We recently bought a two-year old La Prima (top spec) model in the UK. Around about half the original price, so quite a lot of depreciation - but I think that is just the market right now. And we absolutely love, love, love it. We also have a Hyundai Ioniq 6 as our primary car, so the Fiat fits beautifully into the family. It’s been on some long day trips recently (as the I6 was out of action), do close to 400 miles in a day, and aside from more charge stops (compare to the I6), it has handled the wonderfully. Lots of personality, easy and fun to drive, still “perky” despite the low-ish power, and so damn cute to look at. No regrets.

Love my 2018 Fiat and would absolutely buy this... Used. The styling is on point. The problem is that the small car gets great gas mileage, but sort of the opposite effect when it's electric and loses battery space. I've never once used the back seat, it would be nice to have an option for battery expansion or something to replace that space. Very happy to see a review from a fan and not somebody who doesn't get it. We'd all be safer if we drove small cars.

@@JakeRichardsong not about efficiency, but thanks for trying to evangelize. The gas 500 can go 300+ miles on a tank, while the electric is below half that on a charge.

I'm living about a mile from the center in a town in Germany of some 600.000. I do have a garage with a door some 15" wider and 5" higher than the 500e Cabrio I have. This little car is so much fun especially with the top down.
I use it for somewhat longer trips of some 250 miles every now and then and need one 30 minute charging stop (conveniently at a Mc Donalds) and another 10 Minutes stop close to home to be on the safe side. Visiting my mother in a village some 50 miles away is easy.
Charging from the 220V 10A power outlet in my garage takes some 30h from 10 to 100% but usually I don't care, charging over night is enough for my daily needs.
In the city it's a fun car for my single household. It's certainly good enough for the suburbs, too.

On the lack of frunk - I at least want a small lockable storage area that isn't visible through the windows to hold the "things every car should have" - the can of fix-a-flat and tire inflator, the mobile charge cord, a first aid kit, and room to store a purse. The microscopic Hyundai/Kia frunks are fine. Just enough space for a hatchback. Less needed on a sedan, but every EV with an "open to the cabin" storage area should have a frunk.

Good review. People spend so much money on accommodations that only apply to 2% of their life. Gotta have a dedicated guest bedroom for the 1-2 times a year someone actually stays at the house. Gotta have a 300 mile range EV for the 1-2 times a year you drive more than 30 miles a day. Gotta have a pickup truck for the 1-2 times a year you actually need to haul something that won't fit in a car. That's what rentals are for.

re: charging levels (13m into the video): At my office the 40A breaker gets tripped all the time by cars trying to draw power too fast from our shared and free to use Level 2 chargers. Being able to step-down the draw when using a shared public charger is a GREAT idea . . especially if you're not being charged by the minute and can leave the car plugged in for a few hours. The Tesla vehicles at our office can automatically adjust their power draw downward, consequently they don't trip that breaker. But the rest of us - Ford, Hyundai, BMW etc vehicles we all trip the breaker sometimes.

Interestingly this model has a lot more options for the headlights on the left stalk. In the European models one of the biggest annoyances with this car is that there was no way to turn off the headlights. You only had the options AUTO and headlights ON. So in the US version you can finally turn off the lights. 😂

As for the car everything about it is fine except the price, Fiats were always about value not quality, this doesn't have neither. 4:41 imho, the instant electric torque of EVs makes stickier tires a justifiable investment, regardless of the car's horsepower figure. My V60 Recharge puts out only 140hp to the rear wheels and weighs over 5,000lbs. but with the factory all-seasons, you didn't need to dip far into the throttle to get wheel slip, particularly when accelerating through a turn or just accelerating from a stand-still, and especially in the wet. Switching to UHP all-seasons solved that almost entirely.

38 usable kWh means: at 80% of charge 31% minus low end 5=26 kWh X (guessing) 3.5 miles per about 90- 100 miles BUT variable 75-110 mph (terrain, aggressive driving, AC/Heat, electric system usage). Potential for success? Unknown where to be available and state EV credit. My observation is based on similar sized, price, availability of Mini Cooper EV sales success.

That's bizarre. My 2013 500E has an adjustable driver's seat and I can fit in it at 6 ft tall (although the windshield ends a bit low). The passenger seat has a fixed height and also fits me, although I can't see very far upward.

We need an abarth with a structural rigidity augmenting extended battery pack instead of a back seat.

On one hand, I like the way it looks and I think it's cool (I also liked the old 500e). On the other hand, this has to be one of the worst value, least competitive EVs you can buy today.

The price is a bit rough. I am considering a small car but the Model 3 is almost the same price, and used Model 3 make it really hard to justify this.

I think the 500e makes sense for people who want a cute and fashionable car. It's not as charming as the previous generation, but it still has a lot more personality than other EVs.

Serious question. Who are the design people talking to that they are getting the impression that consumers want the piano black plastic? Still, car seems fine for its use case. I'd have to wait a couple years to see about reliability since it's Fiat, but other than that I'd put it on my shopping list. Not sure the price value will be there at the higher trims though.

      @otm646 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

It still holds true that Mercedes is 10 years in front of the curve. Mercedes came out with this piano black about a decade ago, maybe even more than that. Now it is trickled down into the more economy cars. Toyota among others does this too. It's not great

    • @faeinthebay

I think it impresses buyers in the showroom, and that's all car companies care about. Some brands like Honda are backing off.

Surprisingly, the previous generation doesn't have mechanical issues. The only iffy parts are the plastics and the window regulators. I guess once you remove the ICE powertrain + electronics, there's nothing left to screw up.
