I have been frying a turkey every year for at least 20 years and this is the absolute best video I have ever seen. This is the best video for a first timer and veteran to go by. I saw this last year and went from my normal routine to this. It just made since! I am very impressed! This guy is spot on how to do it. if you follow his instruction to a tee you will be the love of your Thanksgiving dinner. From the way he starts the burner to the temp, to how you put it in. Great job brother.
Oh and no I do not know Jeven nor ever met him. I live in Arkansas and I BBQ/cook all the time.
Pay attention to the oil temp and the temp of the turkey. although I pull the turkey out at 165 to 170 deg. (must be the difference in climate) and let it rest for at least 20 to 30 minutes. Dang good turkey. if you slice the turkey before you let it rest (covered with foil) it will be dry within 5 or 10 minutes. so yes let it rest (set).
Thank you brother... Mike Gindlesberger, Greenwood Arkansas. God Bless us all in our great USA!!!

Get a 1 gallon milk jug of water and simulate the amount of oil you'll need with water... see how many gallons of water it takes to get a submerged turkey. Take the turkey back out and thoroughly dry the turkey and the pot... then use the same amount of oil to cook the turkey. He said he doesn't do this because he's been doing it so long, but I think its useful for someone who doesn't do it very often. His frying pot might be a different brand or size than yours and you might need a different amount than what he used here. Better safe than sorry.

I always turn flame off until the bird is totally covered so in case the oil spits up over the pot it doesn't hit the flame and start a fire.

Great video. I recommend to anyone that wants to fry a turkey harbor freight welding gloves are cheap $6.99pr and work great. Also pickup a Large one gallon funnel $2.99 to transfer your oil back into the container once it cools!
**Also if you want to prolong your peanut oil fry up some fresh cut fries . The potatoes clean the oil very well. I’ve gotten up to 6 birds with fresh cut fries following in the oil!

I've been frying birds ever since a Navy co-worker did it for a holiday party at work in Florida. One thing I would recommend is having a fire extinguisher nearby. The other is to never leave it alone. Heard way too many stories of burned down garages (yes, I've done it in a garage a few times) and yards.
The water measurement method for how much oil works great, but like you said early in the video, make sure the pot is dry as a bone before the oil goes in. I usually do the water thing the day before. Then I season/brine the bird overnight.

Yeah that was my only gripe about the video pulling at 180 it would continue to cook well past 190. I fried my second turkey last night and pulled it at 155, it continued to cook to 165. It turned out juicy and delicious. Beside that this is a great instructional video. I suggest using the water method to determine oil everytime. If you keep the turkey wrapped while doing this it won’t take on anymore water before frying.

  • @jackhaugh
    @jackhaugh 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

I’m going to start by saying that I’ve been deep frying turkey for well over 20 years, and you; sir, are a complete maniac.
You’re way closer to those petroleum based tabes and wood fence than I would ever be, and I don’t see a fire extinguisher anywhere in your setup.
If you were to use the water submerged method to measure the amount of oil you need, I think you’d find that you only need one container of peanut oil. I personally have a 13 pound cutoff for the size of the turkey I’m going to deep fry. Uses less oil. Easier to manage.
I also have always used the Butterball prescribed method for deep frying a turkey and heat the oil to 375 degrees F.
Yours look good, and as long as you get a good core temperature, good on you.

dude knows what he's doing. Fried my first last week (test run for Thanksgiving). And i basically just did what was done in this video. Cash money! Make sure it is dry and thawed. Inject it the night before. I didn't bother measuring either. The frier can handle an 18 pounder, so i just went to the fill line with my 15 pound bird. Had to add a little oil TBH. I fried one and someone else baked one the traditional way. I actually ended up slightly over cooking the thing. It was still amazing. There was nothing left of it. The second bird which was roasted the traditional way had plenty left over.

  • @jaredjames7046

Heat the oil guys to 375, turn it off completely, lower the turkey in slowly, the temp will go down closer to 300 - 325, then turn it on it's pretty safe then.
A good way to measure it since you'll wash your pot beforehand anyway is to put the turkey left in its plastic wrapper and fill the pot with cold water till it's just about covered, pull the turkey out and use your thermometer to mark the height of the water then you can clean and dry the pot and you didnt add any extra water to the Turkey.

I deep fry every thankfornuthing and Christmas in the northeast. Today [Thanksgiving] it's cold rainy and windy . Its going to be a challenge but I have done it before in a blizzard. With wind driven snow. Deep frying is for real men only .

I like to dry my turkey out in the fridge a few days on a rack to get some of the excess water out . For a crisper skin and less over flow.

Fryer oil expands when heated and level raises from that and cook off grease from the bird.

Dude! I love your video but you HAVE to turn the burner off when you are putting the bird in - once the bird is in re-light the burner. Just on the off chance that you get an oil splash outside of the pot.....if there is no flame, there is no fire

Normally I turn the gas off while putting the turkey in, after it calms down a bit then I tirar the gas back on.
Also to cook at 350 it is a good idea to heat the oils to 375 before put the turkey in since it will cool the oil down a bit.
