You are the best at sewing and explaining what is being done! I have been sewing for7+ decades and you are the best I've ever seen. Keep up your great work!
Thank you so much!!
Thank you Catherine. So thankful that you do things properly and the items you upcycle look great. I have watched other people and they are not fussy about how things look. Always look forward to seeing what comes next.
You always make it look so easy! Nothing scares me anymore 😊
This was such fun! Thank you for making this video. The jacket is gorgeous and I just love watching you sew - you're the best!
Really great jacket. Normally not a fan of Bomber jackets...
But a change of fabric and I really like this one. Not a beginner project but that's good too! Always stay until the end! Who wouldn't?😉
Thank you for all the great projects 🌹🌿💝
I love your videos!! You explain each step and why. Your students must love you, I know I would have.
Have you ever thought of picking a project and holding a retreat for adults ?!? I would sign up in a heart beat!!!
Oh my goodness, I love that idea so much!!
Susan, you've really got me thinking about this idea!
@@CatherineSews I am SO pleased to hear that! You have such a talent and just a perfect delivery method with your personality and presentation style. I would think you will have to turn people away (or organize a ‘next one’). Many people go on quilt retreats so why not a fitting /sewing/clothing rehab whatever you call it retreat! Happy to help if I can!
Just more thoughts. You could always just ‘put it out there in the universe’ and mention it in TH-cam. Ask for interest, etc. just to be sure. 🤷♀️
@@susanharber6488 Thanks for the encouragement. I think it would be really fun! I’ll make a community post to check for interest. May I use your name when I say where the idea came from?
Catherine, I don't know what to say,... amazing, awesome, beautiful, genius, fantastic. You are incredibly talented. Congratulations ❤❤❤❤❤
I love the way you managed to block the sleeve to get a couple of extra cm/inch length.
Thank you!! You explain things so well!! I always feel like running upstairs to sew after watching your videos!!
One of the many things I like about your videos is how you explain what you do when you hit a glitch. It is so helpful. I’ve said it before but will repeat it, you’re the best!
Love the zipper stop trick. Great tutorial!
Your bomber jacket, looks great. Very wearable with many other garments. Beautiful construction. Luv, luv it. 😊😊❤
Oh Catherine, you are so so clever, love the outcome so much, the technique of shortening the zip is great, but scary!!
I love how you encounter some very familiar issues and work through them.
Catherine I love this project and it didn't seem as daunting as it looked at the onset. Thanks for the lesson and inspiration!
I love it! You are very talented! I absolutely love that you are up cycling! ❤
Oh! The Zipper shortening tip is great!Thank you!
WOW! I have the same pattern and was afraid to mae it until I watched this video YOU are the best teacher! thanks💗
So gorgeous. That is the cuddliest bomber jacket. And so flattering. This had demystified a lot of garment construction so many thanks !!!
Its looks Super soft and cozy too! As always you're Fantastic at teaching us how to creatively sew. ☺
I really enjoyed this. You explained and demonstrated all the different stages in a clear manner, thank you💖
Wow, that jacket is amazing. It looks so good, warm, soft and snuggly 👏👏
Amazing, as usual. Thank you for your great videos and your willingness to share your talent and skills.
Great to hear. Thanks so much!
You are amazing, love watching you work through problems.
What a concept...a KNIT bomber! I'm so inspired. I have other bombers but not a knit and I'm so looking forward to doing this.
You have a great sense for what will look good, balanced and intentional with these up cycles! I love it❤️!
It’s super cute and very well done. Enjoy!!
Wow, stunning project, Catherine!! 😍
Wow you have the best ideas. Great seamstress. Thank you.
Another fabulous project well done. You are the best by far Catherine. I love watching your tutorials 💝
just bought one because of this page...thanks
You did an amazing job on your jacket. You are so brave. And, I love how excited you get when it is working. Fun stuff. Thank you.
That zipper stop idea is excellent. I did have my zipper fly off..wanted to cry too lol
Very cute jacket. Thanks for the sew-along.
Great job Catherine. I enjoy all your videos. who knew knits would make a lovely jacket. Thanks for sharing.
Bravo, you did great! Everything looks good on you! 🤗🇨🇦
Amazing - that turned out beautiful! Great job!
Oh my - amazing!!! You have my utmost admiration! So cute!
Oh my gosh! This is gorgeous!!
To manage the off-center seam in the rib, you could create a matching fake seam along the rib to create balance.
Gorjus!! Yes we can do it too. What an inspiring make. Love the colours, lining, styling and outcome. Winner, winner, chicken dinner Catherine ❤
This was an amazing upcycle! I love it.
Very nice ... well done ... from South Africa
Again, very clever. I love it. Keep 'em coming.
Thank you for sharing.. This has got me into really trying this. Also love your tips on shortening the zipper.
I love the hack for shorting the zipper! Something I have done to extend the too short seam is piece in a section of the other fabric to add a colorblind stripe. I did not know you can steamblock a knit sleeve. Being tall I always struggle with sleeves and pant legs being too short. I love how your jacket came out!!!
Beautiful jacket.
Amazing Catherine. It is so LUX looking. It looks so soft.
Great job! So stinking cute!
I have been sewing since the 60’s. I just sew, with a sewing machine, across the end of the zipper where I want the zipper to stop. I sew it several sizes. Then I cut off the extra zipper. I cut off the bottom of the zipper, not the top and I sometimes turn the end under if it shows. I still have some of my clothes from the 60’s and 70’s and I have never had a problem.
But would that work with a separating zipper?
@@stephaniemoore-fuller9082 It would work if you sew a thread “bar” on each side of the zipper. It would be used instead of taking the time to sew on the metal bar. The tread will last a long time too.
I found a serger for $55, but a 100 mile trip. Still looking!
I like how you give a preview of what you are making. I am so sick of videos that don't even give a clue as to what they are making. I also like how you talk through your process.
I have 3 long sweaters that I am searching for a refashion idea for. I like the bomber jacket.
Such a lovely bomber jacket! I’m a new subscriber and am enjoying binge watching your videos. Thanks for all of the great tips, techniques, and inspiration.
So happy to have you on board!
This is a really cute make❤ all the thrifted stuff is picked over or bought up. Tough times in my area, so good quality thrifted items are expensive. I’ll shop my closet!
Catherine, you should be so proud of yourself! This was an intense project, with more than a few challenges, for which you clearly shared your solutions. This video is just packed with helpful explanations and close-ups! Such a great tutorial. The jacket is super cute, too! Thanks for another excellent video!
Thanks Catherine for explaining the tricky bits so well. Would you be able to do a video showing how to cut two pairs of straight jegging to make one pair of a little wider, i don't wish to pass on to a charity shop i would much prefer to be able to wear them. I would really appreciate it.
That looks so good. I like the pattern as well will have to keep an eye out for it. I really have a thing for bomber jackets
Great project. I like the zipper stop idea. I have seen the old stop removed and reused but your technique seems easier. For the ribbing, I might have tried sewing another (fake) seam equidistant from the centre. Thanks again!
I have a copy of the same Bomber Jacket pattern. However, I was planning to use denim (from old cotton jeans) to make a jacket. I will have to go back and read the pattern again. I did not realize that I was supposed to use knits. I may never make one now. Your jacket looks soft and beautiful on you.
That pattern is made for woven fabrics, you can absolutely use it with denim!
You’ll just need some rib knit for the collar (if you chose the version with no hood), wrists and waist.
Most patterns made for woven fabrics can be used with knits (like she did here) they may just feel a bit bigger but most patterns made for knits aren’t suitable for woven fabrics.
I hope this helps and you won’t give up on your project! It sounds really lovely!
I love the way you show us everything including the mistakes which you then correct so when we do make mistakes we don’t feel so bad and we know how to fix them. If this is the last of your summer woollen knitted videos, I look forward to your spring and summer adaptions. I am based in Jersey in the Channel Islands of the coast of France. May I ask where you are based please? Thank you I just love your videos.
❤ Love it! You did it again.
Super cute!
Love love love it!!!!
Thanks for another great video
I really liked this... It's super.
You can order zipper stops that come pre shaped to grip the tape to make a new stopper…but lovely garment!
So, so cute! Just got a total knee replacement and can’t go to work for 8-10 weeks! Darn, what will I do? I have SEW many ideas and your videos inspire me and help me be brave! I started deconstructing a tunic top to use as a pattern to make new tops out of vintage table clothes! 🙏🏻🤞 Hoping it looks as good in real life as it does in my imagination! Thanks for another great video! 💕
Congrats on your new knee and on your plans for your time off! What a great attitude!!
Sounds to me like you need some physical therapy - such as pressing your foot on your sewing machine pedal? 🤔 😂 Best wishes for a fab recovery…
@@CatherineSews thanks! Not well practiced at using left foot for pedal, but nothing ventured…😊
Thank you!! Left footed!! @@sewvintageglamwithunadoyle2775
I'm happy to see one more warm-clothing upcycle. And I'm also excited to start seeing spring & summer clothing upcycles! Thanks Catherine😊
WOW! You do make it look easy, but I would be terrified to do that lining and zipper. Maybe after I watched this 4 more times like I do most of your videos when I am up-cycling something. Great Job again. Love the idea and the look!
Gorgeous
I love this one so much! Great job!!
To help ease in the sleeve cap, sew with the sleeve side down. The feed dogs will ease for you.
My new mantra -- at 38:46 "I don't think I'm going to die here, I think I'm ok" - repeat 3x each time I get frustrated with something.
Haha, thanks for taking my muttering to heart!!
I like this jacket. Thank you
Beautiful! ❤️
You inspire me!
I love this! 😍
Great job!
I love it!
As always, you did great.
You nailed it!
Love it 👍
💖💖💖💖💖I can't love this more!!!🤗🤗🤗🌹
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Love it
This turned out beautifully and you made it look easy. Thank you for sharing
You could always add a strip of blue into the sleeves to lengthen them. Love all your videos, you are a wonderful teacher. ❤️
Thank you for another amazing video🤗! By slowly showing us each step and explaining it, I might be able to use several of the techniques. The detailed explanation of the lining process was invaluable to me.Thanks again!
I have a question about steaming your sweaters. Are all your sweaters wool? Can you steam block man made fabrics ,like acrylics and polyester? So many of the sweaters I find are mixes and some would definitely be improved by steam blocking in places.
Thank you again😊💕
Yuss!
Another great upcycle!!! LOVE it!!! Was your sweater knit wool? part wool? no wool?
I could never figure out why my pockets wouldn’t lay flat. I didn’t understitch them!
I’m wondering if that sweater fabric is cashmere. It looks like it. You make everything look easy and that’s very inspiring, thank you
So I have a sweater that is years old. It is a tad to short in the waist and the sleeves. Can I block it even though it is so old?
Worth a try. What do you have to lose???
@@danneyandroid0391 Agreed! And I bet it would work well!
Thanks all. I will try it. @@CatherineSews
❤❤❤
It's not a problem if the slider comes off a separating zipper. You can even take it off and reverse it if you want the zipper to open the other way (i.e. traditional woman's side vs. man's side).
Take blue scrap and felt it. Then design a felt pin for decoration.
Oh, I wondered about doing this! I saved a piece of blue just in case!
good frind
Very cute project. I do have couple of questions. Why not use a ball point needle and stretch stitch?
Wow what a nice bomber !!!!!! But what is a slipstich ?
