    The locals that work in the service industry are struggling to live here because rent is outrageous. 6 people deep in a 1 bedroom splitting 2400 a month rent.

      Agreed, it's a full-on housing crisis down here now and a big apartment complex is about to hit the market and be up for sale, that means rents at the place (Oceanwalk) are definitely going to rise when the new buyer takes over.

    I've visited Key West many times over the last 25 years, and each time it gets harder and harder to leave. My wife and I plan to move down there at some point. But I am sure that the highs of being there a few days will eventually reveal downsides to living there, as any place you live in does. Right now we live in Houston, and while we love the culture, food and many amenities here, there are downsides too. It's all about perspective and what you find most important. The thought of being near the water and the general vibe we get when we are in Key West will win out over the lack of big city attractions we get now. As long as you remember the main reason for moving somewhere you'll be able to better weather the doubts when you find a place isn't perfect.

    People are happy to work in the service industry here? LOL They are working three jobs to make ends meet.

      Thanks for the comment and for watching the video Nancy M. To be clear, what I said in the video is that people are "Happy To Be Here" (I did not say people are happy to work in the service industry) I feel that loving where you live results in happy people giving great service. Key West service workers are a huge part of what makes Key West a special place, and therefore should be complimented for their hard work. Of course there are exceptions to everything and I am sure there are a few people who are miserable for whatever reason and therefore give lousy service but lucky for me I have never met anyone in Key West like that.

    Con: chickens/ roosters everywhere 😬

      Good point GG, It seems in recent years the number of chickens is increasing even though the city has been trucking them out of town.

      And you can't catch and eat any of them, even when they are in the parking lot of Popeye's or Dion's

    2 Things I absolutely hate about the Lower Keys...1.) Hard to find a decent steak except at overpriced restaurants; 2.) seafood is cheaper in the freezer section at Winn Dixie

    Do fruit trees grow well in the keys? how about vegetables? I am in south FL where mangos grow well.

    • @KeyWestLiving
      @KeyWestLiving  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Joey, Yes fruit trees and veggies grow really well. In fact, many of the islands in the Keys were originally used by settlers as farms for Mango, Pineapple, Tobacco and other items.

    You showed our house on Casa Marina Ct when I was in the 7th and 8th grades. That put a smile on my face. My parents wanted to come back to Kentucky our original home in the 1960s.

    any supermarkets in key west?? or do you have to travel to them?? whole foods, win dixie, etc etc, or health food markets?

    • @KeyWestLiving
      @KeyWestLiving  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Antonio, great question, thanks for reaching out. Publix and Winn Dixie are the "Big Box" grocery stores on the island. Of those brands, we have two Publix locations and one Winn Dixie location. Another popular choice with a more "home town" feel is Faustos which has two locations on the island. Although more expensive than the big box stores Faustos is locally owned and has been in business on the island of Key West since 1926. Next time you're in town drop by one of the two locations and check them out. They also have a nice variety of healthy options there. On the island, there are several healthy food buying options all of which are the small Mom and Pop type places.

    "Human family"? "Self-policing"? Unsettling words...

    • @KeyWestLiving

      ONE Human Family, that means we take care of one another.

    • @AngelCullen
      @AngelCullen 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why is that unsettling? We were all made by God, and Jesus died for us. Why are you so worried about words?
      “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
      If people live in a community that supports and encourages each other AND keeps crime down by being good neighbors and working cohesively to establish and maintain healthy mindset, why is that such a negative thing??

    I’ve been traveling to key west for years. We wanted to live there but I just can’t seem to make it work out. Housing is outrageously expensive, no parking and you have to have a license to rent out your property like an air b n b or you can only rent out long term. This is the biggest scam. You have to drive up the keys to shop anywhere decent and jobs for professionals are few and far between

  • @tomboard1

    What about ebikes? I've heard they are frowned upon. Or instead of a car electric carts. Is that still a parking problem?

    • @KeyWestLiving
      @KeyWestLiving  ปีที่แล้ว

      Parking golf carts is tough for sure. People will complain about all modes of transportation if given the chance so do what makes you most comfortable and ignore the whiners 🙄

    Is flooding a problem? What do you do in hurricane season?

    • @KeyWestLiving
      @KeyWestLiving  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on where you are located on the island it can be, we have lots of homes that are not in a flood zone and have remained high and dry for hundreds of years :)

    Any reason you put in an aerial shot of (looks like Clearwater Beach)?

    • @KeyWestLiving
      @KeyWestLiving  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes there is a reason, the drone footage is of a resort just up the road in Marathon. Key West has a super busy International Airport and a Naval Air Station which makes getting authorization for me to fly my drone here a challenge.

      @@KeyWestLiving I like your videos. My only suggestion would be to keep it authentic. Looks like you threw in a Bourbon Street video while talking about Duval Street too. Good stuff though. 100% agree on that drive too. Can't beat those views.

      @JB-po6ml ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah you’re right about flying drones in Key West, I live near the yacht club on stock island and I can’t fly a drone which is actually a good idea because some of those jets get really low in that area! Lol

      I'm sure it's a bit easier to drive to the Keys vs Nicaragua.
      What will you do when the WHO stops all travel between countries for the next plandemic?
