I did the Elephant Hill trail last April in a stock 17 Tacoma. It’s the perfect trail! Hard enough to require your full attention, but not so hard that you’re exhausted half way through it. 👍
That’s encouraging. I’m thinking of doing the same this weekend. No armor, no extra lift or new tires…still stock. A bit nervous but going with friends in their lifted keep and a stock FJ Cruiser.
I enjoy your videos, they're nice and simple. No silly music or anything else, just the 4Runner getting after it! The trail looks like a blast, I really need to get my 4Runner and myself out west. Feeling really trapped in Rhode Island lately, haha.

Cool! You’ll have a blast. I usually run 20-22psi. I know people say to go lower but that’s what I run. Gives me a little more clearance, less likely to loose a bead, and if my compressor takes a shit I can still drive it on the road.
Hi...great video! Curious...on that type of terrain, what were your tire pressures? I have BFG K02 tires. The BFG's you have on seem to be doing quite well over the various challenges. Thanks...Joe
MrJovila1234 Hi Joe, Thanks! Glad you liked the video. I was running 24psi on that trail. I absolutely love KO2’s. Best all terrain tire in my opinion.
Hitting Elephant Hill in September for my 50th bday. Running a 2008 T4R v8 with a 2.5 OME lift, Stock sized KO2s, Sliders and Oilpan skid. Your video has been indispensable for me since it's one of the few that shows a reasonably lightly modified 4runner doing the trail. Our rigs are not too different so I think this gives me some idea of what to expect from my truck when running this. Thanks for the amazing work and consider me sub'd.
I love that you hit these ridiculous trails with a relatively simple setup, protection, tires, mild lift, etc. Just shows you don't need all the crazy stuff on a vehicle to hit legit trails. What lift do you have?
Great video! But why the vow of silence? Some descriptions of the trail would be helpful, like "We were in 4 lo here" or "This section bears hard left at the top." or maybe "We didn't use our locker, but you might want to consider it in this section."
Yes you could. On these trails it helps to have skids you will bottom out from time to time. I also bring recover gear. Hand winch, traction boards, shovel, jack, yank strap. It’s a great trail!
Any reliability issue after the 3inch lift? Thingking of getting 4runner, I heard that its best not to lift 4runner over 2.5"? Great video, I really enjoy it!
Rodney Horsan Thanks! No issues, caused by the lift. Remember if you add steel skids and sliders your 3inch lift is probably going to drop down a little. Truck drives way better than stock. I did add adjustable upper control arms. To help with alignment. +4 caster. After I did research I decided not to do the diff drop. The only front end part that has given me issues is the lower control arm bushings. They did not fail but I started getting a clunk when I used them hard and found to much play. I just put factory ones back in next time might upgrade to aftermarket bushings or lower control arms. Truck has 55k miles lift was done around 10k. Lots of hard off-road use since new. Love this truck, and would recommend it to anyone! 😉👍

Jim/rose are you using lockers or Atrac majority of the time? can you do a video for us on tips when you use atrack/lockers? thanks! watched all your videos and in one of them I notice you would have your finger ready to press atrac/locker when it gets technical.
Hi Ched, Sure I can make a video. I use the rear lockers on steep rocky inclines. Especially if one of the rear tires doesn’t have much traction. It’s my favorite of all the nannies. I’ve been dead stuck, hit the locker and up I go. Atrac is like traction control. It stops a spinning tire to allow more power to go to tire that is on the ground. When your rear locker is on Atrac mostly helps with the front wheels. It’s my second favorite nanny. Crawl control is great when you’re are getting all four tires spinning and not making any forward progress. It gives each wheel the right amount of power with losing the least amount of traction. Terrain select I don’t use much and really haven’t noticed much of a difference. I try to drive the vehicle with the least amount of nannies as it makes more of a challenge. But when it risk doing damage to the truck or I’m not making any forward progress I call on a little help from the magic buttons. Lol
You're channel should be purchased by Toyota for advertising purposes:) no blah blah blah. How did it compare to Hells Reveng? Going back next year and have to pick a couple trails to do. I'm running a totally stock trd version color and all no mods. Drove through Hells Reveng with just a few scuffs. No damage at all. Looks possible with careful line selection. Was that cold patch on some of the steep inclines? Thanks for the great video!!!!
Brandywine Maintenance 😂 Thanks That would be nice! Maybe they could throw in a couple spare 4Runners too!😎 I would rate Elephant hill a little harder than the main trail at Devils Revenge. It just has a lot more uneven rocks instead of smooth slick rock. The trail is in Canyonland national park so they do maintain the trail to make it passable using concrete and cold patch in some of the steeper sections. I would rate Poison Spider even harder than the other two. It’s not maintained as well and you have to spend more time picking good lines. All three are rated 6’s. If you search on-line under Moab trail ratings you’ll find a lot more info on the trails and what they recommend for vehicles. If your stock I think you could do elephant hill but you’re going to be scraping bottom. With a 3inch lift and 285’s my steel skids took some unavoidable hits. There are a ton of trails out there. Chicken Corners is a lot easier but we had just as much fun. Let me know how it goes. 😉👍
