I have been cooking lots of kerala recipes these days. Greetings from Tamil Nadu. I loved Appam and Coconut veg stew. It was very light and tasty. I used to dislike the smell and taste of coconut oil but when I tried cold pressed coconut oil from oil mill it was totally mild in scent and taste. Now I cook with it more.
Thank u so simple we used to make but we stir it for one hour mixing coconut milk slowly every ten minutes and finally the thick milk and stir for ten minutes
Though I'm from Tamil Nadu I ws bought up in a complete keralaite community... So even our dialect, lifestyle everything shades kerala. I'm really happy to see this recipe it reminds me of the wonderful Ramadan days.... Definitely I'll be trying this recipe next week! Thank you so much!!!😘😊

I know how wonderful it tastes. Here the Chinese have the same recipe. The only difference is the divide the batter equally into three or four bowls. They add different colours to the batter. Then they pour out one colour batter very thinly in a try and steam, then another colour batter is poured evenly over the steam layer. So it is steamed layer after layer with the different colours until all the batter is finished. The whole cake is steamed and cooled. Once it has cooled down , it is cut up in squares or diamond shapes. It looks very attractive with different colours. It can be pull out layer by layer. The layers are very thin and flexible. I used to love this rice cake when I was a little girl. Yes, nothing else should be added to the batter only coconut milk and sugar. We can grind coconut directly.. And if you add 2/3 hand full of cooked rice for grinding then also we will get soft and perfect kinnathappam

Can we use powders jagari instead of white sugar please. I know colour won't be in white.
yes. you can use..jaggery have impurities.. if you use filtered syrup, coconut milk qty will change. both taste are different..
