- In this video I take a ride to Carlisle, KY to see Daniel Boone's Last Cabin in KY. The cabin was built in 1795 where Boone his wife and 10 children stayed until 1799. He spent the remainder of his life in Missouri.

There were likely out buildings where some of the male kids slept. They would have had work animals/barn/etc. It is a spread of land; those buildings likely disappeared many decades ago. Also w/so many kids, some would have had cabins of their own--not living w/them anymore, w/families of their own. Since the Boone's traveled as a pack, they probably lived in the vicinity, too. So much of this kind of history gets lost in translation. It was a great tour, beautiful land. Thanks for sharing with us!! Stay safe out there on those gravel roads. Blessings.

My mother is a direct descendant of Daniel Boone's youngest sister, "Hannah," and her second husband, Richard Pennington. In case anyone wonders what that makes me in relation to the great man...I can tell you that he is my fifth great granduncle! It's actually quite interesting to read the stories of these people. The Boones, a large family, moved a lot, but frequently ended up with or near each other. Hannah went from Pennsylvania to North Carolina, to Kentucky, to Tennessee, and after the death of her husband, back to Kentucky, where she lived with her son, Daniel, (named for his uncle), until her death in 1828. I found myself looking at this little cabin and imagining what it must have been like to be living on the frontier, raising children, and doing well enough that we are all here today to think about such things. Thank you for sharing.
Yeah it is hard to belief how people lived with so little compared to today. But they had each other and they found a way. Really puts things into perspective. They truly lived off the land. My 9x Great Grandmother, Sarah Adeline Boone Stover, was Daniel Boone's aunt. I guess that makes DB my cousin. We might be related too!
My Wife & I both are related through Hannah & The Penningtons, one of my GReat, grandfathers, I don't remember how far he was, married Johanna Pennington.
I don’t think there was a time when all 10 kids were living there at the same time. One or two of the older sons were killed during the Indian wars. The oldest daughter went back to N. Carolina to live with family. One little side note concerning the kids, one time when Daniel had been gone on one of his explorations for over a year, when he came home he discovered that Rebecca had a small baby. It turned out to be from his own brother. Daniel excepted the child as his own, he said that it was still a Boone.

Boone would have been 61 years old when he built this cabin in 1795. Most of his kids were grown and on their own with their own families.

Maybe the older kids were already married and moved out by the time more kids came along?. Remember everyone married very young then.
Even the old bomb place (built around 1960 give or take) i live in now in suburban Sydney has three bedrooms, all very small. I often wonder how they fitted 4 kids (around that time was number of kids was very common around here) into the two smallest bedrooms with wardrobe etc. Greetings from Aus. 🇦🇺
The Boone's did adopt other children if I remember correctly. I think they were Daniel's brother's children. I imagine some of them slept in the loft and in the floor. Hard times call for desperate measures. Thanks for watching from AUS. Greatly appreciated!

When Boone lived there, the kids had grown and were on their own, if still living. One thought about why he built a cabin there is that it is near Blue Licks where one of the sons was killed.

Wow! This was so cool to see since I'm probably not going to be able to see it in person. I'm a Boone descendant and the more I research my Dad's side the more I enjoy learning about them, especially Daniel. My Dad is a direct descendant of Daniel's older brother Israel who's children were raised by Daniel and Rebecca after being orphaned when both parents died of TB. Israel's son Jonathan is my Boone line. Israel was kicked out of the Quakers for marrying a non-Quaker (Baptist) girl and his Father backed his marriage so they booted him, too.
The grave story is kinda funny in a way. Missouri says he's buried up there in their state still and KY has the wrong person in that grave.
The original name was De Bohun from Normandy (La Manche) area of France. They came over when putting William the Conqueror on the throne in England and were a very prominant family. One of the 25 Barons who forced King John to sign the Magna Carta was a De Bohun direct ancestor of Daniel's. There's so much really interesting history that I discovered while looking into my ancestry. It was a gift for my Dad because there was a break in his family & he had trouble finding out where his Grandfather came from. (His Dad was very young when parents died.)
It's also my understanding that "The Last of the Mohicans" was actually based off of an incident involving Daniel Boone rescuing his daughter (Abigail) & the daughter of another Officer after being kidnapped by Native Americans. He'd already lost a son by a Native tribe. Didn't make Daniel hate the indigenous peoples of the land, though.
Fun fact: Abraham Lincoln's family traveled through The Wilderness Trail with Daniel. I believe it was Daniel's cousin (daughter of his Dad's brother) who married Abe's Grandfather (or Great Grandfather).
I remember reading that 6 kids were adopted by Daniel and Rebecca that were Israel's kids. Correct me if I'm wrong. I've read a lot of possibilities regarding where Daniel Boone is buried. The burial is located in Frankfort and I've read that not all the remains were transported or someone transported the remains of a slave because the gravesites were mixed up. I'm not really sure of course but it is an interesting story for sure. Definitely reading more on the story of "The last of the Mohicans" now that you bring it up. I do know Fort Boonesborough was captured by Shawnee and Daniel was adopted as a son of Chief Blackfish and given the name "Sheltowee" Your comment is by far the best comment I have received thus far, so thank you so much for that. Yes, the grave story was that KY got the body of a slave because they were adjacent to each other (or intentionally because of the dispute over who deserved to bury him, MO or KY.
The story about Daniel's captivity with the Shawnee is awesome. Not only was he with them & given that name of Sheltowee, which meant "big turtle" due to his broad shoulders, but Daniel reportedly managed to escape upon hearing Boonesborough was going to be attacked. Apparently, Daniel ran barefoot the entire way to warn the town and it's not like that was just down the road either. I can't recall the exact distance, but I think it was something like 70-100 miles.

@@growinggenerationshomestea516 It's been so much of a treasure hunt looking into the Boone ancestry. Tons of interesting history & stories all the way back to the furthest traced (last I know) being the De Bohun, which is the original form of the name sometimes spelled De Bohon, in the La Manche area of Normandy, France before moving into Britain. There are still a couple of roads named for the family in that area if that peninsula of France. I believe it was Humphrey De Bohun who was instrumental in assisting in helping William the Conqueror claim his place on the throne.
Also, apparently one of Daniel's direct paternal line was one of the 25 Barons who forced King John to sign the Magna Carta. Another one later on was born in Pleshey Castle which was in the Boone family fir a couple hundred yrs & fortified by them. Although it's not in the family now, the main housing areas are still standing & are still in use for special events. Another one of that paternal line was married to a Plantagenet, daughter of King Henry, if I recall correctly.
@@rebeccacurtis6680 my husband's family were the first ones to settle Letcher County KY. They are Scott/Irish and come from clan McLoughlin. My family is German and we have copies of their signatures from the boat they came on. History is so neat. I'd of lived to live back then

Yeah I thought the same thing and assumed there would be a few people there. You can't see it from the main road but there is a small sign about it. Basically I found it by researching. Appreciate it brother👊💪

Can't imagine being the Middle of Winter, Mom is trying to Cook a small dinner at the Fireplace and there are 10 Kids in this Small Space. These People Had to have had Nerves of Steel and Mentally Super Human.

That was really interesting. The sewing whittling machine is actually a spinning wheel for making fiber for knitting or weaving. Next time I'm down that way I'll have to stop by there.

Just now been studying up on Daniel Boone been watching movies series about four months now. Mr Walt Disney did series run Daniel Boone. I'm kind of a late bloomer getting to know Daniel Boone pretty cool dude. It's never too late to learn something so interesting Mr Daniel Boone. Even about our past presidents just cool stuff out there from the past to learn and key points should be taught in the schools

I'm a big fan of Daniel Boone, I've got two trips plan this summer, (one to the Cumberland gap, I haven't been there since they built the tunnel) and another trip to Limestone city, (currently named Maysville) which was a settlement by Daniel Boone and Simon Kenton. (Which is also the home of Bourbon whiskey. )
Not all of Daniel Boone's kids were his.

There’s some controversy around Daniel Boone’s grave site that I wanted to film now that hopefully the rain will hold off. Supposed not all of his remains were transferred to KY. @@SinisterClutch On one of Daniel's long hunting expeditions (for two years) Rebecca Boone figured Daniel was dead and hooked up with Dan's brother Ned and they had a daughter, but as in typical Daniel's personality, he understood and raised the daughter as his own.

I am currently visiting Kentucky for a few days, and I was wondering what all the fuss was about when it came to Daniel Boone. Thank you for the info! He really was as cool as people say!

Look up the story of the larger than 10 foot man he claimed he killed, him & his son were hunting in the deep mountains & he heard his son in trouble went to help & saw what he claims was a huge tall hairy man with big hands & feet & long Red hair & beard, his son had shot him in the chest twice he saw the blood & wounds from a distance, it picked his Son up & was slamming him on the ground, he fired 1 shot & got him in the eye killing him as it fell on his son, luckily he was hurt but not too badly, they measured it and said it was just over 10 feet tall, he always told this story even when ridiculed, both men always called it a 10 foot hairy Man, so I am doubting this was what we call Bigfoot, I think they were intelligent enough to have said it looked like a big ape or ape man, but they did not, they said a man with long red hair, they cut it's chest open & it would like double or extra thick plated, nothing like a Human that's why his son's 2 shots to it's chest did not stop it, but Daniel's shot to the eye in the head Killed it, they are too far in the mountains to attempt to carry back such a huge heavy thing, they never returned to this particular area for anything again.
Awesome video. I love stuff like that. Back in east TN I used to go visit Davy Crockett's cabin near Limestone from time to time. Also loved hiking the trails by Fort Watauga, history is cool. You should look up Daniel Boone, if y'all haven't, interesting stuff.

By 1799 Daniel Boone was about 65 years old so I would imagine most of his children were no longer living with him

He built it with some help from Daniel Morgan who owned the land then shortly after the Son moved to Missouri as he was the 1st one to arrive in Missouri.
Was planning a motorcycle trip this year to the cabin but will be on my to do list for the 2024 season.

A son of Steven H Chism was born there and named Benjamin Boone Chism, supposedly after Daniel Boone. Thank you for sharing this video. God bless

If you ever wanna check out more places in Nicholas County try Lake Carnico, where I live, not far from the cabin you were at. Hi, loved finding this. My children are 6th Great Grandson's of Daniel Boone through is son, Jesse on my late husband's side (he was 5th great grandson). I did the research and Jesse is not one of the children presumed to be Daniel's brother's due to a long absence when Rebecca and his brother thought he had died... I love finding this. With regard to raising the ten kids there, if it was built in 1795, Daniel was 61 and his kids were grown. A lovely retirement home for he and Rebecca had they not felt they had to leave Kentucky. I will be looking on your channel for more great videos.

Is this in red river gorge area of ky? I know there’s a few cabins or maybe just one of his there. I’ve spent many years hiking and backing in that area. Such a special place. Grew up in Cincinnati, funny because as a child I had no clue how special all of these areas were! Daniel Boone national forest is a great wilderness to explore too. Thanks for sharing 😁

He fought the Battle of Bluelicks, which is really close to there. It's a state park, and if you go during the week, the museum has several videos about him, and even had a salt pot that's supposed to have belonged to him. It was $4 to get in last time I was there. I think you could find some content there. I don't know if they'll let you film in the museum or not, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

e My hubby's family married into the Boone family and some of my Family followed him to Boonesbrough early on! I believe it was one of Daniel's brother's ! They all came from the same area in Penn.and were Quakers in the same Bourgh! My Family were Mennonites from that area!

The way things are going these days, I'm surprised it doesn't have spray paint all over it or even burned down! This place should be locked up and protected! It didn't look like the chimney had soot in it! With twelve people living there, I'm pretty sure there would be a lot more beds! I'm sure the area looked much different when he and his family lived here!

One of those children was fathered by Daniel's brother while Daniel was held prisoner by Indians. They thought he was dead.

My third great-grandfather lived in that same area, close to Carlisle from the 1790s to his death ca. 1820. His initials were the same as Daniel Boone's son, who sometimes is attributed to living in the cabin but it has been refuted. My ancestor's name was Nehemiah Bennington; he's in the records in Nicholas Co. and was in the religious revivalism of the early 1800s. He had 8 or 9 children. I thought Daniel Boone went back up the Ohio River and operated a general store in Point Pleasant, VA for a couple of years with a son settling business debts, liens, deeds, and mortgages while others in his family migrated fully to MO and built what would be his home in 1817. He lost a lot of wealth making settlements to people who thought they were misled on land they bought from him where the surveys were faulty. Is the Concord Cemetery a little north and east of Carlisle reclaimed? It is historical.
Yeah he operated a trading post in 1790 at Point Pleasant but not sure for how long. Is the Concord Cemetery near a church? I know of Old Concord Church south of Carlisle. I believe it was built back in 1793.
Daniel Morgan Boone was the 1st to move to Missouri, in 1799 Daniel gathered the entire Family, grown kids, grand kids & moved to Missouri with them.
He was burried in Missouri him and Rebecca and Kentucky claimed they owned rights to his body so they exumed them both and took them to Kentucky thier grave sites are still in Marthasville Mo they both died in Daniels home with Daniel enjoying grandchildren all ways to thier passing...
