Thank you for watching Laurie. Since Jimmy's passing, its so important to keep his memory alive and that includes the locations and stories behind the songs. Please check out the other vlogs as I will have other vlogs coming in the future.
Thank you so much-going to Key West next month and I am definitely looking some of these places up-some I knew about but others I didn’t!! Thank you so much!!!
Another Buffet story. I was in Dutch Harbor, Alaska in about 1991. Jimmy came flying into town unannounced. The word was he was doing research on a book he was writing. He gave a free one-man acoustic show at the Elbow Room in Unalaska. Last song of the night was A Pirate Looks at Forty. I was working. Didn't get to go but had friends that did. The book turned out to be Where's Joe Merchant?
That is an awesome story! I love hearing these types of first person memoires from that time period. I bet you were pretty jealous of your friends but hey you still get a good story out of it too.
David - you dont know how much I appreciate your vids. been a very rough 8 days . Im going to give JB a "proper send off: when I return to Cancun / Yucatan area in Jan. , prob in Sisal or isla contoy . very hard to let go and continue the party since our Chairman of the Board has gone to the big Harbor in the sky . I had just got out of the Infantry , U.S. Army , Desert Storm cerca '92 or 93 and wanted to have a good time. went to Crystal Beach , TX w/ my buddy from highschool, after a booze fueled weekend. I dropped him off. I cleaned out my jeep and found 'JB ' s greatest hits cassette , had been soaked in beer and sand, lol. I played it ( couldnt believe it worked) and was hooked. songs about the gulf coast / Mexico / beaches , I was hooked. Uncle DEE 🤠
Uncle Dee - first, thank you for your service, I too served around that same time but in the Marine Corps. Jimmy's Boats Beaches Bars and and Ballads along with Feeding Frenzy got me through some very rough times. Even though he is gone, he will never be forgotten. And this means keeping his music playing, living the life style, and telling these stories. I thought Jimmy's last words to his sister Laurie said it best: "Have Fun". I will have more vlogs coming in the weeks, months and years ahead - hang in there brother. Fins up.
Bought back memories of early 1980's in Key West eating the Full Moon Saloon Fish sandwiches in the wee hours of the morning. Yum! I still miss having them.
Thank you so much for watching and thank you for sharing your memories! Comments like yours are a big reason why I started this vlog. Please subscribe as I will have more KW/JB related vlogs in the coming weeks and months.
So cooL!!!! Thank you so much for the wonderful insight to early days of JB. So nice to see references to lyrics I’ve listened to so many times. Great presentation skills and editing. Fins up!
I was waiting for you to remind us of the Fausto’s motto! It was Fausto’s Food Palace - You Can’t Beat Our Meat! I worked at the West Key Bar before an irate topless dancer burned it down!
Nancy, thank you for watching! That is hilarious! I have heard that before but I didnt think to include it. I bet you had some amazing stories about your time in KW. I will keep putting out these vlogs about Jimmy and his music - he must never be forgotten.
Just watched Jimmy Buffet live in concert over the Labor Day weekend in Aspen CO. He brought the sun, sand and ocean to the mountains. Best Concert ever from a living Legend. Now i'm planning visit Key West.
Got to admit, we are Very much the same we could be twins. You are better well spoken than me and that was great. The only part I didn’t know was “strike up a tune at the Moon”. Never caught that one. Thanks
Thank you Drew! So here's the deal with that lyric, on the original album version - the liner notes have the lyric as "strike up a tune with the moon", however, in every live version I have ever heard on this he clearly, clearly says "strike up a tune AT The Moon". Considering the time the song was written (1979) and mentioning his "old haunts" I think he always wanted the reference to the Full Moon Saloon. Check out the live versions and let me know what you think. Thank you for watching and please subscribe as I have more JB Key West vlogs coming soon!
@@allthestoriesicantell7595 thank you. So I did hear the original lyrics right. But I’m going to agree with your “hypothesis” 😬fancy word for me. Nicely done. Good thinking. Going to subscribe now. 👍✈️🌴🍺😎
David, I have a question for you. I was in Key West around 1981 bar hopping and came across Jimmy playing a solo benefit concert for a sail boat, the Western Union. I forgot the name of the bar but wondering if anyone else in your group happen to be there? It was an experience I never want to forget. He was by himself on a bar stool. It was the good old days because I remember we were drinking $1.00 Miller in the bottle. What I would give to relive that night!!
Thank you for watching and sharing your story. Wow, 1980 and a benefit for the Western Union! What a great way to see Jimmy. This is the first time I have heard this. Do you happen to recall what part of the island you were on for this? Was it near where the WU was docked? Jimmy had a few places that he would visit during those times - notably the Full Moon Saloon.
Thanks to your video I spent the better part of my car ride to work and back home listening to Jimmy Buffett. Honestly, I was enjoying it. Looking forward to your next video.
Yes the original store is where we bought our first JB Tee shirts. On our honeymoon trip in 1986. Still got them. Little tight. Went back in 2021 to revisit out original trip. Not the same town but great when you have more means than the first trip. Still love this town.
John, thanks for watching and commenting. Yes the island has changed quite a bit, but like Jimmy once said: “there’s still some magic left in this tourist town”. Fins up!
Even though Jimmy has weighed anchor and sailed off to that one particular harbor - he is still so with us, every time we smile. I played a gig last Friday that was about 80 percent Jimmy and 20 percent my songs (which are mostly inspired by Jimmy, particularly my songs like "The Lessons that we EARN" (not learn, earn! Ha)" When I sing Jimmy's songs, I can't pronounce my "ah's and gees, when I'm speak'n southern ease" I can't help it! I don't parrot Jimmy word for word or note for note - It just happens! And I'm originally from the motor city (Mid west, years and years ago) People asked me what part of the south I was from!! LoL - I ended my set with a love song from a different point of view (with audience participation) - Why don't we get drunk and ska-rooo? Well anyway, Jimmy is burned into my Caribbean soul, - I can barely control, like a tattoo - so thank you for this and God Bless. Sail on Jimmy⛵
I got drafted in 71, so I figured the Navy was a better deal than Nam. Long story short,, I spent April -August summer of 73 in Key West going to school. At the corner of the street from the Navy base to Duval there was this dude raising hell, cussing like a sailor, but when he played his acoustic he was damn good. I had never heard of Jimmy,, Damn what a memory, and if I hadn't gotten drafted, it would never have happened.

I was hooked from the first time I head "Come Monday". That fall of 74 I think, he played a free concert, paid for by EKU, just him and fingers Taylor. The next time he played there a year or two later, I caught him getting on the tour bus and got him to sign my A1A album, which I still have.
That is an awesome story and man, what an unbelievable memory it is! Cherish that album. This is why I started this channel, to hear from other like minded Buffett fans. Please share the vlogs with any and other fans out there. Fins up!!
In 1974 I saw Jimmy and Fingers at the old Paramount Theater in Baton Rouge, La. Jimmy with his acoustic guitar, Fingers with his harmonica and two barstools. Maybe 50 people in the audience, it was special.
Dude, this video is amazing. I've been listening to Buffett for a long time and it's always been about the music for me. I knew every spot that you showed but it was really cool to see this done with so much detail and backstory. 😎👍
Keywest was wonderful when I lived there. Now old town looks like Disneyland👎😂 loved the squaredance group, the nautical wheelers!! Man I'm heartworm for those days in keywest, long gone.

Dana, thank you for watching and thank you for your insight! It’s hearing from people like you who were there and can offer their own stories and comments that makes this so much fun. I’d love to hear any other JB stories you may have from that era.
That gate is still there, as ‘Coconut Beach Resort’ occupies the property next to Louie’s. The gate has a code on it so the owners at CBR can visit Louie’s property. There’s a story about WHY that gate remains but I’m not sure it’s true.
Dave, this vlog is well done. I’m not a huge Buffett fan, but I found this very fascinating. Great job and I look forward to seeing more, including the final 5 of this list!
3624 sunrise dr was sold in 1998 for 900k. 10 years later sold for 3 million. Last it sold for in April 2021 was 3.8 million. Crazy how much more it is. Same 4 bed 5 bath house. The appreciation is a bitch, especially in the keys. But, you want something that big nowadays in key west the keys in general, it’s going to cost you a few million.
Thank you for watching! Unfortunately I do not know who the people in attendance are on the NW video, specifically the dancing hippy. However in looking closely at the video I do not see Phil Clark in attendance. In Tales from Margaritavision Jimmy simply states that the audience was truly reflective of KW at the time. Please feel free to share my vlogs with any and everyone! Fins up!
Actually the "Original" original Margaritaville was located at 1421 Gulf Shores Pkwy, Gulf Shores, AL 36542 which is now a Walgreens. Jimmy talked about it during his concert on the beach in Gulf Shores following the oil spill in 2010. He licensed the name to his friend Dan Sweet to open the bar. Part of the agreement had Jimmy performing at the bar at least once per year for the first 3 years. It only lasted about a year but it was the very first one. Not many people know this little fact so no harm no foul. Enjoy your videos
Jimmy always had a knack for stretching the truth. The thought that the Cuban migrants reached Key West went down Cow Key Channel and then down Riviera Canal and landed at Jimmy’s dock seems a bit of a stretch. But who knows…
