Leo Sayer is an English-Australian singer-songwriter musician whose singing career has spanned four decades. He had quite a few hits in the 70's such as "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing", "Long Tall Glasses", "The Show Must Go On", "When I Need You", "Raining In My Heart", "Orchard Road" etc.

This was written by Sonny Curtis and Jerry Allison who were 2 of Buddy Holly's Crickets. Recorded by The Crickets after Buddy died. Bobby Vee did an early cover of it in 1961. Of the three, Leo's cover version was the biggest hit.

See now, Jamal and I were educated today. I had only ever heard this version, and I never knew that this was in fact actually a cover which would explain the country feel of it 😁
Sonny Curtis is known for writing things that have me saying, "Get out of here! I never knew he wrote that!" Another one is the theme song for the Mary Tyler Moore show, Love is All Around, which Joan Jett also covered

Jamal: Good to see you taking tentative steps back into music reactions 👍👍Persevere Good Human 🙂
In the UK, this track was #2 for Leo in 1980 and #4 for Bobby Vee in 1961 which was when I first heard it. First recorded by The Crickets. Later in the 1960s there were some EPs by Bobby Vee and The Crickets released containing Buddy Holly covers.
BTW Jamal, I searched your YT channel and you appear to have only reacted to Leo's "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing". Try some of his earlier material e.g. "Moonlighting", "One Man Band" or "The Show Must Go On". Good stuff!!

      Edit
According to author Mark Lewisohn in The Complete Beatles Chronicle (p. 364), the Beatles performed "More Than I Can Say" live in 1961 and 1962 (in Hamburg and Liverpool and elsewhere). Author Allen J. Weiner in The Beatles: The Ultimate Recording Guide (p. 206) affirms this with the note that it came from a setlist made at the time by George Harrison. It is unclear whether the lead vocal was by John Lennon, Paul McCartney or Harrison. No recording is known to survive.

Jamel! You have to listen to an extraordinary song, mostly unknown in America, but a big big hit in Australia. It's "Evie I, II & III" by Stevie Wright. I highly recommend the studio version, since you can get all the nuances that a live version would sadly loose. An iconic song about love and death.

It is a cover version ,but Leo and quite a few hits this i believe was his last US chart hit .
He had two US no.1 s. You make me feeling like dancing and When I need you.
    He is an accomplished songwriter.
Three Dog Night covered his debut Uk hit The show must go on which was a big US hit and he wrote Giving it all away ,
which Roger Daltry of The Who had his biggest solo hit in the Uk .
He had a resurgence in the Uk in 2006 his track Thunder in my heart was sampled and turned into a big dance hit that went to No.1 in the UK.

Looks like YOU MAJE ME FEEL LIKE DANCING is the only other song of his that you’ve reacted to so far. Another to consider is WHEN I NEED YOU. I think the songs he does that really made me notice what vocal talent he really had were his 3 Beatles covers for their soundtrack for ALL THIS AND WIRLD WAR II. They are THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD, Let It Be, and I AM THE WALRUS (an especially difficult song that he delivered masterfully). Hope you will consider reacting to his covers and maybe even give your opinion compared to the Beatles originals. I highly recommend ALL THIS AND WORLD WAR II and it’s soundtrack for anyone who’s interested.
