If I understood it correctly, then the upcharge is simply to make sure that the card is properly insured, because you'd otherwise only get $200 back if your $500 card gets lost (if you declare a $200 estimate)
You have never graded then. PSA charges differently to grade your card BASES ON IT'S VALUE AFTER IT IS GRADED. They are simply upcharging what PSA would upcahrge in the first place. Please do some research before spewing nonsense.

@Kirby_duds he is one of the registers that travels along with an individual piece of mail from origin to destination to make sure that every person who touches it signs off appropriatetly.
When going to get my cards graded at gamestop, i had 3 full art Lacey cards and when i was trying to get the card into the card saver I accidentally bent the edge of one and decided to just keep that one. That's cool that GameStop is offering this kind of service, I have some cards I'd like to get graded, but the risk and price just wasn't worth it to me, this seems like a good way to finally get these cards graded. Great video Leon, and also great job Keith with being so helpful!
YOOOOO! I went to this location a couple of weeks ago! It was crazy to see they had a whole added part to the store made specifically for pokemon cards. Also there's a neat revolving belt sushi restaurant down the street that's really good too.
Basically, Gamestop just plays middle man in the situation and makes the process more linear than trying to do it yourself. I may try this soon. Ive never graded cards before. I like the multiple types and styles of cards that you submitted to test the process. Thank you Leo 🙏🏼

Yeah, I was really surprised at that. I thought generally collectibles you shouldn't expect to get more than 2/3 of the value when selling it to a reseller. GameStop won't even give you anything close to that for an actual game.
It’s smart on them for paying more than card shops , this will get many people to grade with them and sell back to them and many more people will buy the GameStop membership
@@c7a865 Definitely gives them the best shot at being the Go-To place for grading cards/selling them but I doubt they'll be able to uphold this long term.

Ngl. With the way gamestop was going. I'm kind of amazed how consumer friendly they are being about this. They definitely aren't known for it but they are literally doing things better than the grading companies themselves. With proper insurance, reasonable charges, and basically zero hassle. On top of just actually properly working with people which is basically something no local card shops or PSA themselves do. Always feels like people are trying to screw you over and having this as an option to avoid all that is kind of huge.
I think its cool gamestop is having cards graded. Think I trust that more than sending them in the mail. Also dont forget with the gamestop membership you get a $5 coupon every month which could be used for a "free" pack of cards or whatever else. I think that's worth the $25 membership alone. And the free shipping for grading cards is cool too
You don't feel comfortable having your cards in the mail, yet you're enthusiastic about free shipping? They still mail your cards out. Game Stop does nothing except aid in the process of mailing, and receiving the mail that goes to who they use to actually grade the cards. You dropped your consistency somewhere.
@@Unpopular_0pinion the shipping is only free because GameStop covers the cost of it, and it's more comforting having packages shipped by official retailers and mailing accounts than a personal drop off

@@otaris Yea I thought he got a good deal overall still. Nice to know there is a store limit on what they can pay out as well. Imagine someone dropping off 100s of cards worth $1k or more xD

8:42 I'm not sure if they take centering into account but the back of this Moltres seems off to me. The space between the red line and and edge seems a little thinner on the left than it does on the right side.
For the Raichu card I think its a 6 because of the back top corners. It could be the camera angle but it looked like it had a lot of whiting. The front looked solid so idk.
Yeah, I asked my LGS if they did this, and they said no... they don't even have any local tournaments or anything... seems like huge wasted opportunity.
@@IautocorrectIt's not worth the hassle I'd assume for LGSs. Another thing to consider here is that the vast majority of lgs are privately owned and don't have the capital to be shipping tons of cards off. I can't really see PSA partnering with any lgs honestly.
That upcharge is utter bs because once its graded and comes back, they essentially will keep your card until you pay the extra fee. and how much is the upcharge? Is it a percentage based on the value? because in that sense a $10k card would be outragious!
@@foxrumor that's assuming you have the money to recover the card in the first place, or want to sell it. If I was paying 16 dollars to get a card looked at and they said "sorry, you have to pay another 200 to get it back" I'd be pissed.

Come on, you already know he is getting paid near minimum
He’s getting paid $15 an hour max
What American corporation pays their employees well?
GAMESTOP ... Give Keith a raise. He definitely deserves it!!

I hope he sees all these comments complimenting his work. We all need to be more like Keith. More Keiths in the world, yes please!

boring video
Absolutely LOVE how well you treated Keith. Employees, especially in retail, often get treated like shit. He has no control over policy or anything, and I like how this acts as an actual review of the service rather than some kind of "gotchya"
Holy shit a fellow ingress player
Isn’t when I worked retail people were generally nice. The people who were were just either having a bad day or just overall buttholes and you could tell a clear difference. And attitude affects the level of service you get people should remember that.

Keith was awesome. I hope all GameStop employees are as knowledgable as he is with this process.
Considering that I myself found out and was trained on how this is supposed to work less than 3 days ago, Keith is miles ahead of the curve

85% of market value is very good considering eBay takes 15% off the top. Plus you don’t have to worry about shipping.

GameStop is doing this right. Don't need extensive training if you're letting PSA decided what to grade or not.
This is genius. I've been thinking for a while there are just a couple of cards I want to get graded, but don't trust the process of the mail.
Having a place you can go to that that has some insurance of if things do go wrong your not out of luck if someone damages it in transit kind of deal. At least in theory
@joshuamahon260 youre insured if you pay the $20 psa offers for shipping.
Honestly Keith is such an amazing guy, so helpful, kind and so much patience, that guy needs a raise!
I think we all wish we had a Keith at our local GameStop
I do. I just wrote a comment saying as much.
I could try to go to my local card shops and teach a crew to grade and because I am not capable of lying I know who is honest and who isn't so I could share my kindness with everyone and hope that I could be a positive impact for local stores and hopefully spread the kindness everywhere else! I know the real world sucks but if I could help share who I am, maybe I can help others share that same joy!! Especially when I know what suffering, loneliness, abuse, neglect, etc. Is. I grew up without what my generation grew up with but I never quit trying to love anyone. That's who I wanna be but smart enough to know when someone is trying to hurt me or anyone else... ❤
Keith was a very knowledgeable employee and extremely willing to be a part of this video. I give Keith major props. 👏 👏 👏
CA seems to be the best grading from a friend. Also, if you cards are THAT high value, send them "Registered" for grading with USPS. EVERYONE that touches that package has to sign for it. Ask me how I know
how do you know

I can confirm. I touched @OverworkedPostalEmployee 's package and had to sign off on it.
@Kirby_duds he is one of the registers that travels along with an individual piece of mail from origin to destination to make sure that every person who touches it signs off appropriatetly.
I like how he called you a guest and not a customer. That is exactly how he treated you, as a guest.
When going to get my cards graded at gamestop, i had 3 full art Lacey cards and when i was trying to get the card into the card saver I accidentally bent the edge of one and decided to just keep that one. If anything, getting them into a card saver is the hardest challenge you face when getting cards graded.
Keith better get employee of the year. He was very friendly and represented the company very well!
This made GameStop look very good, and the $15.99 per card is a deal compared to the $25 that PSA charges directly (without CC membership).
And shipping only 5.99. Psa said they wanted to charge me like 75 for shipping
Why does that scare me though, is this profitable enough for GameStop?
@@NoahJVic "enough", I mean define enough? They probably have some percentage deal with PSA. Plus, I'm sure their hope is that you get your cards graded(as a pro member) and then sell them the card.
Is this sole decision enough to make sure GS is around in 100 years? Probably not. Is it a step in the right decision? Yes.

Keith was an absolute unit! Loved this video!
The worker there was really helpful with my questions and a good employee too. Was weird that I found a card that just wasn't on their online store at all, and tells me that they're still in early stages of this new process, but was still cool to see. Also there's a neat revolving belt sushi restaurant down the street that's really good too.
Willing to say where this Gamestop is? Ive never seen one so decked out with Pokemon product. It looked awesome.

Holy Moly he's here
Basically, Gamestop just plays middle man in the situation and makes the process more linear than trying to do it yourself. I may try this soon. Ive never graded cards before. I like the multiple types and styles of cards that you submitted to test the process. Thank you Leo 🙏🏼
Cheaper to do it yourself

Thanks for sharing! Also, let's get Keith a raise from GameStop! I've been wanting to get some cards graded and now have a much easier and understandable process for doing so.
The employee seemed like a super nice and helpful person.

I pay $100+ a year for a PSA subscription and you’re telling me I have to sub 20 cards at once to pay $15 a card? PSA needs to get their shit together
Yeah tbh I may just cancel my PSA subscription and go through GS for my card submissions
@@roylacroixmusic yeah for basically $1 more, 45 day turn around and no min sub, doesn’t really make sense to be a collectors club member any more
It also didn't seem like there is the $500 price cap either, and the free shipping. Seems like a no brained if this works.
You read my mind. Why would I keep paying a premium for collectors club when it actually ends up being cheaper through GS.
That's a guaranteed $400 out of you each year if you utilize the service. If not, it's a free $100 for nothing. PSA is just abusing their power. "You want to make more money on your cards, you have to pay us more money"
MVP to the gamestop employee. I hope he was notified of this interview before the video started, and he was compensated by his company or this channel. He had a lot of patience and this video (being 1.5 mil views+) will do wonders for the company.
that gamestop employee is GOATED.
Super impressed with Keith, really knew his stuff considering submitting to PSA is a new service. Answered every question so well!

I wish him nothing but good luck and good fortune in his adventure in life!
I'm thinking about getting into cards, seems fun and lots of pretty cards out there
Damn with pro membership they were buying your card around 85%. Getting even 70% at your local shop or convention is hard enough. That's pretty cool
@@c7a865Yep this right here. They’ll make more money from the actual middle man business than the cards themselves so it’s a good business decision. Whoever thought of this is very smart.
This video was great and this world needs more Keiths! Thanks Leon
i cant lie Gamestop is moving in a much better direction than it was for the last couple years pokemon cards are more important than funko pops
@@Unpopular_0pinion "liability"
@@Unpopular_0pinion the shipping is only free because GameStop covers the cost of it, and it's more comforting having packages shipped by official retailers and mailing accounts than a personal drop off
Your paying for them to send it in the nail
@Home-x1i but they'll accept some responsibility if it is lost. The mail won't do that

I think it's live in everystore effective today.
It starts today in all stores I believe. I work at one and we're just as good and knowledgeable as Keith here. They've been drilling this into us like military training. 😁😁
If your GameStop has a 20ft or larger trading card section, it's live today. If they don't have that big of a card section, it'll probably roll out next year if this phase goes well.

Their cash offer on the Entei was almost exactly 86% of the $218 value you projected. Ive seen worse offers. Trade in value a little less than 96%.
the price they offered for the cards is shockingly good, as someone who does a lot of guitar center trades they are giving way, way higher margins

The front looked solid so idk.
kinda shocked at the amount you got for those cards, LGS might have something to worry about
Yeah, I asked my LGS if they did this, and they said no... they don't even have any local tournaments or anything... seems like huge wasted opportunity.
@@IautocorrectIt's not worth the hassle I'd assume for LGSs. Another thing to consider here is that the vast majority of lgs are privately owned and don't have the capital to be shipping tons of cards off. I can't really see PSA partnering with any lgs honestly.
Props to Keith! He is very helpful and open.
That upcharge is utter bs because once its graded and comes back, they essentially will keep your card until you pay the extra fee. and how much is the upcharge? Is it a percentage based on the value? because in that sense a $10k card would be outragious!
It's not outrageous. If it's a percentage of the value, you can get that money back by selling the card. You profit in the end either way.
@@foxrumor that's assuming you have the money to recover the card in the first place, or want to sell it.

Man, this is going to be huge for Gamestop! They are really getting to be a handy company for card folks! You get better benefits than having the $150/year plaginum membership with PSA!
