- In this video we share the transformation of a mudroom closet into a functional cleaning closet. Ken made shelving, installed a clothes hanger system, and a broom/mop holder. Thanks Patricia. Sometimes organizing can get overwhelming when you think of the whole house, I just pick a smaller more manageable area and focus on it. A little here and there adds up over time. Have you tried the fly lady method? ❤️ Shelby

Man, I wish I could be that organized.
I take one small project a week, sometimes it is just organizing a drawer and over time it adds up. I find you spend less time cleaning and looking for things when everything has its place. I'm still plugging along each week myself. Thanks for the nice, kind words. Shelby

Denise we visited Oregon last fall and OMGoodness, it was beautiful!!!! About 30 years ago my sister in law were coupon queens for a summer, and then I was so busy didn't do much. But since we moved here, and have the time it has been fun couponing and getting deals.
Ken has gotten off one blood pressure medicine, and caffeine since he retired. Next up, yup the chew can is going bye bye. I want to keep him around for as long as I can. Shelby

Ken is so handy!!! I'm late watching this video!!! I am a couponer also & I only buy things we use....I see so many people buying everything they can get with a coupon & I can't justify buying stuff we don't use! I love finding great deals & buying everything on the cheap!!
Absolutely Susan, I only coupon what we use. Ken and I were talking about this very thing, about being a good steward of money. Our first year of marriage, we took our tax return and instead of going on a fancy vacation, we stocked the house with staples, both non food items and items for the pantry and freezer. That one act set us up and freed up our budget for the entire next year. We were able to "buy smart" after that. That one stay-cation set us up for all the years that have followed.
I also recently read several articles about coupon users. 1. People with household incomes of $100,000 plus are twice as likely to coupon as those earning $35,000, 2. College degree holders are twice more likely to use coupons as people that did not graduate from high school, 3 90% of households incomes over $100,000 report using coupons, 4 26% of adults with household incomes of $200,000 report using mobile coupons when shopping for food, and 5 96% of couponers say they would still coupon even if they won the lottery. I thought that was interesting, because it says a lot about a person's relationship with money, that is, it is a tool and secondly they are living their life with intention. Shelby
TheQueensCabinet Shelby...I am now on the LOW end of the income scale because I am divorced & on disability, after 8 back surgeries & 8 years now in pain management, I'm still not "fixed". BUT, I have gotten back into couponing because it's something I love doing! I love saving money & after a 11 year marriage where my husband walked out for another woman, he had taken care of the bills, mortgage & everything. Well, we lost our home to foreclosure because he stopped paying the mortgage, we had outrageously high bills due to him not paying them & he just walked away. It was devastating to me & I have had to rebuild my life again. But God works in mysterious ways & I believe him leaving was a good thing for me (I wouldn't have said that during the 2 year divorce!). I am learning to live again, getting back to the things I love & rebuilding my entire life.
Susan there is a channel that I watch and her husband packed a bag and walked out 8 years ago without any explanation. OMGoodness this lady is such an inspiration! She is a school teacher, she cooks, coupons etc but what I'm attracted to the most is her outlook in rebuilding her life. She was at the bottom and took one step at a time and I cheer her on as she gains momemtum. She is getting her finances in order, she goes to thrift stores and finds beautiful things for her home....she is a quality lady, who has an honest spirit and who I am SO inspired by. Melissa thank you for the kind words about Ken. l do all of the above to try and save money. When I have a coupon or products I use are on sale I try and stock up. I do the same thing in my pantry and freezer. Every once in a while I will run out of something and have to pay full price for it.....sigh. For the most part I keep ahead of the game. ❤️ Shelby

Love your videos. Not trying to pry... but could I ask where you live? State or stores you shop at? We are in Florida and many years ago lost the only store that doubled coupons. We do not have Aldi, or any bulk stores at all unless you count Sams club. We do intend to move.... likely this year. We just do not have access to bulk or dry storage foods unless you buy online. No dehydrated bulk foods... nothing. We are in Panama City and get hurricanes and power outages.... just makes no sense that preparing isn't really big here.
Debby we recently relocated from Los Angeles area to NY, we are about 3 hours out of the city and live in the country. We LOVE it!!! I would recommend a book called Strategic Relocation, our local library had it and I am so glad we read it before relocating. It made us consider points I would never have thought of. I thought I might miss sunny California but there is something to be said for the natural rhythm of the four seasons and small community living.
Our village has a store called Price Chopper that doubles coupons up to a dollar. We have to go to the capital region to shop at Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, specialty markets, and even Sam's. So we only get there every few months. This year we started purchasing our meat from local farmers, better quality and much cheaper. Stocking up seems to make a lot of sense for us.
I extended our pantry when Ken went on a tour of the new So Cal Disaster Center, Ken was the liaison for the disaster center and the Sheriff Department. Ken headed the law enforcement portion of the center. It is like a command center for all emergency services, like if there was a "major" disaster situation. Ken said the "water plan" for our neighborhood was to carry a 5 gallon bucket several miles to the local swimming pool....yikes. That weekend we purchased six 350 gallon water containers from Honeyville for earth quake water for our family. We learned quickly if the emergent event was wide spread, you are pretty much on your own until services can be put into play and that may take a few weeks. All resources, fire, policing etc would go through the Disaster Center and they are focused on the "big picture". I'm sure Florida's plan is similar. So I agree with you Debby, I would highly encourage families to build a extended pantry/water supply for their family. Shelby
