My only comment is please do infinitely more of these videos. So good. The most informative part is when you go through the list of grape varieties and explain why you're ruling a certain variety out.
07:31 “Some of you at home are screaming at the camera right now…” 😄 I starting yelling YES NO MAYBE, when all the varieties were up on the screen. 😄 This is a great format. 👍
I love a Gewurz from Alsace and yes - if it’s dry, alcohol would be higher and acid might be lower, but a big thing I get from Alsatian Gewurz is spiciness! The only reason I didn’t think it was your guess was because you didn’t say anything about a spicy note. Great video Vince! Love this practice
LOVE the new show! I just watched the first 3 episodes and I'm totally hooked. Your process and explanations are perfect, because it makes it fun to play along. Thanks!
This was so fun to watch!! And educational too!! I loved how you went down the list of possibilities and explained why you chose or didn’t choose each one. Great video!!
Gewürztraminer for me is more aromatic with a floral characteristics. But also I try only from Germany and Austria so I don’t know the French style. Great video! Thanks for doing it!
I will tell you all how to never miss Torrontés…. 1. It will always have a terpine high-Intensity floral nose that is sweet and tropical such as whites peaches and lemons. 2. The palate will never match the nose haha it will be very high-acid (sometimes electric) and the palate is sour and pure yellow fruit /lemon and not sweet like the nose. Conclusion: Every Torrontés I have tasted has had this glaring juxtaposition and now that you know it promise all of you will never miss this wine again ! ** I’m a certified Somm and level 3 WESET **
Great video! Given your descriptioms I was expecting you to reveal Condrieu. As for the varieties: there´s something about Alsatian Gewürztraminer in the way the flavours are deep and layered with earthiness and structure that I really don´t often find in Torrontes. That said these videos really show just how tough blind tasting is.
Not familiar with Torrontes wine but will search.out a bottle soon! Loving your new additions to the show and anxiously waiting to view your Chile adventure!
I had never tried Torrontes before seeing this video, but I think that a big difference between Gewürztraminer and this wine is the color: wines from Gewürztraminer are usually more golden, since the grape skin is pink. Anyways, very interesting video and thanks for making me discover this grape, I bought a bottle a few days after and it was super nice😊
What an amazing format for this kind of videos! Please make many more og these. Highly entertaining. Very educational and a Nice way to learn the deducting skills, even if I dont have the glas in front of me! Is it possible to support the show to make sure there Will be more og this?
You also didn't bring up sweetness. For gewurtz I usually get dry but verging on off dry (same with viognier). Torrontes is more definitively dry for me.
Don't know if you got this wine tell but many of my fellow tasters get a soapy quality with torrontes. I've gotten it quite a few times. Great show... and hopefully series!
If you enjoyed this Torrontes i really recommend you the Colomé Estate Torrontes, from Calchaquí Valley , Salta by Colomé[Hess Family]. This vineyard is in 1700 above sea level.
Damn it I was patting on my back for guessing Gewurtz too then the "Baaaaap!!" sound shattered my confidence lol. I will try Torrontes next chance I get!
Torrontes is called in Argentina as the "Lying grape" because it's very aromatic (floral) on the nose but bone dry on the palate. Completely mislead the drinker. Therefore I would also have discarded the wine as Torrontes because Vince described that most of the notes found on the nose were present on the palate.
Exactly! It tricked me because it was actually fairly dynamic on the palate. But the bitter and lower alcohol should have gave it away for me. Won't miss it again!
Blind tasting is hard. I probably would've guessed chenin now that climate change has made some vouvrays a bit more tropical tasting. The thing with gewurtzraminer for me personally is it has a much "grapier" flavor all the way around. It leans more on that lychee ginger spectrum which helps it pair with Asian food.
To me the colour would have been revealing, with Traminer being darker on the skin I'd normally expect a tendency to golden. But then again maybe I would have failed somewhere else 😅
This is a wild guess...once you mentioned lychee...does China & Argentina share some latitudes?🤔🍾🥂💃🏻...that was my clue to guess it was a Torrentes...🫣😜🤣
I know it's so difficult to deduce all those impressions, but you were darn close. I think the colour was a tad light for Gewürztraminer. Also this grape usually provides spicy/herbal and imho less floral notes. And a lot have more alcohol than 12 percent. I tried some Torrentés wines and agree with your analysis: in general they have a promising expressive nose, but are not that aromatic on the palate. Not my favourite grape.
Crosses off Chenin because no waxiness.. considers pinot gris because "I did mention the waxiness" ... ???? I was thinking chenin initially, but the comment of oiliness locked in torrontes for me. I'm writing this comment before finishing the video, so I don't know what the reveal is yet.
My only comment is please do infinitely more of these videos. So good.

Haha thanks Michael! And yes, more coming for sure!!
Yeeesss I second this!! Blind tasting all the way!
One of my blind tasting mentors told me "if it looks like nothing and smells like everything, it's Torrontes."
haha exactly
Being a Gewurztraminer lover who has never had a Torrontes before I now have a new wine to try! Thanks!
Same!
Absolutely doing the same.
07:31 “Some of you at home are screaming at the camera right now…” 😄 I starting yelling YES NO MAYBE, when all the varieties were up on the screen. 😄 This is a great format. 👍
Hahaha your kind plays tricks on you!

Great video Vince! Love this practice
Thanks! More of these coming!
I love the tension in these videos, so good, plus I learn a lot! Keep at it.
The pressure!! Haha
These are too good, I feel like I need popcorn sometimes, or a buttery chard! Keep it up, Vince!
😂😂
LOVE the new show! I just watched the first 3 episodes and I'm totally hooked. Your process and explanations are perfect, because it makes it fun to play along. Thanks!
Thank you, it's fun, if not a bit nerve wracking!
Very helpful analysis on our wine journey! Very enjoyable to watch, too.
Thanks, glad it helped!
I seldom find Gewürztraminer (pink grape) to be that colourless. Well done though!
Ah, good tip!
Gewürztraminer has more spice character on the nose and palate
Brave to put yourself out there and impressed with your deduction skills. 🥂
Thanks! I don’t mind missing if I can learn from my mistakes!
Yeah the phenolics and the lack of rosewater/turkish delight perhaps would have led to me to the new world. Nice one Vince!
Yes, exactly! I needed to remember that earlier lol
This was so fun to watch!! And educational too!! I loved how you went down the list of possibilities and explained why you chose or didn’t choose each one. Great video!!
Thanks Anne! I’m so glad it’s helpful!
Wow, this videos are the best blind tasting i've seen in a long time. Please keep it up!!
Thank you so much!!
Great video! Both educational and entertaining!
Love the new show! You can’t hide how happy you are in the new place. All the best.
Thank you, we love it!

Great video! Thanks for doing it!
Yes, that “Turkish delight” and roses as they say!
I really enjoyed this format and learned a lot. Looking forward to seeing more of this.
All 9 episodes are filmed already, so more to come!

Love comes from Vietnam, I wish I would become a Sommelier in the future and I watch a lot of your videos, your knowledge is great.❤❤❤
Thank you so much! Would love to visit Vietnam one day!
Very educational and fun blind tasting! Great work!
Thanks, more to come!

For sure!! But practice makes perfect. We have 8 more this year coming out, we’ll see how I do!
Not familiar with Torrontes wine but will search.out a bottle soon! Loving your new additions to the show and anxiously waiting to view your Chile adventure!
It's a fun wine! And affordable!
The suspense! Awesome vid
😂😂
Nice new feature! Thanks Vince
Thanks!

Yes, honestly, I should have got this one!
Love this series! 🔥🔥 we should do one online version of this for vino vip!
Oh, a live blind! Maybe everyone can have their spouse or friend go buy the wine!
Wow! This was fun to watch. I have way less knowledge of wines and I work at trying to identify wines anyway🙂
It’s good practice at any skill level for sure!

Very good! Congrats 🍷
I loved this new series! 🍷

Keep it up Vince! . . .Love this!
Thanks Steve!

Nice, I’ll try and find it for sure!
Vince is a wine whisperer.
😂😂
Damn it I was patting on my back for guessing Gewurtz too then the "Baaaaap!!" sound shattered my confidence lol. I will try Torrontes next chance I get!
That was probably my fault in the way I described! I think I missed some clues!
Good job
Great video. You didn’t list Semillion in the list of white wines?
Thanks! So we’re going off the options of the advanced court of masters list, and I don’t think they include semillon as an option.
good show. thank you.
Thank you!

Yeah, I would agree. More of than “Turkish delight” kind of vibe too!
I love this job
🙌🙌🙌

I was Alsatian gewurz from the start with the lychee and medium everything.
We need more videos)))
More coming, I promise!
This is a wild guess...once you mentioned lychee...does China & Argentina share some latitudes?🤔🍾🥂💃🏻...that was my clue to guess it was a Torrentes...🫣😜🤣
Haha if it works it works!

Yes, it can be sometimes "dead' on the palate. Which is why this one threw me for a loop.
@@visforvino Still amazing you got it nearly. I couldn't copy that. )
would gewurztraminer be a little darker?
good call!
fruity/floral= New World. French wine is always described as lots of minerality. ..according to your lessons!!
Is Gewurz normally more golden?
Good call, I think so!
Can you share the checklist you’re using?
Absolutely! Just updated the links in the video description!
Thanks
Wow, thanks so much!
The colour of the wine too "pale straw" so it's definitely looks like Torrontes.
Yeah, gewurtz may have had a deeper hue for sure
Sugar and bitterness level Should have given it away
I'd agree with you on the bitterness level; the phenolic bitterness should have been a giveaway. But Gewurtz can be made bone dry.

Hey you look so cute, vinophile from Thailand 😜
Anyone else notice how handsome the host is? Hubba-hubba
Haha thanks GL!
