I immediately noticed the pancakes line.
The line that I didn't notice (and feel ashamed I didn't) was the "Welcome to MY Velvet Room". That was a clever hint that something wasn't quite kosher and that the player should be wondering why Igor's voice suddenly changed
also the "i am the MASTER of this place" instead of being a resident
I mean, his voice already give a clue that's not a real igor.. xD
A lot of people point out how P3 through P5's Velvet Rooms all symbolize the type of journey that the protagonist of each game is going on. P3 is an elevator due to the protag's ascent of Tarturus, Persona 4 is a limo to symbolize the journey of moving through the fog to reach the truth, and P5 is a prison as a symbol of the the game's theme of freedom and rebellion. What I find clever though, is that P3 and P4's Velvet Rooms are both constantly moving, with the elevator constantly going up and the limo constantly driving forward, til they reach their destination, the end of the protag's journey. But with P5, it's the complete opposite; yeah it's a prison so of course why would it move? But it kinda takes on a double meaning when you compare it to 3 and 4's Velvet Rooms, which were welcoming and were always on some sort of path. Because of P5's Velvet Room being hijacked essentially and merged with Mementos, it's like the game is trying to tell us that something is off, something's not right. This was not the journey you were supposed to go on...thus it remains stationary, showing us that the protagonist simply cannot move on in his life until this thing that took over the Velvet Room is defeated. (and yes I know 1 and 2's are stationary also but those games were before they decided to use the Velvet Room to symbolize the game's different themes)

@@sovietonion._.3888 True, but everyone already covered those clues in the comments, so I just wanted to point out how the Velvet Room itself thematically represents the situation; remaining stationary and even preventing the protag to move forward due to being chained down and stuck in a cramped cell. There's a whole list you could make about all the clues that point to something being off that become more apparent the more times you play. Igor's voice and the use of executioner devices to fuse Personas are probably the more obvious ones but then there's the subtle details that don't resonate until you realize what the theme of the game is.
@Assassin Of Youth i also like how the game makes a big deal of going against a corrupt society that holds the main characters down. But the velvet room is a prison, it doesn’t matter how much freedom the phantom thief life is supposed to give you because you are still doing exactly what the igor impostor wants. Until you go against him which is the first time you actually get to go outside the cell and move around the velvet room freely.
Also note how you interact with the impostor through the cell door while you were always face-to-face with Igor in previous games.

I personally dont like the velvet room on p5 that will remind you that phantom theives will always gonna be criminals no matter what happens since they treat you as an inmate, Igor's voice is so weird and the velvet room residents are now sadistic twins whereas in p1 to p4 they are treating you as their “guest” and suggests that you are special in a way and Igor's voice matches his personality and the velvet room residents in p1 actually shows you who are the ones performing the velvet room theme
I played P5 first, I wonder how many people were immediately suspicious of ‘Igor’ because they’d played the previous games. I don’t know if I’d have just chalked it up to a new entry bringing a new voice actor. Even ‘welcome to MY velvet room’ is very subtle

Honestly, I hate the voice Actor they chose for Igor in the us version of persona 5. I get what they were going for, but the guy sound like he's growling into the microphone the whole time.
They could have gone was someone who at sounds similar to the original English voice actor.

P3 & P4: Treated as a VIP guest and get to date the hot babes.

As a newcomer who started with Persona 5, I did not realize that Igor's voice was supposed to be so different. I just thought that was what it actually was.

I like how there is always a source for the music playing in the velvet room. For 1 and 2, Belladona and Nameless are playing it. In 3, it could be elevator music. In 4, the cars radio could be playing it. In 5, the speakers at the center could be playing it.
Belladona and Nameless are always in the velvet room,sometimes you can't see them.

My first persona game was P5 to hear “igors” voice for the first time I thought it was quite fitting for his design. But then the end game happened and I hear his “new” voice and was like wait what. Then I watched playthroughs of P4 & P3 and I was like oh, that’s how he’s always been. And then when I found out that his VA passed away after P4 I was like ah that makes sense. But now I’m wondering if they’re gonna find someone else to do a new voice similar to the original for P6 if it ever comes out.
Its the japanese va that died. The english VA is still alive but is pushing 70. The new VA atleast in P4AU is the one that used to voice Junpei, decent voice.
Most likely he’ll return to the original voice if they use Igor on P6, I don’t think the same plot twist works twice on a franchise
The thing is, in japanese culture, its disrespectful to replace a VA that has died. So they could do english but Japanese, idk

As someone who's currently only played Persona 4 and 5, it never actually occurred to me that
A: The Velvet Room was actually, you know, an actual velvet room at one point.
and B: Said Velvet Room actually had a singer and pianist actually performing the theme.
Classy.
I hope if we ever do get a Persona 6, we get to see Belladonna and Nameless in the Velvet Room again.

@@DeusPanis It's not a headcanon. In p4 it's mentioned that the driver of the limo has no eyes, so nameless is the one driving. Belladonna probably dropped aria of the soul on spotify or something.
I didn't realize the plot twist with Igor cause P5 was my first Persona game, anyways, I love going to the velvet room to hear Aria of the Soul, it's so mellow and calming. A great track to listen to while I do my business.

I like how in Persona 5 "Igor" outed himself pretty much immediately to anyone that was paying close enough attention (and had prior knowledge of the series).

The velvet room’s forms in the modern trilogy acts as a stimulus.
3 it was an elevator that advanced towards a destination unvaryingly, as does Death.
4 has it in fog, representing what would happen when Truth was lost.
5 has it be a prison to showcase what would happen if Yaldabaoth won ( he may have trapped Igor but he needed to fool the attendants to get anything done, so it’s clear he has little actual power there.).
All three show just what losing would cause to happen, and thus reminds the hero what they’re fighting for!
If they ever make P6, I'd like for the Velvet Room to be a hospital, with the attendant being a nurse

For it to be a hospital or doctors office it would have represent something like “saving those who can’t save themselves” or “caring for those who are doomed”. Which could work.
My pick might be a dusty old warehouse for “being one of many” or “forgotten by society”.
I just hope they bring back the macabre ways to strengthen your personas from P5. It left quite an impact for me

@@EronArisato1802 yep. Before igor always sounded like he was a servant, even if he was master of the room. In p5 he sounded way more controlling and imposing, especially with "my" velvet room. It's also the only time where "he" doesn't immediately introduce the attendants, or treat the mc as an equal

@@elflordyt6830 The Japanese Voice actor died just a while after the OG P4 was released. The English voice actor for Igor in P3 and P4 (Dan Woren) is still alive and doing voice work. Most notable in his Post-Persona work is Professor Hanneman from Fire Emblem Three Houses.

Wow, that's pretty cool. The first Shin Megami Tensei game has a somewhat different sounding Velvet Room theme. But 'Aria of the Soul' is so peaceful, knowing you're pretty much in a sanctuary or safe haven. Of course, with the exception of Persona 5. I really like Igor and how he serves as the mentor figure to the protagonist, being kind and helpful throughout their journey. By the way, do you own all the Persona games that have ever existed?
I own P3P, P4G, P5 and P5R ( Japanese ), i used a emulator for the other 3 Persona games

hate to be *that* guy, but the first game is just Persona (or if you wanna get technical, "Megami Ibunroku Persona"). Shin Megami Tensei is a different series that Persona spun-off from (but I know what you meant, so no worries)
Sune well, I would not refer to the first game as “SMT Persona” and call it “Persona 1” or “Revelations: persona.” But that’s my humble opinion. Just wanted to share that

When I first played P5 and I heard Igor’s voice, I was confused. I asked myself why was he in a deeper tone compared to the last games?
And he wasn’t doing his usual pose. He should have been there with his two hands together, resting on his chin.
I knew at that moment...that’s not Igor.
How could we ignore the fact there are other people like Belladona, Nameless, and Demon Painter?
They're now forever in my head and whenever I head the Velvet Room music, I will think of them in the background.. maybe they're playing from somewhere? BTW what does the Demon Painter do? I haven't played P1 and P2 but seen a few amounts of it in TH-cam

Persona 5 Royal was my first one, but I genuinely thought at first “This guy’s voice does not match his character.” I mean, I wasn’t wrong considering what happens but when I heard his real voice later on I did indeed chuckle since I was so used to the deep voice.

Persona 5 was my first persona game, so I just assumed that’s what Igor sounded like until the real Igor was revealed.
Played 5 as my first ever Persona title to try. Too bad I didn’t play 3 to even notice Igor’s voice and play the other 3 Persona titles to notice Igor’s way with words, action, and setting.
I started with p5 but when I heard Igor's voice I did not expect it to sound deep I imagined a gremlin of sorts

In my opinion, the artistic direction of P5 is just unbeatable in the videogame history, but we have to admit that the graphics aren't sick at all. Yes, it's really beautiful, but if u look the technic part, it's a nintendo game. Atlus can make something as beautiful, but pls improve the technic part...

P5 was my 2nd persona game first it was p5 strikers so when i played p5 royal and met "igor" i loved his deep voice so much that it bugged me that when the real igor returns he sounds so different

P5R was the first game I've ever played in the series and from the moment I first heard his voice I thought it didn't match his appearance. Then the twist comes along and when I heard his actual voice it was much more in line with what I was expecting. I think it says something that they were able to pull off the same effect with a brand new player like myself as they did with veterans of the series.
P1 and P2: actually a room
P3: a elevator
P4: a limousine
P5: a prison
Smash bros: BREAK DANCE
Persona 1: A mostly empty room, barren and spacious
Persona 2: Smaller, yet has more things; like Igor actually lives in this room
Persona 3: Elevator, always moving somewhere with a table for things to be done
Persona 4: A car, driving to a seemingly infinite destination with a feeling of luxury
Persona 5: A jail, with a warden’s table in the center and lots of equipment at the ready
Q: A crumbling, corrupted void of objects
Q2: its a theater i cant think of anything else to describe it

It still really bugs me, in the first two, Igor said Philemon was his master and set the room up for the player but after 2, Philemon has been MIA beyond his butterfly flying around the protags. Does that mean Igor is now operating independently to help the player or is P still at the helm in guiding the destiny of the various new wild cards, just in a more behind the scenes way?
The blue butterfly in P3/4 is meant to be him watching over the protagonists. In 5 it’s Lavenza but he’s likely still watching over Joker like he was with Yu and Minato.
This is the first time I heard P3 Igor. When I heard his voice in P5 I thought “that doesn’t really fit him.” But I think it’s better than a guy that sounds like an evil, mysterious Oticon. It’s little details in p5 “igor” says welcome to MY velvet room. But in p3 he welcomes you to THE velvet room
A lot of the times when people talk about Persona they usually think of 3 4 and 5 so its very refreshing to see how the Velvet Room looked in 1 and 2. 5 was my first Persona and during the periods of time spent fusing Personas i imagined somewhere there was a woman singing. Glad to know it was actually a thing
So what im getting from this igor owned a club remodled it then took the elevator down to his limo that went over the speed limit so he got sent to jail. thats the connection that ties all the games together right ?
