    I test played this at Gencon. Great game. I got the Gladiator and Eygption set. They painted up the Playmobil collosuem for the set they used for demo.

    Reversal does not let you fill the tree from the bottom up. You still fill the tree from the top but you can resolve the boxes from the bottom.
    Awesome game, keep it up

    Y'all need to do some more of these "Let's Play", love the tactics of this game. You really have to think through your turn and think about what your opponent can or might do.

    Thanks for featuring this wonderful game. Fantastic report as always. One tactic you could include in future games is to allow your opponent to "react" after your first move. This a significant advantage/tactic that makes an already fluid game even that much more interesting.

    Happy to see you giving some love to Arena Rex. It's such a great game but gets so little exposure. You guys do the best tabletop batreps on TH-cam so I hope this video travels far and wide.

    This does look like a pretty cool game. And, you're right, Ash, the models look excellent! Can't wait to see more of these. And that little arena board is pretty cool, too.

      The arena is a neoprene mat that the company sells.

    Kickstarted this way back... awesome minis (but resin spears are fragile!!). Awesome quick and fun gameplay.
    Oh, and the guys who run the company are really great and have great customer service of there are any issues. Always great to support a company that loves games and focuses on the fans and community.

      All those bits seem to have since been recast in metal so the food be bits are far less fragile!

    Thanks for playing Arena Rex! Everything looked fantastic. I did note that you played Reversal slightly wrong. It can only use "earned" successes. So if you only get two success, you can only reverse the first two damage tree options.

    Great report. Minor note. Favor dice are white. Colored dice are faction specific.

    I've been eyeing this game for a year or so now. Just haven't bit yet. When at Adepticon, I would have purchased some of the models if I had the extra money. The models look great, and I enjoy the setting for the game! Hoping to see more content soon!

    A number of things struck me about this game. I like how tactical it feels. Sometimes smaller games like this seem to lose that (seems to me, at least). The round play area struck me as significant! You don’t really see that (hexagonal arena in Aristeia?) I really really like the crowd momentum as a way to give the team taking damage a boost ... how thematically appropriate is it that the crowd cheers you on as you’re getting cut!

    I'm also trying to learn this game and there's a few things I think you missed, and would have made a big difference in the game!
    First: A guy with a bigger base resists being pushed and ignores the first push against him. When Aquila pushed Micon into Ban-Luca the first time, he should have resisted it, preventing the generation of 2 extra successes. If he made 4 successes to the second push, it would have amounted to the same thing but he only had 3 net successes.
    Second: The Favor generated from "First Blood" is for the first attacking gladiator, not the first model defeated. Owen should have generated it one activation sooner.
    Third: Attacking an exhausted model grants an additional success PLUS a free push result at any time during your damage tree resolution. I don't know if you mentioned that when you pushed Aquila into the spikes, but it looks like you did grant the 4th success when doing the damage.
    Great game, though. Really enjoy your Let's Play! series.

    I still have my KS pledge sealed in box as I've been too scared to ruin the beautiful models with a sub-par paint job. My painting skills have improved since then though, so it might be time to unbox and assemble them.

  • @shotou
    @shotou 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My cohort is a decent size, I love my giant scorpion riding girl, the 3' range and the whole pull you toward her means I can attack over pits and drag you into them, so cheeky~ It is frightfully expensive, especially the shipping , but the models are so good!

    • @GuerrillaMiniatureGames
      @GuerrillaMiniatureGames  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I considered using Zahra mounted but you can do the same with her on foot and she loses reposition when out on a titan which is super useful for dropping fatigue and setting up the next lash!

    • @shotou
      @shotou 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just like using the giant Scorpion because it looks dope. Did you guys forget that if you have a larger base you ignore the first push? My cohort benefit is crazy, I lose all fatigue, and tactics wise I can make everyone do their death effect, which can be baller!

    • @GuerrillaMiniatureGames
      @GuerrillaMiniatureGames  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah several models in the Ludus ignore the larger base size penalty which is nice. I’m painting Morituri next so you’ll see them soon as well!

    • @KevinEslinger
      @KevinEslinger 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong. Mounts and riders will benefit from each other's special rules that directly affect the movement of the mounted pair. Page 14 PDF rulebook. While mounted you will be able to get the reposition.

    Shouldn't Ban-Luca have dealt less damage at 18:47 given that she didn't follow up and thus wouldn't have been able to continue attacking or am I forgetting/confusing a rule?

    Awesome video as usual, Ash! I have just one minor note. The plural of rhinoceros is not rhinoceri, but either rhinoceroses or rhinocerotes (if you want to be pretentious). It's the same thing with octopi vs octopuses/octopodes. Rhinoceri & octopi are hypercorrections by those who aren't familiar with Latin. *End Nazi Grammar mode*
    Anyways, thanks for the great video, and thanks for getting me into yet another cool non-GW game (I've been having a blast converting Hot Wheels for Gaslands, btw)!

    Is it possible to get the cards for the gladiators without getting the specific models?

    • @timberry4709
      @timberry4709 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Go to the Arena Rex website. You can get the rules, FAQ and the cards as free PDFs.

    • @timberry4709
      @timberry4709 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      To get the cards you need to go to the "Store". When you select a model, under the picture they have a selection of different views of that model along with a PDT of the card. So in order to get ALL the cards you need to go to each and every model. It's a little awkward if you want all of the cards but an slick way for them to update individual cards without requiring you to download a bunch of unchanged cards.

    The background fluff sounds mildly ridiculous and not necessary for a game about gladiator combat.. Caesar, Mark Antony, etc are technically still in the Republic btw.. The Colosseum was not built until 124 years after Caesar's assassination.

      It's not exactly cheap here in the states, but, remember you only really need to buy one of each model. This makes it more expensive, no "economics of scale".

      That is true, but to buy two starter teams of three minis each with the rulebook comes to over £100 from the only UK stockist I could find, which is pretty steep for the lowest-cost way to try out what looks like an excellent game.

  • @teh_sid
    @teh_sid 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey mate. Game looks ace, but at ~6min, I find the auto super distracting (I'm wearing headphones) as you move around the camera the sound moves left and right/fades in and out. I know its a technical limitation, and a minor complaint but is there any chance you could look at Lavalier Microphone (a.co/iuqaWll not an affiliate link) to stop the issue? I know its money, so I understand it wont be quick, but it would make a huge difference in the quality of the audio in the videos.
    And now i'll keep watching. Love your work otherwise!

    • @GuerrillaMiniatureGames
      @GuerrillaMiniatureGames  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have a high end Sennheiser one already. The issue is; it won't pick up my opponent and doing two channel audio the way I film is a massive pain. Honestly dude, I've experimented a ton with audio for these videos and this is the best-worst option. :)

    • @teh_sid
      @teh_sid 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mate, then I completely understand! You've got one of the best ways of filming tabletop there is (I'd love an overhead cam but that's not important at all!) and as I said, it was a minor complaint. It was just jarring in the headphones.
      Keep up the great work though mate, its very much appreciated! And thank you for replying!
      Tempted to pick this up, it looks great and it well priced for the most part!

  • @nemo-no-name
    @nemo-no-name 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry Ash, but when you say this is not a points system game and then explain how it is (just very coarse, since almost everything costs 1 card "point" and few miniatures cost 2 card "points"), it's just silly.
    Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a non-points-system game - one easy idea that occurs is a system where units you take enable you to take other units; detachment requirements in 40k are something like it, except they add a points system too.
