, he didn't hesitate to buy those gameboy screen kits. He prefer the purple and pink palettes for those are not causing him headaches. Sometimes those kit were made by choice or intentional maybe for some people with those kinds of problem.

    it seems like the part that separated from your LCD was just the protective housing. they tend to have a plastic frame and foil backing that protects the panel itself. So that plastic frame probably just came separated from the panel which is laminated to the glass.

    The main problem with the FunnyPlaying v3 kit is the high failure rate. I've build dozen of the V2 GBAs without a single problem, but four out of ten V3 displays where broken or had vertical lines after a few hours of gameplay! And the v3 shells are fragile, don't tighten the screws to hard or they will break!

    So I just completed my GBA laminated screen v5 from hispeedio. Everything seemed good until like an hour later and the brightness setting would not work right. The right and left bumpers wouldn’t increase or decrease the brightness and I couldn’t cycle the other options. Then after a minute it just started cycling through all the options. I’m a little discouraged at the moment so any help would be appreciated. Note I opted for the soldered version.

    • @JakeSimmons
      @JakeSimmons  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My best guess without seeing it is that something is bridging. I would double check that your solder job isn’t touching anything else around it and/or you didn’t pinch any of the wires when you put the shell together. It’s very common for those things to happen and cause the brightness controls to either not work or go crazy. Especially double check that you solder to the correct pins on L and R and that your select wire isn’t touching any of the vias (tiny holes) around tp2. Hope this helps!

      @@JakeSimmons alright I’ll check those out after work. I’ve noticed if I haven’t played in a bit that everything starts working properly again. Then after about twenty minutes it goes haywire again. Not sure if the heat from the motherboard is causing the solder to expand somewhere and bridge maybe and then when it cools it’s good until it heats up again… I’m clearly just throwing spaghetti at the wall with this theory. Even so, have you seen anything like that anywhere?

    There's so many different names & versions it's a little overwhelming for me lol, also i wanted to ask does the newer V5 screens higher resolution show or is it not worth it?
    I couldn't find a video of anyone going in to detail about the that aspect, everyone usually just shows the screen & talk about the colours & modes etc..
