Growing Up with a SINGLE PARENT | Reb Naftoli MIller

  • My journey started watching my mother - a single mom - visiting factories in our neighborhood asking them for their items that were imperfect and unsellable. My mother would collect them and then set up shop at the local flea market selling them. She took the money and walked into my school’s tuition office with a big smile on her face to give them a check. I learned that “not having the money for it” was never an answer to why we couldn’t do something.
The other thing I learned from mother - to always care for and be concerned for other people’s needs - has also deeply affected my views. My focus is on bringing good people together to solve problems for Klal Yisroel. If you are passionate and have identified a need for the klal, please reach out to me. I would love to work together for the greater good.
Practically speaking, I devote my energies to both Agudas Yisroel and Chasdei Lev.
It is only after the last few years of working at the Agudah, that I have come to fully understand the incredible scope of the work that Agudah does for the klal. My colleagues - an incredibly dedicated and talented team - are busy each and every day taking care of our needs, focusing on things that sometimes take years to accomplish, at the same time as they respond to the needs of the day.
At Chasdei Lev, we bridge the gap between vendors and 279 Yeshivas to ensure that each Rebbe has a beautiful Yom Tov. We coordinate the distribution of over $10,000,000 worth of product to over 4,800 rebbeim during every season. Our success and growth is based not on our ability, but rather the siyata dishmaya from above.
Rabbi Naftali Miller is the director of development for Agudas Yisroel of America, catering to the evolving needs of the Jewish community from coast to coast. He previously served as director of development at Yeshiva Derech Chaim and Artscroll. He is the co-founder of Chasdei Lev, an organization that helps teachers nationwide alleviate the financial strain of the yomim tovim.

The world is upside down!! So many people view individuals who grow up with tough challenges as 'damaged goods'-they have it So wrong. As R' Miller said, those who can go through difficulty and still dig deep to eke out the strength to keep their chin up and smile, are the real heroes! My kids go to shul all alone,it appears my community is afflicted with blindness but I hope my kids will merit 20/20 eyesight & be'h eventually use all they have experienced to make the world a better place for the next generation.

If this is the way someone from a divorced home emerges, everyone should marry someone from a divorced home. What a mentsch. What a smart person.

Great episodes. I wish you could have asked him why only Rebbi receive Chasdei Lev and not Morahs. We all know they are paid significantly less than the Rabbiem and if it wasn’t for Morah there would be no skills for anyone to have jobs. Any thoughts? Also next time in private ask Agudah workers if NY refuses vouchers why do they keep voting Democrat especially now NY is a terrible place to live.

@@yohuda Hi thank you but unfortunately I know first hand they didn’t. I am assuming then its region based on the schools and the represntative but its a big problem that Morahs are underrepresented in our society
