My mother loved this. She grew up in Miami back in the 60s and visited Key West on vacations often. Loved seeing the Crandon Park Zoo train and the narrow bridges along the Overseas Highway that were scary as hell to drive across.
I love visiting and looking at the water when my father drove across the bridges. The railing now is solid concrete so you can see straight down like before. I miss it.
Sad how much a shit hole Miami is now....and English has become second language there. It's what happens when millions of illegal aliens have been permitted to come in to America every year.

Nowadays the old roads depicted in this film are recreational fishing piers. I always shake my head at the thought of it being 2 lanes with pedestrians fishing too. And you can actually see it happening in this film.

Would have been amazing to live in the Florida Keys during this time. Great to see at one time, peoples of very modest means could afford to live there.
I was born in Key West 1967 on board a 60 ft Elco motor yacht. Sailed the entire Caribbean before most kids could ride a bike. I left for good after hurricane Andrew. The Keys will never be the same. Big money and big government ruined the islands permanently.
It's crazy how they built the new 7 mile bridge and left the old one.. Just cut out a huge chunk in the middle.. lol. I remember going across it as a kid and thought it was cool.. With dad driving, ofcourse he didn't think so..
The Keys are a completely different life style than the mainland of S. Florida. With the exception of Key West, there is very little crime, no graffiti and great fishing. The downside is that it's gotten more expensive, as more people have moved there. More trash too, especially in and on the water. Too many people blasting stereos on their boats, while trash is flying out and into the ocean. It also can get boring for people that enjoy a bit faster lifestyle.
I bet it's way more developed by now. LOL just kidding. Of course it is. Very enjoyable. I was out on Panama City Beach ( Thomas Drive ) years ago and was soaking it up loving the dunes knowing they would not last and they didn't. It's a shame really time changes things.
I grew up visiting PC when Thomas drive was two lanes with a stop sign where it met 98. That was in the 70s. We caught crabs and trout at alligator point and St. Andrews park. It was my favorite part of summer. Great memories.
I currently live in stock island key west and it really looked amazing back then now it’s overpopulated and everything is ridiculously expensive. Still a beautiful place but nothing compared to what it used to be, I’m honestly not a big fan of key west I’d rather be somewhere in the mountains of NH or Maine.
