@@jareds869 I was in the Army. I didn't have a "knife instructor". As far as hand to hand and shit, in basic training they basically said don't expect to come out of here being able to kick peoples asses. All thats going to happen is someone who would have kicked your ass before will still kick your ass now, he may just have to kick your ass a little longer before you go down.
@@tsdobbi Yeah, that is the same experience I had in basic as well. I wish they would have done an introduction to a little BJJ or Judo throws. If your rifle goes down, or it gets grabbed when you are turning a corner, you need to have some hand to hand combat experience in order for you to get out of that situation alive.
@@tsdobbi I think this and any kind of martial arts training serves to make you more conscious in a fight when engaging. Instead of aimlessly punching and kicking you more aware and precise of your and the other person's actions... Which helps especially against someone who doesn't have any fighting background... Like boxers, military or martial artists...
in my country it is 'normal' in certain cities to take a knife with you when you walk in the streets, because there are these groups of teens from 12-20+ who are making it dangerous to walk over the streets, they are bringing a knife with them to defend themselves againts other groups or to rob other teens, yesterday a 14 year old got threatened on a soccer field with a knife and got robbed so now i am starting to learn how to defend against a knife attack, i can defend against someone without a knife like 1v1 but i don't know how to do it against a knife, i watched multiple videos ane visisted websites for help and am practising at home
thank you, absolute truth, ive been faced with a knife a few times and it really hits you hard, your senses go through the roof you hormones and adrenaline starts pumping, and this was by far the most realstic approach iv seen. you're saving lives

this comment is probably sarcasm but incase someone actually does pull out a gun make sure you get out the way kick them on the leg that will stun them a bit take the gun and aim at the back if they move in there pocket or something shoot them than call 911 and say a guy was attacking me with a gun and i shot him and if your a kid which your probably not have a deep voice so the police dont think your um overprotective i guess or say that your dad shot him
I've already seen this video before and I only remember the part to look at the person's hands.and that saved me from getting stabbed today at the park! He was getting close to me and he was trying to shake my hand.but before I did I saw a pocket knife in his right hand he was hiding it behind his arm and once I saw that I froze for a sec. and I looked at him and he just smiled at me I backed up and started to walk away I started to walk backward so if he tried to attempt to do something ill just run away. I got my stuff and I left the park.lucky he didn't follow me and I left without a scratch.can't believe there are sick people who would do that.and to top it off I'm 16!and he looked like he was in his twenties. Thank God nothing bad happened to me.🙏 and thank you!for this video. gave me a big heads up!
Just stay alert everyone, don't zone out and always watch people's body actions. If you see someone approaching you in an odd fashion might be time to jet. Especially walking around at night just stay on your toes and make sure you are keeping full surveillance of your surroundings not just at night but at anytime.
Totally agree TenderGuitar...The bottom line is to always be aware of your surroundings. Especially when out for a walk with your family or coming out of a movie theater or a shopping center parking lot or in a bar or club. Also, when needed, you need to get into street mode or the "Street Thug" mentality. Holding belts in Aikido, Tang Soo Do, and various forms of street defense arts ie, Krav Maga, Mauy Thai, Kali (hand, stick and knife), for over 30 years, I learned one thing. Some of them work, and most do not in a street situation. The most important thing I learned aside from always being ready, even in the least concerning situations, your mental state is what will help you survive. Remember...A thug approaching you is out to humiliate, seriously injure or kill you. There will be no negotiating, and there will be no time for the fancy spinning back kicks, roundhouses, or flying helicopter kicks we all spent years learning in the dojos. Know and look for an opening of the 6 basic vital spots of the body, (eyes, nose, throat, soloplex, knees, and groin). Watch his hands and NEVER!!! "look eye" (as miuagi says). You already know he's looking at you. Should he invade your space, never hesitate or try to negotiate. There are no cameras or rules on the street, and this is definitely not a movie. This is survival. Strike First... and Strike Hard, then get you and/or your family to safety.
Yes, but this is a bit unreal, don't you think guys? People cannot stay in alert all the time. Also, (I am not an expert on the subject.) what is the possibility to develope a paranoia from this?
I never knew I needed this until it finally happened.. I can't express how much I'm grateful, words can't express how much you helped me in this situation!!
Train running. And avoiding danger. 20 years I live in city where few guys were killed by knife, few kidnapped, few beaten to unconsciousness. And I'm untouched.
I'm watching because I bought a pocket knife and felt safer because of it. Last night I had a dream that someone with a knife came at me and when I woke up I realized I wouldn't know what to do in a real knife fight. So i'm browsing through TH-cam for knife safety videos.
Thank You! Finally someone acknowledged the fact that 1-2-3 looks fancy during drill but it wont work in a real life situation!! And your opponent is not going to flash his knife before attacking, hell, he wont even going to let you know that he has a knife, let alone where! Great video :)
Made tons of videos about this, scary thing is it gives people a fake sense of security or that it will be easy and that can get you killed. Thanks for watching.
The 1-2-3 shouldn't be how you train all the time. In fact, it shouldn't be what you do when you're learning the basics - the basics should be blocking and evasion drills. Wrestlers and judoka use the 1-2-3 method! You can't question that it works! The reason though that they are able to spar the way they train is because they don't train exclusively with the 1-2-3 method. Let me explain. The 1-2-3 has its usefulness because it teaches you what to do if you are able to achieve a certain condition. For example, in wrestling, if you are able to successfully arm drag your opponent, you can use that to funnel to a get-behind, life your opponent, take him down to the mat, then pin him. That's a 1-2-3 method. That's excluding the possibility that your opponent can actively counter, but it includes the possibility that he WON'T counter - because let's face it, they don't always know how to counter. Wrestlers train in all sorts of different ways but they use it too, having wrestled in college, I can't deny that it does help build muscle memory. The same goes for knife defense. IF you are able to parry a knife stab, you can simultaneously strike him in the jaw with your other hand, then use that to funnel to a wrist control followed by a wrist lock. That is when we get to the most important part: the "IF". Obviously you can't count to 2 or 3 if you can't count to one first. Thus it is paramount in knife defense that you first focus on the 1. If you can't even consistently parry a stab, if you can't even consistently block a slash, then don't even think about fancy locks and disarms. It's just like in wrestling. You first learn how to sprawl. You first learn how to lower your center. You first learn how tie-up. You're not going to be taught any takedowns or throws until you master the basics. Can't run if you can't walk. Can't walk if you can't even stand. Start with the proper basics - first master blocking and parrying, then add in striking, then add in footwork, and only then think about doing 1-2-3s. This is the way we do it in the Filipino martial arts, and we know it works because our masters actually did fight with knives. (Knife dueling and carrying knives was completely legal here in the Philippines up until the late 80s.) I'd make a video, but my camera's not really working right, but I'm sure just by reading this, any martial artist can figure out what I'm suggesting. :)
I think 1-2-3 drills are good maybe for developing reflexes and eye-hand coordination, but I definitely think Nick's approach to knife defense should be at the heart of your training.
Yes, you must get control of the knife hand and then strike while maintaining control of that hand...but it's important to know what type of strikes to use in this situation. Due to the risk of losing my channel in our politically correct environment, I won't elaborate on what kind of strikes are necessary, but perhaps someone else will. Just remember...it's not a fistfight that's being discussed here...you're fighting for your life. God bless.
A few years back I found myself in this exact situation, it’s not always possible to run away from an attacker if you’re caught off guard, you may freeze or an escape route may not be accessible without going around the attacker. If that’s the case, do not try fancy moves to disarm as some people say, this guy puts it perfectly you must attempt to control the situation. In doing so you might get slashed in arm or the hand as I did, but that certainly better than body or even neck! Top tip, if someone is mugging you throw your wallet or phone behind them, this will give enough distraction to make a quick escape - it’s not worth risking your life, stay safe.
@@chavale2 How would you have twice the attacks only for having an EMPTY extra wallet? An empty wallet that you could use as a bait, throwing it to the ground for the robber to pick it up, so you'd 'got time to run or something else

I love Nick Drossos. You interviewed all my favorite. The biggest lesson I learned from Nick is what it means to deescalate a situation. As a young martialist i used to get into a lot of fight by saying "I don't want to fight and apologize". Nick thought me how to deescalate tension. And I saw my dad do it in real life. Respect...
@ANM BEATS Hi ☺. That's quite a blanket statement for a highly situational dependent scenario. Are you saying that, if running is in fact a viable option, one should not run but instead always fight? Not challenging you, but seeking clarification. Thank you!🙏
@ANM BEATS Depends where you are. If you're in an open space you bet your ass you should start running if you have the chance. If he already got close try to back away and if he already pulled the knife you focus on his hands
@ANM BEATS Even an expert in knife defense can only improve their survival chance against a truly committed attacker from maybe 5% to 15%. You're going to take those chances over the chance you can outrun your attacker, really?
It's an infectious disease...It has caused me to start from the beginning and watch all his videos in order. I'm now so happy my face feels like the Joker. Beware!
I agree wholeheartedly. Although always not possible, don't allow an attacker into your personal space. Once they're close enough to use a knife, it then becomes more difficult to get to your gun since you're using your hands to defend. In the time it would take to draw your gun you could get stabbed or slashed repeatedly. Keep that distance at all costs which will give you the opportunity to draw your gun. If it gets to a close quarters situation, you need to go hard and fast and unrelenting. Rip their f'ing eyes out of their head. Groin, throat, knees next. But I'd certainly prefer to pepper spray and run as fast as possible.
With all the news of people being stabbed, either my home town or out of town, I feel that it’s important to know how to defend myself. Your video has given me the knowledge and understanding of what to do. Your thorough and realistic lesson have made me confident and well aware of the situation. Thank you for sharing this 🙏🏾
Ando Mierzwa I truly hope so but I want to be ready and prepared for whatever happens. The streets are not safe or nice. Thank you for your comment and take care.

IMO "knife attack defense" is a misconception. A more accurate description would be "knife attack survival". Almost every preemptive strategy for fending off a knife attack doesn't work because practically all of them don't account for how such a scenario starts; the "defense" usually only begins after the attacker has already landed the first slash/stab, maybe even 2 or 3. By that time most people react by curling up into themselves trying to gain a little distance, with striking back or grabbing the attacker completely out of the question. The best defense is prevention through awareness, but one can't live their life in constant preparation for an attack. Better use of one's awareness would be realizing time is best spent on maintenance of one's health and fitness, along with maintaining a good personality. I don't have specific stats to back it up, but I'd still wager jerks get stabbed more often.
Very true Sensei Ando! Being even slightly prepared seems to me much better than not being prepared at all. What 100eyes said touches on a cornerstone of (competent) martial arts training: Be a respectful person, and hopefully you'll never find the need to deploy the rest of what is being trained, except in organised competition/sport of course.
even the biggest morron can stab the greatest fighter on earth. I'm jkd practicionar/boxer and once I had a krav maga teacher telling all kinds of self defences against knives. I stood up and told him that shit aint gonna work, he felt offended because i was insulting his style but i wasnt. This is about life and death. If you teach people something, make sure it is the truth. This video is already way more realistic than 9 out of 10 bullcracp knife self defense videos on the internet. Dont get fooled people, everbody can get stabbed, make sure nobody gets close to you. It can be over withing a split seconde

Aquack Aquak get a flip phone you can take the battery out of. Once the battery removed it can’t be traced. Whenever you get paranoid take out the battery. Job done.
Best knife self defense video ive ever watched lmao, ive never been convinced whenever i see someone teach how to defend against a knife and demonstrate in a "number 1 do this, then number 2 do this, then step 3 do this" manner, now i do believe some of them will work effectively in specific scenarios like if the bad guy points a knife at you with no intent to kill but just to scare you so youd hand over your wallet, but if the bad guy has the intent to kill then this is the best video about knife defense in my opinion
in Scotland knife attacks are pretty common so we learn to headbutt. Its not very elegant but effective . unlike the US we are more used to very close quarter fighting as we have pretty much no guns In the clinch just bat them with your nut and its like a hammer , stun them long enough to take control but usually they are floored with an impressive nose fountain then go and enjoy yer haggis .
"I don't need to be able to outrun a crocodile... I just need to be able to outrun YOU!!" But seriously, this is something the 'run-fu' advocates seem to miss. I remember telling my wife years ago, if we're ever out and faced with a knife-wielding attacker, I want HER to run! 🏃♀️ 👋
Exactly if i im alone im going to haul ass while screaming like a dying sheep, but if friends or family or really anybody vulnerable around me im not gonna run im gonna try to protect them and myself at the same time
Came here after taking a walk with my mom and coming across this man who stood outside a house we were approaching. We knew he didn’t own the house because we’ve seen the owners before, he sort of just stood there. As we got closer he looked at us and put his hand in his pocket as if he was reaching for something, me being paranoid kind of feared for the worst. I sort of stared him down without even realizing and he seemed to look away and walk on. For all I know the guy could have just been reaching for his phone to look at the time or something, but it really helps to be aware that these situations can happen and it’s even more helpful to know what to do in these situations, so thank you for making videos like these but I hope that I’ll never actually be in the scenario where I have to use this.
6:23 "I used to talk to people like this" **demonstrates interview stance** Just so you know; the stance where you have your arms up at chest level in a way that looks nonviolent, non-threatening, and humble is known as the "interview stance." It's a great starting position for punch defense as well, and it's the reason why Police Officers are always seen holding the shoulder straps of their plate carrier vests.
theres a kid at my school whos rly messed up in the head and hates me and im scared he will attack me, he has already groped my friend and i and i am so grateful for this video! thank you so much both of you
Great, great, great video man. Before coming to this video I watched and scoffed through 4 others where they teach you techniques etc but this is really the important and realistic stuff. From paying attention, positioning, concealment of the knife, to running not being the wisest thing to do etc. The only thing not mentioned is that if you're in a fight and someone pulls a knife you WILL get cut or stabbed unless you manage to outrun the fucker. Again, great video. Keep it up.
Great video and you brought up one of the most important points,MAINTAIN A SAFE DISTANCE , a coward will always try to attack you from concealment and reaction is always slower than action, watch those hands it can happen in an instant, also great advice on using environmental weapons a garbage can cover probably saved my life once
This is so real world thinking. I've seen some crazy approaches to knife defence training in my time so it's nice to see some actual realistic attitudes to it
Super T Rev you must have never been stabbed. Not being some where, where you need it? Cause I didn’t need it on the school bus where I shouldn’t have been huh? Fact is if someone is gonna stab you 99% of the time your not gonna see it comin just like I didn’t.
Super T Rev you’re missing my point what I’m saying is you don’t know when or where it’s gonna come. Of course your more likely to get stabbed in a club than on a school bus. But I wasn’t the first person to be stabbed on a school bus in my town either it’s happened more than once. You have to understand that some people have no choice but to grow up in cities/towns like mine you can’t exactly up and leave when your 12. You learn to adapt to your surroundings best you can and hope things stay in your favor.
Super T Rev this adapting means watch where you eat and get gas/diesel in the daytime. These fuckers here killed raped and a hung a 13 year old girl in her own back yard... and the cops ain’t done shit and they know who it was. I’m tellin you some places don’t matter night club or not you ain’t safe on your own home. This is a city of only 100k people.
In close quarters, knives are deadlier than guns. People who are serious about self defense and had lots of martial arts training will respect the fact and realize that if you yourself carry at least a 5” blade knife, you will prevail 90% of the time even against multiple unarmed attackers if their stupid enough to come at you once your knife is deployed and they see your determined to take them out. Knife against knife only happens in Hollywood movies. Defending against a knife if you dont have one is like trying to come up with a way to save yourself on the way down as you fell off a cliff. Expect on getting cut but in the meantime try to rake/ gouge the eyes as you try to grab his wrist if you can. If you do get an artery slashed, remember 20% blood loss is shock, 30% unconscious, 40% your dead if you dont stop that bleeding asap, same goes for your attacker if you cut his key targets.
Such dangerous topic for the student/ anyone.. however some principles can help. So many people have different views.. but i agree with many of the points here.. good topic will do a vid response of my own i think...
Turn 90 degrees and RUN. Don’t turn 180 degrees it takes too long and means that your opponent has an advantage since he doesn’t have to turn to catch you.
That is an excellent video guys my two favorite instructors, I truly now understand what Mr Drossos is saying about knife defense! I also understand why a couple of my instructors in the past wouldn't teach the knife defense in martial arts because they don't make sense and I pressure tested knife defenses 15 or so years ago and they failed because they were traditional knife defense in Tae Kwon Do that I learned! Well done guys and Thank you for exposing the truth and myths about actual knife defense!
I'd say many martial artists skip knife defense because it's so hard to look good! Important lessons we should all practice, though. Thanks for the comment!
I've been working on a new novel for a good bit of time now, and this has been one of the best resources to see/describe real hand to hand/knife combat. Thank you so much for a very accurate demonstration and descriptions of the situation, hope everyone stays safe out there thanks to this video!
Freakin amateur night with these clowns. Experienced people know that when someone pulls a knife on you you're supposed poop your pants and roll around. Overwhelming your attackers senses and not giving him a stationary target.
Very interesting approach to self-defense against a knife. Especially the first and second sequences of identifying the threat, then raising your hands to trap. Then it depends on your skills. I would probably control the arm with the knife if I already got it trap. I learned something from this video!
I'm sorry, but watch active self protection lesson videos. It shows actual murders of all kinds and defense. And it can go either way. Basically Dominate that hand and keep away his leveraging Arm. Most stabs happen fast and the attackers use leverage. Counter and dominate that knife hand, go with everything you got. And you might have a chance.
I also watch active self protection and David is spot on. Deflect, dominate, distract being key but when it comes to knife attack its first and foremost awareness, watch the hands, keep distance, don’t let people close, run if you can, defeat leveraging arm. Fight for your life with everything. If ur very lucky you might survive
My uncle did martial arts for a number of years and he explained that in Japanese techniques, they'd stop the weapon-using arm and move into the "narrow game" as Fiore de'i Liberi called it. Also, I currently study and practice Historical European Martial Arts and it was explained that knife attacks aren't often open-field, and with my studies, I saw a lot of quick arm locks like Fiore's middle key, which may be applicable but it's yet to be seen. With the collar-grab, his manual explains you need to either break the grabbing arm or restrain the knife arm. I found this very informative and I'll be sure to take on your advice and technique if I do find myself in that situation :D.
J the Welsh Warlord Sounds badass what you're doing. I forget the name of this martial art from philippines, Kali or something, and it's about knife fighting. Maybe you should look there.
RandalfElVikingo Look up the following: Skallagrim, Scholagladiatoria, Blood and Iron HEMA, and Academy of Historical Fencing as they're all HEMA practitioners('s channels). I've heard of the art Kali but I haven't seen much, but I'll give it a look. There's also a whole website of historical European combat and self defence called Wiktenauer.com, you should check it out.
This guy makes so many good points! I tried karate because i wanted to try self defense, but I realized how bs it was, they were acting as if the attacker would wait for you to make a move, and that they wouldn’t resist. When i defend myself against an attacker, they wont just stop attacking, they will resist. And thats what i think traditional “karate” classes forget about
Other than the bit on parrying, it seems very practical. The energy is on point. All around, a very good video in my opinion. Entertaining. Educational.
I have watched this guys self defense videos where he fights off like 4 guys and he does it pretty dam good, actually does it as opposed to all the fakes out there. I haven't watched this particular video yet but i can bet it is not fake shit, i will reply after i watch it too!!
So your choices, if you can't run away, are to trap the knife arm or parry it. Then you have to strike the attacker. Two things need to be said. You have to do quick reaction drills to develop the ability to block a knife. This means parrying full speed punches and simulated knife thrusts. You will find that at full speed your eyes soon go out of focus, allowing you to pick up quick movements in a wider field. If you've never experienced the out of focus vision, you haven't yet developed your reaction speed. The other thing is that when you strike your knife attacker you must use a DISABLING strike - either to the eyes or the throat. You can't fool around with throwing a mere punch or some grappling move. When practicing a finger strike to the eyes, your partner should be wearing eye protection.
No one mentioned kicking the attacker's wrist holding the knife if there's some distance or his balls if he's closer. You don't need to be very skilled to do that and it's very effective, while trying to parry the knife with your bare hands will most likely get you stabbed if you're not an expert.
One thing is that there is assumption that you'll be attacked in a nice place with bright lights. It maybe be dark, or darker, so you can't depend on seeing details, but the overall space the attacker(s) is. But forget the word attacker. You're the attacker.
thank u for this. knives are my second biggest fear and i have tried to overcome that fear by watching videos on how to dodge knives but they seemed very unrealistic. still scared of them though!
If you're scared, that means you're smart! Like all scary things, the more we face them and understand them, the better we get at controlling them. We may still die, but at least we won't be as scared! :) Thanks for the comment, Tiffany!
Tiffany Stanton it's all well and good watching videos for tips and ideas, but with respect to the great martial artists that make those videos, they're utterly useless unless backed by practice. Even then, too often the practice is with a friendly, cooperative partner. The knife attacker thinks he has the edge (pun intended), but if you manage to trap his knife wielding hand, his thoughts are going to turn to avoiding being cut by his own blade. To that end, he's not going to do a forward roll, slap the mat, stand up and now to you. So I think these excellent videos certainly have value, but practice, practice, and more practice are all also essential.
I came here because in India, a woman got stabbed in the crowd and no one bothered to take action cause he was armed... SHE DIED THEN AND THERE... I REALLY NEED TO LEARN SELF DEFENCE.
I got a leg up and probably why I've never been stabbed is because I NEVER let anyone in my space and I ALWAYS watch the hands. I love that he confirmed you need to watch the hands at all times. None of that watch the eyes movie crap. Their eyes ain't gonna stab you or shoot you. This is very helpful thank you.
A knife attack is vicious, brutal and MERCILESS. In order to have a chance to survive, the defender needs to at least match or surpass the level of brutality he/she is faced with. I say attack the attackers eyes by FEROCIOUSLY sticking your fingernails in to the attackers eyeballs. The sharp pain caused by your finger in the attackers eyes and his/her inability to see you, greatly increases the odds in your favour. However "FEROCITY" is the key essential for the deffender to succeed. A half-hearted defence is going to allways be a failure.
IDEK But I Animate not entirely true, if you get sent to court they will ask you if you could’ve avoided the situation by running away etc... if you say yes you’re guilty but if you feel like you had no other choice then you are not guilty i don’t entirely agree on the self defence laws in the UK but it is what it is
Finally a Realistic approach

@Lady Trek2space buy a gun and be alert
@Lady Trek2space you can learn anytype of martial arts...the main thing is to focus on the actual application of the technique you are learning
Stop lying
Phew.. if you didnt notice you could've died in a young age!
Just stay alert everyone, don't zone out and always watch people's body actions. If you see someone approaching you in an odd fashion might be time to jet. Especially walking around at night just stay on your toes and make sure you are keeping full surveillance of your surroundings not just at night but at anytime.
Thanks for that!
Ahmet Bilgin I never paid attention to my surroundings until the first and last time it almost got me killed. I learned a lot that day.
And bring a nuclear

The only way to defend a knife attack is to....
RUUUN
Thank You! Finally someone acknowledged the fact that 1-2-3 looks fancy during drill but it wont work in a real life situation!! And your opponent is not going to flash his knife before attacking, hell, he wont even going to let you know that he has a knife, let alone where!
Great video :)
The truth ain't pretty, is it. Thanks for the comment!
(Knife dueling and carrying knives was completely legal here in the Philippines up until the late 80s.)
I'd make a video, but my camera's not really working right, but I'm sure just by reading this, any martial artist can figure out what I'm suggesting. :)
I think 1-2-3 drills are good maybe for developing reflexes and eye-hand coordination, but I definitely think Nick's approach to knife defense should be at the heart of your training.
Nick, I've watched your videos for a while and really like your approach. It's good to see you here with Sensei Ando.

God bless.

@peroh ye fr
Christian Sermons and Audio Books you’re gonna lose your channel if you describe how to defend yourself in a knife attack???
Absolutely hand over your phone or wallet... and run! Thank you for the comment!

Knife defense = gun + distance.
Lol. You got that right!
Women would be fu cked trying to spare with a man with a knife like this
Guns are quite often a false sense of security. You need to know how to use your hands.

100eyes yeah, and people who hang out with jerks too.
Lots of truth there! But I'd say it's still better to train than not to train.
Absolutely. Be cool and keep your cool. That's the self-defense 101!

in Scotland knife attacks are pretty common so we learn to headbutt. Its not very elegant but effective . unlike the US we are more used to very close quarter fighting as we have pretty much no guns In the clinch just bat them with your nut and its like a hammer , stun them long enough to take control but usually they are floored with an impressive nose fountain then go and enjoy yer haggis .

People in the Middle East especially the gulf region are so blessed. Low crime is indeed a big blessing

Me who watched this Video:Oh, so you're approaching me?
Nick your technique is quite realistic. We need more knife attack defence scenarios.Cheers.
Turn 90 degrees and RUN. Don’t turn 180 degrees it takes too long and means that your opponent has an advantage since he doesn’t have to turn to catch you.
Me- gets in this situation after watching this video and gives them my wallet

how to survive a knife attack
*pull out a cold steel espada XL*
fucking badass
I was stabbed a year ago (not badly just in the leg) but this is the most realistic approach, thank you, this could save lives ❤️❤️❤️
Damn I was always doing this with keeping my hands up just in case unknowingly. Now this explains some stuff to me.
Thank you for the comment!

No way! The trivago guy with white hair teaches defense, amazing!
Yes. I have some free time. ;)
Daniels Mardones yeah, and he can help you get a great deal on a hotel room too!
Self-defense? Ando.
He makes it easy...😁
I've been working on a new novel for a good bit of time now, and this has been one of the best resources to see/describe real hand to hand/knife combat. Thank you so much for a very accurate demonstration and descriptions of the situation, hope everyone stays safe out there thanks to this video!
Cool! Good luck on the novel!
I like how he doesn’t just say they are going to stay still or not have reflex’s he is realistic
Right!
Freakin amateur night with these clowns. Experienced people know that when someone pulls a knife on you you're supposed poop your pants and roll around. Overwhelming your attackers senses and not giving him a stationary target.
Seeing a tinge of brown in somebody's white pants is enough to deter any knife attacker.
I spit up my coffee. :)
+ mrchrislikestolaugh - Haha! You clever SOB!! 😂
mrchrislikestolaugh 😈🤚🏼 HAHAHA
Agreed
Very interesting approach to self-defense against a knife. Especially the first and second sequences of identifying the threat, then raising your hands to trap. Then it depends on your skills. I would probably control the arm with the knife if I already got it trap. I learned something from this video!
Thanks for sharing your notebook, François! 🙏🏻
+1 for the "improvised weapon" remark
I just learned Im fucked in Knife fight 😂
HA! I understand. :)
just carry a knife. lots of nice knives out there
OR just carry a gun. :P
Valentin Bozhilov by the time you draw the gun you will be stab/kicked/punched so many times
Right. There are no guarantees. Sometimes you're just gonna die! Thanks, David!

A lot of truth in this video
Good to see you, Brad! Thanks!
Thanks Brad
Thanks man found myself in the hood in New Orleans I forgot my act of denfense so I appreciate it
My uncle did martial arts for a number of years and he explained that in Japanese techniques, they'd stop the weapon-using arm and move into the "narrow game" as Fiore de'i Liberi called it.
J the Welsh Warlord Thanks, I'm going to have a great reading
Great tips and reading suggestions! Thanks for sharing, sir!

You might want to add a disclaimer for all the bjj flip-flop wearers.
This guy makes so many good points! I tried karate because i wanted to try self defense, but I realized how bs it was, they were acting as if the attacker would wait for you to make a move, and that they wouldn’t resist. When i defend myself against an attacker, they wont just stop attacking, they will resist. And thats what i think traditional “karate” classes forget about
all you need is speed.
I haven't watched this particular video yet but i can bet it is not fake shit, i will reply after i watch it too!!
schools almost starting, and a new row of year 7's are comin, I need preparation
I see only one improvement to make, do a panther's strike to the neck when you step in, a panther has the perfect punch for that.
Excellent. :)
This is by very far (so far) the best vid I've seen on this topic.
Thank you very much!
Good tips! Thanks!
Truth! I say the same thing in my video How to Learn Martial Arts from a Video. Practice, practice, practice!
When growing up in England, learning to disarm a knife is mandatory. Lol
I came here because in India, a woman got stabbed in the crowd and no one bothered to take action cause he was armed...
SHE DIED THEN AND THERE... I REALLY NEED TO LEARN SELF DEFENCE.
Always try to redirect the knife towards them as well
What if they die

@@nahiproductionbeats4967 If somebody tries to stab you chances are they deserve it
Damn I wish I had seen this video before
Glad you saw it now! Thanks!
Thanks for watching
Most ppl say run but most ppl not fit enough to run
HA! 😄
Absolutely. Thank you for the comment!
"A half-hearted defence is going to allways be a failure." Agreed!

That’s what I did when someone trying to kidnap me before
@@softwavy5974 Damn...may I ask what happened exactly?
On Britain that will get you arrested the most you can do is run, or you'll be arrested for assault
