    As a Kentuckian thank you for showing and appreciating parts of our state. We often get a bad reputation but most haven't even been here. I hope you found some enjoyable activities, maybe like the bourbon trail if that's something you enjoy. Thank you again for the love letters of appreciation in digital form, I wish you continued safe travels and many more things for which you will marvel.

      @@myrzamarilyslassus956 that's wonderful to hear, I'm glad you enjoyed it. What I mean is people often consider Kentucky in a negative light, like we are stuck decades behind or something. Like how people refer to Alabama as incestuous, I've heard that a lot about here, like we are all the backward hillbillies in the hills have eyes. People think we have nothing new, fun or innovative here. I was watching a news clip, it was something awful but I saw a few comments say who cares it Kentucky. Most think it's Louisville and Lexington and the rest of us are worthless, toothless hillbillies or druggies. In media, I'll never forget the ending of clueless where they show the teachers getting married and cher says eww this California, not Kentucky.....girl you the one dating your former stepbrother and your dad still treats him like part of the family. When AOL chatrooms got big when I was highschool, I talked to so many people who legit asked me if we had shoe stores. I hardly ever hear something nice about Kentucky that isn't Louisville or Lexington and I just wanted to express that.

    Frankfort is a town where the city government as well as the people who live there take great pride in their city. It’s quite refreshing when you can see pride of ownership. The Midwest doesn’t usually get its fair share of good publicity so I’m thankful that you do just that. When a place is well maintained you show it and if it’s not you don’t pull any punches and call it as it is! As you can see, just because the numbers you shared were below the National average doesn’t mean the town has to look crappy and run down!!

      Yeah I was just going to say I don't understand why people say it is in the Midwest when we are in the south and we border Virginia which is a southern coastal state. I really don't like it when people say we're in the Midwest and I wish they would stop.

    • @jasonmilly3320
      @jasonmilly3320 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@peterbilt-bo1vy - There's no right or wrong answer. I'm not from here (Florida panhandle, also lived in Missouri a little bit)... and this is the midwest to me. At least from Louisville (where I live now) up to Cincinnati, even including Frankfort. I don't think the whole state is midwest, but parts are. I don't think Louisville is southern geographically or culturally. Louisville is even closer to Canada (355 miles) than Memphis (384 miles)... just hard for me to call this the south when I've lived in the actual south before.

It’s mysterious/mystical in a way. I didn’t know that as a child, because I had never felt anything else. It wasn’t until I moved away that I understood how different Kentucky is. You showed some cool things, but missed the best, I live downtown and have for a long time, covid and the construction on 2nd street slowed it down but it's booming again now, I love it here, you missed fort hill , I take pictures there weekly and have caught many unexplained things and what appears to be civil war era soldiers in the woods, that you can see through, liberty hall is haunted as well, the grey lady shows herself regularly coming down the stairs inside, I seen her myself when I was about 12 , macho man randy savage s wife, mrs Elizabeth is buried at Frankfort cemetery also, they don't tell anyone because they don't want people to leave anything on her grave, crazy right !!, I have spent hundreds of hours at the cemetery taking pictures and have some cool and unexplainable things in a bunch of the photos , mostly in the civil war burial area , the old insane asylum is right across the street from the cemetery and it's cool as well, and has its own cemetery, if you ever decide to come back to Frankfort msg me and I can give you a list of things to check out and the details about them as well, I just live a couple of buildings down from the singing bridge and I love hearing it when cars go over it, that sound is why it's called that, you literally walked right passed so much cool stuff but was unaware of it, public hangings were held right at the end of the singing bridge, decades ago of course. You walked right by my door about 3 times. Lol. I enjoy the video it was like goin outside and goin for a walk and not having to be out in the heat. Lol. Which I do every evening. You guys take care and be careful, theres crazy people out there

Kentucky is a bit of a well kept secret. People that have never been here might think it is a backwoods hick state, but it isn't quite fully southern and it isn't quite northern. I travel that road into downtown every morning as I restore the historic homes of downtown Frankfort. One thing that you didn't get to see about Frankfurt is that it has really awesome mountain bike trails a beautiful Whitewater kayaking Creek and some great hiking trails all in the surrounding area. The Elkhorn Creek beautiful kayaking destination best started at the Jim Beam distiller, where you will encounter class 3 rapids and beautiful cliffs. Capital view Park over by the Daniel Boone gravesite has some of the best mountain bike trails around I think it's about 15-20 miles of trails. Cove springs is just on the outskirts of the downtown area and has some beautiful hiking trails with waterfalls and at the top of the mountain there is an archery range that has a 3D archery course

    as someone who has lived in frankfort for a couple of years, downtown died after covid and has not been the same. downtown use to have tons of people walking down the street, hanging out at the coffee tree, eating at a local restaurant, or just sitting outside. but now it completely dead even on friday nights its rare to see 20 people out in the street, unless it was at a bar.

    • @ericwilliams538
      @ericwilliams538 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's not at all entirely true. There are people downtown every day. Maybe not necessarily in huge numbers, but there are people downtown on a daily basis.
      There are plenty of people eating at the restaurants on Saint Claire Street....and a decent amount of people at the coffee shop around the corner.
      I have been doing a lot of work for the owner of the Brick Alley bar, and 8 see the people myself.
      Then the live concerts draw people in as well.
      How are you basing your conclusions??? From one night or multiple nights!!!???
      Did you do an actual study??? Did you write a paper for a college course???
      I just want to know how you came to your conclusion is all.
      Sounds like you are basing your experience off one slow night.

    You should visit Old Louisville sometime. That neighborhood has the largest collection of Victorian period homes in the USA I believe. Beautiful place all around but especially on St. James Ct. Main Street downtown has a whole lot of cast iron front buildings from the Victorian period as well. Louisville, like Frankfort dates back to the 1700's. Another beutiful old town a few miles to the Northeast is Madison, Indiana.

    Great coverage of Frankfort. Love your commentaries and clear appreciation of architecture in all its varied forms. I have very strong familial roots in the state by birth. Squire Boone, Daniel's brother, is my Grand Uncle. I caught a lot of harassment for a while when my classmates found out my middle name is Boone, a Family thing for the firstborn son through the generations. My family is rooted in Louisville (great job covering it) but still owns part of Squire's farm in Southern Indiana. It may be a fun thing to dig into but there is a back-and-forth between Kentucky and Missouri over Daniel Boone's true grave. Legend has it that his remains are still in Missouri and a "fake" body was sent to Kentucky. Probably not true but then...Keep up the wonderful Vlogs, be safe, and enjoy the Journeys.

    You can never be honestly accused of not showing us churches. All were very much worth seeing. At the outer edge of the sidewalk directly in front of the brick path to the gate opening out to the path leading to the front entrance of Liberty Hall is a large stone slab original to the house that was its "stepping stone," permitting ladies to alight carriages and avoid stepping into mud. All grand houses had them but, even in the cases where the houses have been preseved, most of those stones, being out on public ways, have been removed. Great to have seen that one. Following you to West Virginia.

    I live in Frankfort and loved seeing your video! It gives you a new appreciation to see it from an outsider perspective. I hope you got to go on around the capital building to see the floral clock in the back! One note -- you said you always know when a car is crossing the Singing Bridge. That's where it got it's name! The harmonic sound that it makes when cars drive across. Frankfort has it's problems -- what place doesn't? But I love living here, not too big, not too small. As Goldilocks would say, it's just right.

    I have to say, Kentucky has never been on my radar of places to visit. But after seeing several of your videos, I am enticed and intrigued to visit. I am most impressed with the number of well preserved historical buildings in the area and how clean and well kept the properties are. I guess there were no fire, floods or hurricanes or natural disasters to speed the process of decay ? Or maybe the residents took pride in preserving the past. Either way, the city is beautiful, and I love the architecture. I am accustomed to the the Greek revival ,neo classic, antebellum and other southern architectural buildings. The brick and stone has held up quite nice.

      @@terrib627 no that obviously isn’t what she is saying at all. Being able to see something like that up close and personal give an effect that makes what they’ve read on the “books” actually seem real. Why do you think we have museums and other types of learning centers? Do you think we should do away with museums and ALL statues like the one of Abe Lincoln that’s in the Capitol Rotunda where Davis used to reside? The Statue of Davis wasn’t only a Statue but was also a memorial dedicated to the man who spent the overwhelming majority of his life as a Public Servant and building our great country to what it is today. He was not only a brilliant Statesman but he was a very brave and tactical War Hero, that may mean nothing to you but it’s something that many of us Kentuckians are very proud of. Now you may not understand what he was doing leading the Confederacy and I get that, but one I’ll act doesn’t erase a lifetime of exceptional achievements.
