I had a log cabin in West Virginia built in 1935 by hunters on 2 acres of land. Original logs. Unfortunately I had to short sale it and moved to Florida. Somebody bought it and it’s been abandoned since 1998. I went back a few years ago and peeked inside. It was a haunting look into my past life as some of my stuff was still in there that I left hoping my Dad would take it but he never did. These videos make me think of life and how it gets left behind. I like your videos and the quiet comments giving us a chance to think.

The outside looks like a cabin you would find in a fairytale book! The inside sure took a beating though. I was totally surprised at the size of the basement! What a great find, bet it looked nice in it's day. Thanx

@@Astyanaz pretty sure re altering it won't work, as the wood has long suffered structural damage.....but nifty homework plus black widow....I say it's delapidated -

Again, you've found us a good one. It's so sad how neglected and abused (that paneling!) it's been. The fact that it's still standing is a testament to the craftsmanship of the people who built it. Thanks for sharing these great places with us each week. It truly is a bright spot in my week.

Beautiful little log cabin from the outside. You get inside and someone made it ugly by putting up the junky wood paneling. That place could be saved. Another excellent video kappy!

Bear in mind a real restoration means taking the logs apart, tagging them, cleaning them, repairing the bad pieces, then reassembling them with new caulking and wire. It's not just about making the cabin pretty inside like Bob Timberlake.
I know some Amish who travel to restore these old cabins, and/or take them down to sell and rebuild them on someone's property. They know what they are doing and can get it done quickly (as opposed to you and me and some amateur cabin people). Just bear in mind that cabins are very dark and gloomy inside unless you can bear to sheetrock over those lovely logs.
Except for the road, this is a gorgeous piece of property with the dogwood and forsythia.

Blown glass is what we've been told by the historical society here. It's great it's not broken. If any building old enough to have it is set for demolition or changing to modern replacement windows we have many people who seek permission to salvage the windows for this glass. It's always great to see good timbers and elements such as that.

    • @y-mefarm4249

Jestin Kase It's actually called cylinder glass. My old farm house was built in 1850, we restored the windows using period glass. Crown glass is also wavy but was replaced with cylinder glass so that stuff is very hard to find. Cylinder glass was the first sheet glass.

That was a really neat find. That little building has a million stories and several lives. I think you’re right in that someone discovered the logs and decided to renovate but quickly got overwhelmed. I think I would too. Love the signs of spring. How many old houses have forsythia and spring blooming trees and shrubs? Neat explore even if it was a bit disappointing to see paneling and makeshift bath and kitchen from 80s maybe? Then again, that’s part of the story too. Kind of looks like tobacco barn but the basement/foundation more like a house. Thanks as always. Check your Instagram dm. My husband showed me and old cemetery and lodge (?) and I shared a few pics. Happy hunting and be safe. ❤️

I loved this one it was so quirky the walls were so thick. When you were looking out the window that looks like a sidewalk you would see in any neighborhood. The outside looks like it is straight out of a storybook 👍❤

An old 1800's cabin, with a Victorian porch added at some point along with the asbestos siding...and a 1970's interior redo. Just needs to be cleaned and gutted down to the old timber, re-mortared with chinking material and it will look brand new again.

What a beautiful cabin. Someone got some money and put the charming porch on-unusual. All the windows look original. They separated the cabin up to make room for a bathroom and a kitchen. They were t necessarily added on , especially the bathroom with the original window. There would definitely have been a big fireplace. Whoever got hold of this beautiful piece of early Americana, butchered it and destroyed any evidence that it was a cabin except for the tell tale windows.

What a beautiful place. Not too much wrong , looks like it’s in half decent shape. Those columns are gorgeous, the Corinthian style is amazing.

This was definitely renovated in the 1970s because of the yellow bathroom and paneling.
