    I founded a edged weapon system called FireStorm we use box cutters and straight razors you absolutly can disable an attacker with one without breaking it or losing a finger you couod even terminate them if you needed

    Well About the capoiristas. I'm brazilian. The meaning behind straigh razor usage is to avoid criminal laws. It was forbidden to bohemian cariocas to port weapons in old republic years. The capoeira was forbidden by law. So they usually used razors in order to argue they are porting a working tool, not a weapon. It was very common in Bahia state, the capoeira's birthplace. Life and death challenges. Once challenged, both capoeiristas went to berimbau's base in order to figh. In that moment, a mean capoeirista can take a inner razor from is pocket for example to cut his unarmed challenger. Some Harlots used it to. When theyr clients are off guarded. By the way, sorry by the text errors. I don't know very much about english. Awsome video man..

    I knew a Cuban guy in the 80s who carried a straight razor. One night he was outside my friends bar and he got into a fight with some other cuban man. He knocked the guy out and pulled down his pants and sliced the poor guy on the ass, it was supposed to be a sign of disrespect used by some cuban religion. Good times!

    The main reason you would use it over a traditional knife or dagger is that in some countries there are very restrictive laws on what one can carry. Its also less suspicious if stopped and searched, relatively common in Europe.

      Really? It’s not suspicious to be found with a razor in your pocket? What’s the excuse? “ Well, actually officer you see I get a heavy 5 o clock shadow and I like to duck into a public restroom and lather up a shave”. I’m not sure what country that would work in, but not mine.

    • @pegoossens
      @pegoossens  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      a lot depends on conditions and circumstance. you as a person cutting yourself is usually a static non moving object. an opponent in a fight usually won't stand still and wil usually do his utmost to avoid getting cut. chances of getting a real deep laceration are much smaller in that case. specially if the opponent has clothing on.

    • @geromeegans

      No this was in a fight The difference I was in a fight if I could show you the pictures you will think differently you don't feel it until it starts to sting then all of a sudden I passed out and he was a deep cut

    I would think using a straight razor as a weapon would be to cut and run or to target the foes throat and wrists where the veins are just beneath the skin and easy to cut? Not for battle?

    • @pegoossens

      let's say that it's a nice theory. practice is something else. first of all a layer of clothes can be quite effective against a blade. specially a fine blade like that. second of all your opponent is most likely not going to just let you go to town on him, unless you catch him completely unaware

    not a choice tactical weapon for one on one combat, but gruesome compared to bare hands! and certainly deserving it it's sinister reputation as markabe tool of the lawless gentleman. it's an elegant and underhanded weapon of fear, not ostentacious force. (also note how it's mostly a thing in hot regions, where thick clothing isnt common)
    forget about using it like a normal knife. realistically one wouldnt slash straight and hard, like normal, trying to cut deep to inflict maximum damage. but rather just push through the target at a shallow angle, letting the supported blade to the work to sewer as much tissue and blood vessels as possible. ...or just let an enemy reach richt into the blade.
    just one practical example: with a hammer grip, and the back of the blade resting underneath the wrist (like a tonfa), the defender deflects a punch or attempt to grab, and uses the blade like a potato peeler to take off a thick slice of forearm.
    PS: go figure, i've dome some reading and pondering, just out of morbid fascination.

    Straight razor is a bad weapon. No blade locking and no point. Useless you are and 6 foot 2 albino with dreadlocks who happens to have the ability to turn into a ghost never use it as a self defense tool.

      For self defense idk, but for attacking someone it's a different story.
