I was a 12 year old Neil Young FANATIC (still am) when he was on the Johnny Cash show. I remembered being so excited waiting for the day it aired. That was the same year I got to see Neil Live for the very first time when he was on that first CSN&Y tour…the same tour that resulted in their Live album Four Way Street. Great memories!

Seeing Neil's joy and laughter when they cut back from the song is so gorgeous for the soul because songs I love make me laugh, it's like a part of me can't believe what I'm hearing is real and made by mere humans, I love seeing that purity never goes away. I spontaneously laugh sometimes listening to Zappa guitar solos for the same reason, it's a blissful disbelief that makes me feel like a kid again.
@@Scheboygan8767 I can't say that i disagree. He has a couple iconic songs and lyrics but that's all i can say. He's still considered a legend tho, wether you like it or not.

"Ballad of a Teenage Queen" was a turning point in Cash's career that put him on a small trajectory away from what he was doing in the past. Before that, he focused on doing his own songs in his own country style. When he did "Teenage Queen," he veered away from country about 1957 to about 1959 toward a more "teenage girl pop oriented" sound, ("Down The Street to 301," "I Just Thought You'd Like To Know," "All Over Again," etc). It was when he released "Five Foot High and Rising" that he took himself back to what came naturally for him.
Neil Young what can be said genuinely the most unique and creative person of his generation! I'm 68 years old and when I hear different songs from him I remember that moment in my life 👍

Great interview. I suspect, however, that Mr Young was pulling Mr O'Brien's leg about radio. The industry is "deadman walking" in all but the largest US markets. The big 3 station owners (made possible by the Telecommunications Act of 1996) are all hemmoraging cash (all three have been through bankruptcy already). AM will be gone in 10 years or less assuming they don't embrace the already-20-year-old HDRadio tech and FM is likely not far behind. *If* it survives in North America it will be digital ... which is not what people my age (same as Conan) and older (like Mr Young) really want ... But high-bandwidth digital radio would be better (IMO!) than no radio.
@@Crushenator500 I *want* Mr Young to be right but I just don't think he is. Also, no sustainable business model for the radio industry. #TheKidsToday have mostly lost the "radio habit" because the industry stopped bringing in younger air talent and program directors (at least that's how I see it). You can tell Conan is more serious in this because he knows he’s talking to a music legend
Neil young as a music legend🤣
He’s just an old singer, not every old singer is a legend. His music has not survived the times cause it sucks
