My Substance vinyl, bought in 1988 I was 16, wouldn't trade growing up in the 80's for anything, now I'm 52 but this song always makes me feel 16 again😊
My Substance tape, in the late 80’s, constantly played in the car for the hour plus drive to work and then for the return trip home for 5 years. Now I’m retired the CD in there now still getting the rotation😊
Not bad , I was 39 man , now75 Just did new Order cover and do one following week and January 3rd on my channel here ! Perfect kiss so who kissed the froggy did it turn into a prince?
That’s because every dance song written over the past 40 years owes a massive debt of gratitude to New Order. Without songs like this and Blue Monday they wouldn’t exist.
@@djbfhffg that's not accurate at all. In 2007, Hook publicly -- and unilaterally -- announced that he had left New Order, effectively marking the end of his involvement. It was also during that unilateral announcement during an interview with radio station XFM that he declared New Order officially ended as a band. The other three members of the band obviously took issue with all of that, and thus the legal wrangling began. He claims the band agreed with him to end things, and the other three members of the band all unanimously and vigorously said that was not the case. So everyone else is lying and Hook is the sole purveyor of the truth here? That makes no sense whatsoever considering how vocal Hook was at the time about how unhappy he was with the direction the band was taking both creatively and financially. The decision to leave New Order was Hook's and Hook's alone. The fact that the rest of the band had to sue Hook to allow the band to continue using the name speaks volumes to this.
@@djbfhffg nice self-own. You just said Hooky ended the band. It comes down to semantics, but that's my point. Hooky walked away, not the entire band, as you initially claimed. Hooky walked away and when the rest of the band decided to move on without him, he got sue-happy. Notably, he sued Gillian as well, so there goes your efforts to make the dispute a clear-cut Hooky-vs-Sumner... Oh, wait, was it Hooky vs Sumner/Morris? Or maybe it was Hooky vs Sumner/Morris/Gillian?? It's hard to keep track of it especially since even Hooky can't keep the story straight. The dude contradicts himself with every interview he gives about the issue. Meanwhile, at the end of the day, all Hooky got from his lawsuit was a bigger cut of royalties from songs created when he was still a member of NO -- which I think he's perfectly entitled to. He helped write the music. But NO is categorically NOT licensing the NO brand from anyone other than themselves, since they reincorporated as a new business entity almost the instant Hooky had his little tantrum on XFM and he quit New Order. Since the remaining members had formed a new company and continued performing and releasing music under the New Order name, they effectively maintained control over the trademark. There's nothing to this fever-dream you seem to be having that Hooky took Sumner/Morris/Gillian to the cleaners. It didn't happen.
Absolutely one of their best all time! Saw them live in Miami in January 2020 sounded just as good. To be honest, Hook's dominating bass is definitely missed.
I traveled by myself from Oklahoma to see them the last two nights of the Fillmore shows. It was my first time to see them, and as you know it was absolutely epic.
I love how the audience of all ages is rocking out and dancing. I remember this song growing up in Los Angeles hearing it at clubs and dancing to it. And they sound awesome :}
My kids definitely know New Order. We jam to them every weekend while doing house chores. I have tickets this summer to see them in concert for my entire family of five ranging from ages 4-43.
I second Maria's comment. The different generations jammn' to New Order. If your bands music and lyrics can bring all generations together, you are timeless. I can't wait to see you in concert this summer!

Yes, Peter Hook is missing from the bass line. If they could move aside and fixed their issues with one another then they could perform together again. Let's remember Peter Hook is great and all but Bernard Sumner was a big part of Joy Division too!
It's tough accepting the band without Hook. I'm 57yo and have been a lifelong fan. Saw them a handful of times, the last time 2017 or 18 in nyc . They are actually playing my town tonight(philly)with the pet shop boys, not a big fan of the venue, better seats were very pricey or sold-out. I passed but now Im regretting it.
@@ianmarsden8568 he said something similar again recently "I'm gutted that Tony Wilson or Rob Gretton aren't around to tell us to get on with it". Out of all the New Order classics this is my favourite. If you get time, watch the official video. It’s littered with musical magic, you don’t get the this from any other New Order track. Nice to hear you still using the frog keyboard 🤣
Always and forever my most favourite NO song and favourite song in general ever. Unfortunately I just can't get excited when this is missing Hooky's absolutely epic 2 minute, cranked up outro from the full 12" version.
One of my ALL time favourite bands, never had the chance to see Joy Division (Sadly). But, I remember going to the Roxy in Sheffield in the early 80s to see you for the first time

I hear you. I still like the track, though. But here's an observation. When Tom Chapman first started playing bass for them, he played a lot more than he does now. Closer to the original riffs played by Hooky. I wonder if he got tired of getting his riffs compared to Hooky's? Or was it a combined band decision to scale back on playing Hooky's original riffs? I guess we'll never know.
Funny thing is ‘ are we just too old or the phones don’t work or is it because we’re just living the moment and enjoying our selves and not thinking about recording the gig 🏴

Great timeless track, and a great catch from Phil stoppin the pads from toppling over at 1m.36s. All the best from lancashire.

''I stood there beside myself
Thinking hard about the weather
Then came by a friend of mine
Suggested we go out together
Then I knew it from the start
This friend of mine would fall apart
Pretending not to see his gun
I said let's go out and have some fun
I know you know
We believe in a land of love
I know you know
We believe in a land of love
I have always thought about
Staying here and going out
Tonight I should have stayed at home
Playing with my pleasure zone
He has always been so strange
I'd often thought he was deranged
Pretending not to see his gun
I said let's go out and have some fun
I know you know
We believe in a land of love
I know you know
We believe in a land of love
When you are alone at night
You search yourself for all the things
That you believe are right
If you give it all away
You throw away your only chance to be here today
Then a fight breaks out on your street
You lose another broken heart in a land of meat
My friend, he took his final breath
Now I know the perfect kiss is the kiss of death...❤️❤️❤️

Great but not Hook. No New Order without Hook. Cheers
Tom Chapman, who plays bass in this rendition of the song, is one of the best 80's bass players? Interesting theory.
It's still not the same without Peter Hook: his fingerprints are just all over most of New Orders best songs from the 80s.
It's not just the awesome bass playing, it's the attitude as well.
Hooky Who m8
Peter was great but too showy for the band and this Kind of music…
Tom is literally playing the same notes
Yes
🎸THIS is how the baseline should sound. Hooky played with such passion and felt every note. th-cam.com/video/NTeI_I03GD0/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared

Such wonderful musicians! Always!
Where's the bass outro?? It's why I listen to this song.
The bass outro has gone with Peter. Which is a shame really, because Tom is a capable bass player and I am sure he could play it if he wanted.
