Nothing -no matter how precious it may look- lasts forever my friends. That’s the whole message here… It’s so profoundly beautiful that they demonstrate it through this ascetic, yet delicate and aesthetic ritual.
It's funny how the people kept some sand as a souvenir although one thought of mandala ritual is to show that nothing is forever and that it's unhelpful to attach to anything even if its beautiful.
Ho Hui part of the ritual is that those who are present at the closing ceremony get to take a small part of the sand and then the rest is put into a river or ocean which blesses the world.
Ugh, I get what they're saying. But the fact that nothing is forever, the fact that life ends, it's exactly why it's so special and precious; and why it should be cherished, why you should become attached to the things and beings that you love. This life is the only chance you'll personally ever have to experience the universe witnessing itself, every life is that.
In the end after it is completed in one second it is erased to show that everything in this world is momentary and will be erased sooner or later so we should not get attached to it emotionally and thats how they train their brain
ButterFly Xpress that is attachment. Attachment and materialism, both in your own mind, and physically, leads to suffering. That isn't to say we can't appreciate things, we just need to be able to understand the nature of reality as we do it. The sweeping up of the mandala is quite beautiful actually. It requires you to be mindful of its creation, to take in its beauty and appreciate it for what it is. We remember it vividly, because it dies, because it's fleeting - such is life. Imagine how much more you would appreciate your favourite music, if you still had to go to a theatre to see it played; of which you'd be lucky to witness maybe twice in your life time. Would you rather a plastic rose, or one that dies? The impermanent nature of existence is reflected in everything, from our own emotions and sensations, to life as we scientifically understand it down to a subatomic level. Everything changes, everything flows. It's a part of life, in literally every facet. That impermanence, is beautiful. It is what makes life vibrant, alive and worth appreciating. Living mindfully and practicing dharma, is one massive step towards truly realizing this. Their patience is a practice at first; however, at this point in their life it is simply a result of subconscious and inherent action, intent, patience and understanding of life, that allows them to do this so calmly. They do not need to try to be patient, they simply are. Little food for thought there for you :) Maitri
You understanding is completely wrong its essence is not to make good looking pattern it is a energy storing pattern first they created the mandla then they energised it by mantras at last distributed that material in packet to the people for their well-being
Threw my (blessed & sacred) sand with prayers into the Caribbean Sea.👁️Witnessed a Mandala being built (Bath, UK) - the Energy, Chi was primal, dreaming was different, spirits were lifted. When the Mandala was erased, sand was thrown into the River Avon. 👁️Took some to spread the positive vibes.🙏🏽
Y'know, it really makes me wonder who was the first guy who was like "I'm gonna spend a week making this super intricate, beautiful artwork out of vibrant, colorful sand... and then sweep it all up and toss it into a river." I mean, it's beautiful and the symbolism behind the act is powerful, but I find it funny to imagine someone deciding to do this without the benefit of precedent
Its not really a "first guy," more like many people contributing minuscule things over time . So maybe it started with sand and then it became colorful, and then it became intricate and then it became symbolic . Who knows ? Not me but i used to wonder the same things .
I think this speaks to what we are and what reality itself is, because when you go deep and I mean deep deep into the structure of reality, you find these geometrical designs that hold and shift over time that actually defines time, yet somehow as a monkey I'm able to see it, if I can see what reality is with no traditional sight, In the same way the ancient Greeks quantised matter into units, isn't that proof of a partial participatory universe , am I just looking at myself essentially ?
But that's the whole point of their monk hood and the meaning behind the art peace. It, like life, is not meant to last and attachment to the physical world brings pain and suffering. The idea is to transcend in mind and soul to a purer and happier state of existence.
I like the meaning behind it, my question only is, the colored sand can't be natural, so is it safe to return in the water? hopefully its not made with harsh chemicals since the meaning behind it is suppose to represent "giving back to earth"🙏
Hmm, interesting, I heard of this interpretation - that they destroy the mandala to show that nothing is forever. Nevertheless, I have also read an article, stating that mandala is a symbolic house for a deity. And they destroy it after the ritual is made and deity is made free again, that is why they do it - to swipe their connection with the earth plane. I wonder, what is truth.
Do the monks receive any compensation/donation to perform their work at the college? If they are showcasing their work for compensation then the meaning is lost as it would then be for entertainment for hire.
‘Hey, dude.’ ‘What?’ ‘Truth or dare?’ ‘Dare.’ ‘I dare you to scream at the top of your lungs and mess up the ceremony.’ ‘...’ ‘...’ ‘...alright.’ ‘wait I was joking don’t-‘ ‘ *AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA* ‘

To go to all that effort, just to sweep it up 🙄 at least look at it for afew days first. I bet the monk who spent time sorting all that sand into separate colours would sob each time they mix it all up 😨
@@1476-u1z it is beautiful 👍 but for a monk to spend time separating sand into different colours, for other monks to make a beautiful piece of art, to then sweep it up and start again must be upsetting. Even if they admired for days first ...
